day one - reception was all over the place. day two - battery was gone within 8 hours @ moderate use.
third day - all sorted! reception is great - either full bars gsm or 3-4 bars HSDPA - i live in the city mind.

this phone is a serious battery drainer - mainly due to the ongoing background syncs, live wallpapers and networking.

I have turned most of this off (only kept email, news and htc sense syncing) to see what the difference in battery is like and will post another comment tomorrow.

Well enjoy this great device & hope to get some feed-back about the DHD.

BTW, how is the Froyo? is it faster than Android 2.1?

Got one on saturday...it's great. For people concerned about battery life, I am a moderate to heavy user and it lasts 1 day, doesn't really bother me though.

Only other slight issue I have is that sometimes, when on a long call it locks (sensible) but won't unlock after which pisses me off a bit but this may just be me being a spanner.

Otherwise everything about this phone is great especially the build quality, feel and speed. Nice one HTC

0v0, 21 Oct 2010The truth is obvious: DHD is much much better than Galaxy ... morethere are quite a few things better on galaxy S:
+ audio connector is on the top (not bottom as DHD)
+ sonical quality is top as usuall (HTC have few really bad sounding phones)
+ AMOLED screen is sooo-much better (DHD didn't get good batch of LCD panels like other LCD competitors)
+ 16GB internal storage is a big plus, the more the better (I know I have a card but also 4TB music collection to "fit" in a phone)
+ battery life is better on Galaxy, latest test shows Galaxy S is able to withstand 2 days (with unofficial froyo) whereas DHD only 1 (bigger screen drains more battery than efficient AMOLED)
                        + front facing camera

and I could go on and on, and still I'll probably pick DHD if it'll be fine, just because "it's the new kid".
I just don't want to be subjective and say DHD is the best phone, as it isn't. It has its faults. For some, average screen, bad battery life, stupidly positioned audio connector or too-big-weight/size are enought to skip it...

DHD is much much better than Galaxy S. The only this Galaxy S is better is it's internal memory: 8/16GB compared to DHD:1.5GB but this also doesn't make much deference since DHD has Memory Card slot up-to 32GB.

Then it comes to the buyers & his taste.

The screen on this is on the top half so when you use it landscape its awkward whiles the SGS its in the middle so its nice.

So at this time my DHD is faster than my brothers Galaxy. Galaxy with froyo 2.2 20/30% faster? let's see first then believe.

Actually according to benchmarks, Galaxy S with Froyo 2.2 should be around 20-30% faster than HTC Desire HD. Its GPU is definitely better than (also good) Andreno 205.

I've owned plastic mobile phones last 15 years, with no-problems at all. I know aluminium is the new black, aside from "cheap" feel I don't see any build faults in Galaxy S. And it is much lighter and a bit smaller.

I need to give HTC Desire HD another try or wait for GSMArena review (or any other detailing sonic quality, aside from any equilized dolby-subjective non-sense) and if it'll be significantly worse, than there is no point (for me) of picking up this phone.

50% of usage will be as PMP, so my Seinheisser IE8 can get some usage.

Both are good phones with their own plusses and minors. Yes the screen of the Galaxy is more vivid and sharper. The DHD is faster, yes this baby is f*cking fast...can not say it enough. The sound of the Galaxy is louder but the DHD sounds more pure (with Dolby enabled it has a suburb sound). The DHD camera makes better pics than the Galaxy. The build quality of the DHD is by far better than Galaxy. Accu-life time at the moment: Galaxy 2 days (phone is 3 month old), DHD more than 1 day (5 days old). Maybe battery life of the DHD can be reinforced after a few recharges. I have safer feelings with a aluminium DHD in my pocket than a plastic Galaxy.

I am undecided which one to pick. I played with the Desire HD yesterday but I was dissapointed with the screen.

Now I'm thinking about taking Samsung Galaxy S, I don't mind it's "plasticky", it has better performance, (fixed) Android 2.2 soon and its screen is much much better. Also, audio quality of Galaxy S can't be matched by current phones, and it is a big plus for me.

Any reason why to pick HTC Desire HD instead?
