Mark, 13 Dec 2009Bad news - my problem with the audio manager has resurfaced... morechanging sim will not help.
the player in sense UI is not windows media player. if you go in multimedia in startup, you will see windows media player there.
how much songs do you have loaded so I can see if I get the same problem?
give me a list of software you installed so I can see if one of them I causing the problem. give me a list of tweaks you did so I can see if one of them is causing the problem.

reply for the enthusiast reader of PC World, m8 you have to understand that magazines , newspapers and sites live from advertising, for all the reviews ,tops and products presentations they have contracts on witch they receive large amounts of money, no1 makes good reviews for free, the internet its developed becouse of the advertising, to realy make a top of the bests phone you have to take the matters in your own hands, search the specif. of the phone, compare them, search infos/data of forums and blogs where normal people like us posts their experience with the product they use, not some hy payed influenced employers.
some of you are still young, do not get influenced by others, you are smart so use that.

Top 10 Cell Phones PC World

          Nov 13, 2009 11:30 am

          1. Motorola Droid
          Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The first Android 2.0 phone impresses with a strong suite of Web features and a stunning 3.7-inch display, but some users might have trouble with the shallow keyboard.

          2. Apple iPhone 3GS
          Keyboard: No
Bottom Line: Performance enhancements distinguish the otherwise evolutionary step-up iPhone 3GS from its previous iterations.

          3. Motorola Cliq
Bottom Line: The beautifully designed Motorola Cliq is a social butterfly’s dream phone, but others may find the MotoBlur user interface overwhelming.

          4. Research in Motion BlackBerry Bold 9700
Bottom Line: The best BlackBerry available, the Bold 9700 packs a multitude of features into a sophisticated, slimmed-down design.

          5. T-Mobile myTouch 3G
          Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The T-Mobile myTouch 3G is a big improvement from its predecessor, but the physical keyboard is sorely missed.

          6. Palm Pre
          Form Factor: Candy bar
Bottom Line: The Pre's webOS software is touch-friendly and fun, but the cramped QWERTY keyboard detracts from the phone's usability.

          7. Samsung Behold II
          Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: With a gorgeous AMOLED display and an excellent camera, the pricey Samsung Behold II will appeal to multimedia junkies with deep pockets.

          8. Research in Motion BlackBerry Tour 9630
          Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: The BlackBerry Tour entices with an ergonomic keyboard and gorgeous display, but the omission of Wi-Fi disappoints.

          9. HTC Droid Eris
          Keyboard: Yes
Bottom Line: If you can live without a hardware keyboard, the HTC Droid Eris is an affordable and feature-packed alternative to the Motorola Droid.

          10. HTC Hero
          MegaPixels: 5MP
Bottom Line: The HTC Hero marks a giant step in innovation of the Android platform, but it isn't without flaws

Anthony, 13 Dec 2009Thanks about the info about the file name thing, i did not ... moreBad news - my problem with the audio manager has resurfaced once again, despite my removing symbols from my MP3 file names. Each time I open the HTC music player tab it crashes and ends up sending an error report to Microsoft (not that I ever receive any feedback as a result...hey-ho)
I've heard that getting an updated sim card has helped other WinMo phone users avoid problems with their handsets, and I think my sim card is around 4-5 years old. Time for a change of sim, or is that unlikely to help with this music player failure?
Alternatively, should I delete the HTC music player tab and try and install another (free?) music player - as I'm not keen on using Windows Media Player as my default program.
            Any suggestions?

ian, 13 Dec 2009im a mac user & iphone too but got interested with this dev... moreif you don't have a PC and only a mac its best you stay with the iPhone.
ActiveSync does not work on a mac, sync of music is done with "windows media player" (not that I use that way to get music/video on anyway. I use disk drive mode) so the only way you would have to get files like music, videos, and documents to/from the phone is by putting it in disk drive mode. (but you can't sync "to do list", calendars, contacts, e-mail that is already saved on your mac, itunes play list with the phone in disk drive mode.) you won't be able to use the phone as a modem for your mac. and if you don't or can't use "h o t m a I L" you will not be able to sync with "myphone" online.
there are other sync program out to make windows mobile sync with mac but I don't know how good they are.
so to spend all that money and only be able to use it in disk drive mode to copy and past stuff to your mac, I don't think is a good way to spend your money.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Can’t answer that just like that... no one even knows what you want to use the phone to do?
Or how comfortable you are using technology?
Or do you own a PC or a MAC?
When you answer all 3 then i could say if to go with this or a iphone 3Gs

Didn’t have any music with odd naming on my phone. What made you fix the file names and see it was that cursing the problem?
That will not work because the player can read wma files so it will still see your ring tones.
I know you didn’t want to do this but you are going to have to for now......
When on the player, go in the “Library”
                                  Pick the “playlists” tab
                                  Create a new playlist
                                  Pick you new playlist
                                  Pick add songs
Go to the “Select songs” tab
                                  Tap on “menu”
                                  Tap on “select all”
Then go through the list and uncheck the ones you don’t want to play
                                  Tap “Done”
                                  Tap “back”
Then tap the playlist you just made
Tap any song in that list, so the list will load in “now playing”
And wa-la! all your songs without the ring tones. And as you add music to the phone you can just go in and edit that list you made.
Don’t make the playlist on your PC and upload it to the phone because a list made that way can’t be edited on the phone, Just played.

Have now sorted the problem on my HTC music player, just had to check the file names of my mp3s and remove any unusual symbols (ie accents or mathematical characters from any file names - such as E=MC2, had to remove the = sign) and it is finally working fine!!
Only problem is that it's still picking up my ringtone files even though they are stored in AAC format in the C/Windows/Rings folder. I think I'll have to change my ringtones to WMA files, like the default ones on the phone... hey-ho!
