vish, 02 Mar 2010well the issue is that there arent too many android phones ... moreIt just makes it easier to walk away from HTC and MS and try other OS's and phones.... The HD2 was my first HTC phone. They didn't show loyalty to me so why should I stick around?????

vish, 02 Mar 2010well the issue is that there arent too many android phones ... moreI want buy for another couple of years (2012)... Unless some jaw breaking spec phone comes out before then.. That has always been my timeline to buy another phone. I just wanted WM7 to play around with until my next phone whatever OS it will be. I've had WM phones since I came to the platform. I just think it's time to try other OS's that's out there.... I'm sure by then Andriod will have nice spec phones as well as WM. But I just think it's time for something new (OS)... I will keep my HD2 for business purpose... As I said before. The news from MS and HTC was disappointing, but not devistating to me... As I was thinking of trying a new OS anyway........

so i am going to use a dext for a while till a snapdragon based qwerty comes out .. about the SE i am not sure about the internal memory ... internal memory , processor and keypad are important for me if switch to an android
or else next thing i will hear is that flash 10.1 is not supported on android phones with lesser processing speed.
so will use the dext as a buffer and then switch to the enterrprise version of google nexus which i hope will have all what i need .
i am getting a good price for a hd2 now.. even if i sell it now and want it later i can get it much cheaper 1-2 months down the line ..

vish , 02 Mar 2010ive already decided to sell the phone . i mean even if this... moreI'm not going to sell my HD2.. I like it. Gives me total customization... I'm just going to look at other OS when I purchase my next phone..... I mean I want to see what Andriod phones are coming and other OS phones.... Truth be told I was looking at the SE X10, but will wait to see what's coming. I like Sony.. I have a AR790HD laptop from Sony and love it.... I'm not tied to any company... I look for what fits my needs... The HD2 fits my needs right now. But will look to update down the road......

who will buy the hd2 then ??? we will all want those winmo7 phones with better specs ...i was thnking of getting the trophy in may with its practical design but will stay off winmo for a while till microsft sorts things out ...
i've decided to move on to a qwerty android like the moto dext for a while and see .. but sadly my hd2 is on ebay for sale now ..

Will take a closer look at other OS (Android, Baja, etc) for my next phone upgrade.. Hardware will play a role in the upgrade, as well as OS features and update ability going forward. Will see what's out there now, and what's on the horizon (future).... This news makes my decision alot easier.... Enough said about that.. Looking to the future devices that's coming....

Hi all....im from nigeria..just got my htc hd2 2 days ago..and guess what..i just hacked my phone..HSPL...my ROM is 1.43 from O2, presently downloading the 1.66 ROM, and the old 1.43 from xda....thanks to help from Antony...being following the posts here since last month..in preparation for my phone

don't suffer your self with that old ROM.
you will get better performance from 1.66
I know because my phone is not provider branded but It was from the first batch back in November, so it came with the unlocked 1.43 UK ROM. i upgraded to 1.48 when that came out and upgraded again when 1.66 came out. between there I have also used cook ROM's but kept coming back to 1.66
You will learn more things here and on XDA to improve your phone even more, so why hold on to a t-mobile ROM when they are no help to you at all?
You are holding on to problems to keep a warranty that should fix problems but It's not. And giving up fixing the problem your self.
that's like getting a rash from a girlfriend. And your Ex-girlfriend is a Dr. and will get rid of the rash for free but you are afraid to do it because if you girlfriend finds out you went by your Ex she will get mad with you.
So what do you do?
Keep the rash or see about it and hope your girlfriend never finds out you went by your Ex who is a Dr?
I say a rash is not a good thing to keep. lol

I can only download if the update says United Kingdom.. But someone listed another S/N that allows me to get the update that comes from HTC... I had to jail break my phone first. Which was the best thing I did. Now I can load any ROM I want (HTC or Cooked ROM's)....

I will look for Xda and others to cook a WM7 ROM for the HD2.. Also I will test out Spb Shell v5 when it's released. Saw it running on the HD2, and it looked good...

I know U would have to buy a new phone to take advantage of WM7, but I just wanted to get an update to play around with WM7 before or if I update... I agree that WM7 is not that great as well.. It looks plain to me right now. The UI can change before it's released... When WM7 was first shown, I new I wasn't updating, because of the lock down of the UI... Like U the only thing to make me update my phone is better hardware that will come out.. I'm looking for faster speeds, TV out to play HD content, and HD viewing and recording... When that phone comes out I'm on it, not matter what UI (Android, WM, etc). At this point I'm no longer tied to one UI or OS....

I did call Htc and they said pretty much what you did, they won't provide a 1.66 update and said I should speak to t-mobile and ask them, I did and they told me to contact htc. as they were not doing the 1,66 update. no joy from either of them! they only way to get a 1.66 update is to hack the phone. many thnks anthony! :o)

If Microsoft to this date can’t stop OEM’s from skinning there desktop OS (windows 7). how they really think they will stop the skinning of the Mobile OS by 3ed party software developers?

And by the time it is ready the HD2 will be so old and outdated that it would not matter if it gets the update or not. The spec of this phone is good now but by Jan 2011 it would be considered average and the eye candy made then is what every one will be wanting anyway. I was shore I was going to keep my HD for a minimum of 3years. But when sense UI came out and I saw how nice it was and how slow it was on the HD. I sold the HD after having it for about 11 months. It would not surprise me if a 2Ghz CPU chip came out before the end of the year and AMOLED screens drop in price. Making the HD2 not so hot anymore. What I’ve seen of 7 so far does not impress me enough to want to buy a new phone. But if there is a major hardware announcement that makes the HD2 look like a HTC touch. That would do the trick for me and I will sell my HD2 in a hart beat.

Here's info from a MS official about WM7. Please give me a break. Who wants a standard UI??
"Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s regional mobile communications business, confirmed to APC that interfacelifts such as HTC’s Sense and Samsung’s TouchWiz “will not be permitted” on Windows Phone 7 devices".
“When you have a Windows Phone 7 Series handset from HTC or Samsung or anyone else, the user interface is going to look exactly alike, even down to the level of the soft (QWERTY) keypad – the experience will be exactly the same” Kwan says.
“We used to believe that Microsoft was a platform provider, so we’d provide the OS and then the OEM would innovate around that. But our learning is that the end-users want to have an experience that is consistent. So we are taking a greater ownership (of the platform) and there will be less surface area for other UI designs because the more you have of these, the more you have fragmentation.”
Kwan admitted that the initial reaction from Microsoft’s OEM partners was less than positive. “It wasn’t easy. To be very candid, in the early days when we had that conversation it was tough because were were changing the way we worked with them.”
“But at the end of the day their competition is Apple and their business model is to make money from the hardware. And the more costs you can take away from them, the less they need to spend bringing their phones to market” Kwan explains.
“So our proposition is that if we’re able to take away a lot of the development work and OEMs have less costs to write code, from their standpoint the faster they can bring their phone to market the better. And they can still innovate and give customers a good experience, and that’s all that matters.”
But with Microsoft mandating that OEMs can’t skin the Windows Phone 7 UI – codenamed ‘Metro’, after the intuitive maps and navigation devices employed by subway lines and metro systems around the world – then where does this ‘innovation’ come into play?
Tony Wilkinson, business operations director with Microsoft Australia, told APC that software-based customisations would occur around the ‘live tiles’ on Windows Phone 7’s home screen as well as hubs based around aggregating online services.
“Instead of replacing our UI, OEMs will use aspects of the UI to create their own differentiation. They can create their own live tiles, they can have their own hubs, they can have content.”
From a hardware perspective Wilkinson says that “instead of the innovation being that your screen is higher resolution, you might bring to market a particularly thin or stylish device, or one with a good keyboard, so it’s a higher level of innovation.”

Are (start... moreThat was me who posted.. I agree that HTC can remap the buttons if they wish. I think it's a money thing. Think about it? I think HTC and Microsoft knew when the HD2 was released that it wouldn't get the update. These companies work hand in hand together. The HD2 sales helped HTC, and not providing a WM7 update helps MS. Who would buy the new WM7 phones if the HD2 was to get the update? I wouldn't.. I know Xda or others will cook up a ROM, but they can be buggie... If the news is true, it would be disappointing to say the least. But not heart broken. I still like the HD2 and what it brings to the table.. I just think they knew when they released the HD2 it wouldn't get the official update, but HTC put in good hardware for developers to make a WM7 ROM for the HD2... I know how companies work together when they release products. My company does the same thing. We know well in advance what products will still work with new released product, and which ones will not.... No company will come out and say "don't buy this because it may not work the next product release".. It's bad for business. The only down side is that you will loose some previous customers that bought the previous released item, who's mad that the new product doesn't work with the previous product.

Are (start, back, and search) so there is nothing saying a phone can’t have dedicated answer, hang-up and volume keys
If HTC want, they can map search to the home key and the HD2 already have the start and back key.
