Rajesh, 05 May 2011No .. Video calling is not straight forward .. it is not si... moreYou can do video call on 3G using Desire S, bub.
Just request for "operator settings" for MMS and video calls from your local carrier/telecom. You cannot do video call over 3G UNLESS your phone is configured FIRST by the carrier to make this type of service.
In some telecoms, the configuration is automatic, and will be done when you insert the sim. However, in most carriers, you have to call the customer service and let them send you the settings for video call.
Hope this helps.

But i'm more worried about the upgrade problem- will this get constant updates from HTC? The previous desire got them because that was their flagship phone at the time of its release. Now the desire S is just another medium high phone in their lineup. Will they provide android updates, event though that they have confirmed that this will not get the sense 3.0 found on the Sensation? If that is true then should i save up some more and get a dual core android (optimus 2x, SGS2 or the Atrix)? Please help me!!!!

ronaldo, 03 May 2011hey i am about to get rid of my nokia n97 i am wonder which... moreYeah, I am upgrading too. I got a Galaxy Ace, and its a fine excellent piece of work, however, it has only about 38mb of internal memory for apps (!!) which I overlooked somehow when I bought the phone. But aside from this flaw, the Ace is a superbly built and functioning phone. Kinda like a preview of what SGS 2 will be like...
I would go for Desire S.. the sales lady in many malls I went to, always say the same thing: Incredible S has very little advantage over the Desire S, except for size. They say the Incredible S's camera is worse, and the OS is older (2.2) than the Desire S. And the price difference is little too -- about $55 more for the Incredible S.
And the salespeople also are saying that when it comes to features, Desire S beats the iphone 4. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S which lags when you open the apps, Desire S is zippy and can RUN ALL the widgets without slowing down. Iphone 4 is fast, but thats just because it DOES NOT USE WIDGETS. What is so amazing about Desire S, is that it EQUALS the speed of iphone 4, WHILE running tons of widgets in the background... jUST AWESOME, REALLY!
Just to check if the sales guys are taking me for a ride, I test-drived the Desire S three times, in three different stores. THEY WERE RIGHT -- The desire S is really fast. Not blazing fast, but quick as it should be. No waiting, no lags, no stuttering.
I was actually thinking of either buying NEO or SGS 2, but seeing that Neo is buried with the Japan tsunami until July, and SGS has a sky-high price tag of $800 (no accessories except charger and headphones), I was looking for a phone with a better deal. And for now, this is IT -- HTC Desire S.
Actually, the iPhone 4's prices are dropping faster than flies sprayed with Baygon, but if you consider that iphone 5 is arriving in September then it's still not a good option. Besides, there are NOW tons of phones which can overtake iphone 4, in both specs and speed, and still cost less than iphone 4 :P
I recommend it -- get htc Desire S. Good choice, for its price ;)

AnonD-8312, 12 May 2011Can the back cover be changed? I thought this phone had an ... moreForget the Galaxy S. It is and will be discontinued, per arrival of the SGS 2, and shortage of amoleds nowadays.
As for Neo, check the website: it has 1GB internal memory, so I guess you can have all the 380 Mb for apps, while the rest, 620mb, is for running the system. Not bad, actually, since until now, I have about 50-70 apps in my SD card, and I still dont reach 1 gb yet despite all those 15mb live wallpapers, and 18mb games. You can pack tons of apps on 380 mb, and the others you can pack into the SD card of Neo.
But my husband and I are both planning to buy the Desire S, this July or August... just waiting for the price to settle down and freebies come in ;)

Anonymous, 13 May 2011I checked RAM by Android system info app, it just 611 MB in... moreBecause you just got that information off the phone it is already using some RAM to run the OS. There is always a certain amount of RAM dedicated to the system for basic functions on the phone! So whatever the phone tells you it has is just what is available i.e. not in use.

Signal problems over here. My area is already pretty poor with signal but the old Desire manages up to 2 bars when am in the house, With Desire S I need to step out side to make calls, there's always an X above the signal level. Signal Boost(UMA) is a feature available but to get it, your phone needs to be Orange branded. WTF! Orange!!! Am on Orange and am paying just as much as the others who have bought branded versions.
