If you have Froyo then you can move some (not all - must be supported by developer) to the SD card (Only part of the app is moved some stays in internal memory)

If rooted then you can set up a partition on the card (Currently using 1Gb myself) which the phone sees as internal memory and so apps install here automatically (it's called A2SD+)

Or there is Data2SD but this is too unstable at the moment and only really in beta/RC stage of development and for more advanced Android users.

It is said that people donot use the smartphoes the way they should be. What are the advantages of a smartphone like the Desire? How should it be used to the maximum?

htc guy, 22 Jan 2011i m currently running 2.1 on gsm version of desire any bod... moreIt's easy, here's a high level summary

                1. Root phone with UnRevocked3
                2. Install Titanium BackUp
                3. Run above app and back up apps and app data
                4. Boot phone into recovery and take a nandroid backkup
                5. Install Rom Manager
                6. Using Rom Manager select a Rom to download (like Defrost)
                7. Use Rom Manager to flash new rom
                8. Use Titanium backup to restore apps and data

Warning first reboot will take a long time, could be 20 minutes or more, whilst the phone rebuilds the dalvick cache.

Steer clear of flashing radios to start with, thats where you can brick the phone if you get it wrong.

Read the threads on Androidforums to get a full step by step guide.

This phone is differenet from Nokia's etc of old and will need charging regularly.

It could also be your carriers fault that your battery life sucks due to all the extra rubbish they put onto the phone.

Once rooted and running something like DeFrost or any other CM based rom it's easy to get 2 days use out of the phone with a few CPU profiles etc.

I was replying to one of your previous posts which wrongly mentioned that AMOLED displays have a longer lifespan than SuperAMOLED displays.

                          From wikipedia :
Lifespan: The biggest technical problem for OLEDs was the limited lifetime of the organic materials.[55] In particular, blue OLEDs historically have had a lifetime of around 14,000 hours to half original brightness (five years at 8 hours a day) when used for flat-panel displays. This is lower than the typical lifetime of LCD, LED or PDP technology—each currently rated for about 60,000 hours to half brightness, depending on manufacturer and model. However, some manufacturers displays aim to increase the lifespan of OLED displays, pushing their expected life past that of LCD displays by improving light outcoupling, thus achieving the same brightness at a lower drive current.[56][57] In 2007, experimental OLEDs were created which can sustain 400 cd/m2 of luminance for over 198,000 hours for green OLEDs and 62,000 hours for blue OLEDs.[58]

Anyway 5 years is more than enough especially for a mobile phone.

& here's an article about the next gen AMOLED displays.

well, i think the HTC Desire was a great innovation though. but on the other hand, it's got the most terrible video quality I'd ever seen in the history of all classical cell phones i've ever used. Pls. Improve it.
