Its a failure phone from start...HTC is making the same mistake as Samsung by removing the 4 way controller button wich is so important in games playing. Without this controller no game will work for you! Bad move HTC ! Whats the point on having a WM device if not enjoying the 3rd party applications ? I am a games developer by the way. You guys get more and more abolutely clueless and funny every day...
1. The human eyes and brain cannot and will NEVER be able to tell the difference between 64k colors or 16.8m colors!
2. Who cares about on-board storage, the iPhone has 8/16GB on board and it can NEVER be changed, the HTC comes with an SD card slot, so you can put in up to 32GB (current biggest card, bigger ones coming) and upgrade when needed.
3. The flash story is bit of a letdown I agree, but if you want the best in photography, get a dedicated camera.
4. They do not use cheap plastics on these phones. They're actually pretty rugged.
5. Lastly, for those of you touting the Xperia X1, that is *ALSO* an HTC phone just sold under a different name through another supplier. So at the moment, HTC's closest competition, is themselves...

And android is so lame. who care about open source development you can almost do that on the iphone already.
what the hell do you think they are going to develop? the platform is only as good as its best app and I guarantee you problems with running apps without lag since every phone is different. android=fail.

Wow an HD screen is almost as much of a gimmick as a phone that has a 4 megapixel camera. If you want HD watch a tv if you want lots of megapixels get a CAMERA. This phone is nothing special. nothing innovative.

This phone rocks, the only problem it doesn't run Android. This phone would have been the prefect G1, surely would have sold a million in the first day.

-never complete functions and features in one phone
-many variations in a short period of time
-eccentric designs as always
-Chinese standard
- may not care about flash for camera
- may not care about auto or fixed focus camera
- may not care about the battery (1500 mAH should be good)
- may not care about built-in storage ( 8 or 16GB)
- always Chinese low grade shinning plastic built
- may not care about proper support
Unfortunately for us, there is no real competition to them yet...So keep buying HTC..
If Samsung is coming up then, they gonna get screwed....like hell... Think of Omnia, almost kick HTC's ass... well, future Samsung's wm devices will definitely ruin HTC...

Would buy this if it came with QWERTY. I was expecting HTC to produce a phone just like this with the QWERTY but that wont come maybe. I am not buying the HTC G1 either, it is weak for my use.

Many people like reliability of Toyota than problematic Bmw for their money difference.
As for s.a.r value my friend 2 is magic number as you say, 1.6 in Usa but the best as the people who put those limits say is under 0.89.
And 0.39 is 3 and a half times less than 1.31 and because we are talking about radiation and possibilities you'd better consider first which is better for your health. Because you consider your health as a toy, well i don't and i put together all the pieces of the puzzle before i say this and only this. Health and concideration of it is very important.

i'd like to add my opinions here too :)...
iphone: the best quality and design i ve ever seen on a phone, the best music experience ever. not only the quality and design of the hardware but also the software.. everything is crystal clear from h/w to s/w and also the software is flawless compared to other phones.. the cons of iphone is that there is no freedom... so nearly all programs that can be downloaded are freewares and most of them are useless. i guess in the near future there will be much more apps for iphone (like in wm) and they are going to be hacked (like in wm :)) and finally everyone will start using this phone :D
htc phones: they look good, always have the most tempting features compared to other pda brands, u can find any type of software (pay for them or hack 'em), u can always download and install custom roms developed by others but on the other hand they are not reliable... after using sometime u can have hardware (mechanical) problems, battery always bad, wm on htc gets slower and slower day by day...
XPERIA X1: a very interesting phone, the first brand phone that can really compete with HTC specifications! (maybe omnia too but its resolution is very very bad). other question comes in mind is how could sony eriksson rely on wm?! maybe they have resolved the problems HTC always had. maybe it is the dream phone :D i rely on sony eriksson brand, anytime... so i expect no mechanical problems, and very little to no wm problems, we ll see...
bottom line
iphone: a different race (my wife uses it :P)...
htc hd: i hate u, u always make me buy your phones damn it! and i turned out to be a computer freak cause of u!
xperia x1: here comes a new "brand" challenger to htc! at last!

Not too many instances where people can tell the difference. 1. in gradient photos 2. dark area with a light source in movies are the only time where I can tell the different. Feel free to input more scenario. I also agree with many people that I hate it without the flash light. It is very useful to pick up dog poop when I walk my dogs at night. I don't have to carry an extra light. I already have my handful with 2 dogs. Considering 16GB memory only cost $50 on eBay and the price will drop like the 4GB ($50 a year ago). TouchFLo is what brings HTC over others PDA phone. In Diamond case, it kicks ass with the newer rom. It can be a problem with the computer illiterate. As they don't know how to upgrade so they keep on complaining. It is HTC's fault for not releasing a speedy rom in the first place. As for the s.a.r. issue, 2 is the magic number. As long as it's within the safety range, I have no problem with it. It's like ozone, too much will damage your health. Better price? HTC already establish its name in the PDA world, they don't have to lower its price to dirt. Ever seen anyone who prefer Toyota over BMW? CK over Louis Vuitton? Etc...

This phone is not so awesome. It CANNOT write 640*480 video like other phones and with 5MP camera it SHOULD be capable of that, it has not got xenon flash in fact it HASN'T GOT EVEN FLASH!, it has not even 4 or 8 or 16 GB internal memory like other phones, it has the same not well functionable not very user friendly TouchFLO system of diamond and pro and the same processor with them slower than other phones and 1.3 s.a.r value which all can understand how much your head gets fried while for example omnia has only 0.39 for use at head. Only nice screen has. And other phones in better price also.

this phone is awesome!!! screw 65k and 16m because as some of the other comments say human eyes cannot tell the difference between 60k and 260k. you should be looking at the resolution (number of pixels) first then the color. that is why this is called "htc touch hd" not "htc touch rainbow" or something like that. So everyone stop comparing it to iPhone's 16m cause i'm sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the colors of this phone and the iPhone. try naming 65k colors. if you can't over the top of your head than stop complaining about the color.
on the other hand, i think this phone is excellent and stylish. my only issue is the camera not having a flash but everything else, except maybe the price, is alright with me.
sorry about my outburst at the start. i hope this opinion isn't deleted as i was not "bashing" this brand. i was just letting people know what i felt so if you don't agree, feel free to reply back and take a long walk on a short pier!!! (hopefully you can't swim) lolololol!!!

People, think a little... yes the phone has miniscule on-board memory.... but it has an SDHC card slot... so it can take up to a 32GB memory card. Can apple do that... uhhhh NO!

The only really sad thing about this otherwise great toy: it has 0,2 GB! Not the 8 or 16 GB of internal memory that we asume it should have. Maybe HTC HD II will offer a fix for this mayor problem
