Alui, 29 Sep 2010So I have to answer a lot of questions. Here are some answe... moreNot sure where you're getting your information from, but the HTC Desire HD has a newer processor which is currently not in any of the phones out right now. (cause you were comparing it to the current HTC Desire)

The 1GHZ processor is newly designed and is suppose to use up to 30% less battery than the previous generation Snapdragon processors (Desire, Nexus One, Evo, HD2).

Also for the people saying it's heavy. It's heavy because it's made out of aluminum casing. which makes the phone a much much more solid feel.

I have the Galaxy S and let me tell you, it feels very cheap and plastic in hand, i feel like it will break in my hand.

I will switch my Galaxy S for the HTC Desire Z (G2 for me) and if the Desire HD comes to t-mobile, i will get that i instead.

Both the Desire HD and Desire Z have new processors which are suppose to use less battery and be more powerful.

Desire HD has poor battery life, what a disapointment! I mean if you are going to improve the specs from desire and make the screen bigger, we expect the battery to also improve you know...

please will all you people hyping up the galaxy s over desire stop talking sh*t. The phone lags with even normal things like clicking onto messages, the only advantages it has is the hd recording(even with htc desire froyo update) still better on galaxy S, and screen resolution is superior to desire.
Desire is much quicker, better touchscreen, better interface(galaxy just ripped off iphone which kinda defeats object of android)......End of!!!

              thank you

the Desire HD also has wifi N protocol so why do you qoute this as a positive for the SGS?

Alui, 29 Sep 2010So I have to answer a lot of questions. Here are some answe... moreOkay, I see what you mean.

But you forgot to say that
for people who want a nice big screen
for people who prefer correct colours over oversaturation
for people who like a heavier phone because it feels sturdier

the Desire HD beats the SGS hands down ;-) because all your negatives about the Desire HD, are actually positives for me :-D

                      and then the other points:
-battery life: WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP QOUTING THIS. THE PHONE IS NOT OUT YET, IMPOSSIBLE TO JUDGE BATTERY LIFE ,PERIOD!!
-the front facing camera okay, if you use it, this is definitely a + for the SGS. But if you don't its a + for the Desire HD because you don't want to pay for something you don't use do you?
-and please get your facts straight. The htc Desire HD's battery IS user replaceable

please remember I do agree with you that the SGS beats the Desire HD hands down BUT DO NOT FORGET TO MENTION THAT THIS IS ACCORDING TO YOUR LIKES AND YOUR NEEDS IN A CELL PHONE

When I am the referee, the Desire HD beats the SGS hands down, impossible to argue with that can you?

Alui, 29 Sep 2010I think I would prefer the normal desire to this, if I woul... moreSo I have to answer a lot of questions. Here are some answers:
SGS is a bit better than the Desire because it has WiFi 802.11 n, SAmoled screen, front camera (I do use it).
When SGS will have Froyo, it will beat the Desire hands down(when comparing features), because the Desire will not have any advantage over the SGS.
Now, why SGS with Froyo will beat hands down the Desire HD? Because the HD has two advantages, the bigger screen, which I do not consider it very important, see the comparison between the SGS and the 3.7 inch Desire(also I mention that the 3.5 inch screen of the iphone is enough), and the 8 MPix camera, but I still think that the 5Mpix camera of the SGS is all you may need.
The SGS will have the following advantages over the Desire HD:
                            -Super Amoled
                            -removable battery
                            -longer battery life
                            -front camera
                            -50g lighter.
Anyways, as I said HD is a good phone, but because the problems with the battery life (same as in the normal Desire, which causes a lot of complaints from Desire users).
I would hate to carry the charger with me.

It's strange how people want to be spoonfed opinions for them to take on as their own.

Best thing to do is read a full review on a phone to find a detailed list of good/bad points about it, and also if possible, to go into mobile phone stores and ask to see a handset in action. The employees obviously wouldn't give an unbiased opinion regarding it, but you can have a play around and make your own mind up.

Random, 29 Sep 2010Matt, I admire the sensible approach but no matter how many... moreglad to see that there are still some reasonable people around here. Spending some time here, but especially the last few months on the N8's page made me extremely frustrated. Finally now I've stopped trying to argue with bashers, whereas I formerly made it my life's mission to defend the N8 (ok little exaggeration:-))

it's all useless to bash but what I can do is try to make reasonable people out of some bashers, I know it's possible... I'm not doing it for the good of the world. Like Damon Albarn would say, "it gives me an enourmous sense of well being" :-D and I really want to kick some life into this page for when I'm getting bored again :-D

[deleted post]Difficult to say and I really do not want to say that one phone is better than the other. So I'm afraid you will not get a decent answer out of me, only some vague mostly objective opinions which only make it harder for people to chose their phone. So if you want someone to tell you which phone to buy, don't read on.

When you're buying a phone, don't just go around asking everyone which phone is the best, everyone will say theirs is. First make up your own mind about what you want in a phone and then go looking for user experience (if available). For example, if you say that taking pictures with your cell phone is really important then I say, go for the N8. On the other hand if you say that making movies in dark loud party's is very important, then go for the Desire HD since the N8 doesn't have a LED light. And there are 1000s more examples available.

You see, everything that makes a phone good, can be turned around and make the phone bad, just because of what people want and therefore it is always impossible to tell complete strangers which phone is the best.

When I was in Africa working with dredging vessels the Nokia 5500 was the best phone in the world for me.
Now that I'm sitting behind a desk most of the day, the HTC Desire HD is the best phone in the world for me.

I'm really sorry I cannot answer your question, but the last thing I want in the world is to become a brand basher
(even though I work on a Macbook Pro and own an iPhone I have my troubles not doing it with Apple, not because of the quality of their products, but because of their continues friendly masked deception, and their exorbitant prices for computers)

There'll still be ridiculous comments posted all over here.

And for anybody criticising the 4.3" screen size as being too big.....keep in mind that the mobile phone market has different segments. You get different users with different requirements/taste and mobile phone manufacturers produce phones to cater for a particular segment.

This is clearly aimed at the "bigger is better" crowd, and I'm sure there are enough people in the market who would buy a phone with a 4.3" screen for HTC to consider it a good move to produce something with a screen that big.

For the ones that complain that 4.3" is too big........are you not satisfied that HTC have produce the Desire? The HTC Desire is the phone that they have produced for you, not the Desire HD.
