"boot loader" and the only way back out would be to take out the battery.
if you held both volume keys down. and keep them down when you powered on the phone it would go to a gray screen with blue writing. (with instructions on how to hard rest)

The specs posted aren't exactly accurate. This may be the case with the O2 version of this phone but the soon to be released T-mobile edition has 1gb ROM and 576mb RAM according to HTC's website. Here's the link for those who are interested. http://www.htc.com/us/products/t-mobile-hd2#tech-specs

Syrus, 11 Mar 2010Hooray Anthony....finally installed rom 1.66 on my phone. T... moreFirst thing you should know. Pressing that reset by the battery is considered a soft rest and should NEVER be used unless your phone is frozen. (That is like yanking the cord out of your pc when you are doing work)
The proper thing to do after you install a program, is to shot down and start back.
That will allow settings to be saved in the registry.
A hard rest is when you…
                      Power off the phone.
Hold the volume down & up key and press the power on (still holding the volume down & UP)
It is recommended that you do that at lest ones after a ROM flash to get rid of any old drivers that may be hanging around from the old ROM.
You don’t need to clean the SD if you don’t want to. Just install the programs again in the same place. The programs that you had on the card don’t show as being installed because you have a new registry. But if you want to start clean. Use the “Format SD Card” utility that is in the “tools” folder in the start menu.

Programs that are a MUST HAVE for this phone in order of importance.
                      “.net 3.5 cf redistributed”
“BsB Tweaks 1.6” (can be installed on the SD)
                      “Data Controller”
                      “ChangeScreen”
“Touch X Longpress Sendkey Alt tab”

Note: just because you put the installation on the SD does not mean that is where it will install. By default it will still install to internal memory unless you pick the card when it ask during the installation.

Dr.Jad Shehadi, 11 Mar 2010Basicaly HD2 is a great phone, but the problem i'm eventual... moreThe only way is to have a second battery.. I have two (one as backup for a busy days work if needed). I purchased two 1500mAh batteries for only $13.98 for both ($7 each).. They work great for me... I barely use the second one on a daily basis... My HD2 lasts a full day with no problems (30% left at end of day)....That's with some calls, emails, texts, movie watching, some surfing w/Wifi, and music playing.... HTC is releasing an extended battery for the HD2 (cost around 40-50 dollars). I don't like the extended battery, because it add bulk to the HD2, and you will need another case for the HD2 w/th ext battery..... The batteries I have adds no BULK at all. Use same battery comparment......I know people was saying they wanted a 1500mAh battery.. I found one... Just look on ebay for do google search.........

Take the battery out and put it back in with the phone still plugged in.
Try not to touch any of the keys when you putting the battery back in.
Maybe that would get it to stay off with the phone still plugged in.
