I have been having interesting discussions with a certain 4pKi/4pJ$. One fact is clear: the battery technology to adequately power a sub 3 inch VGA screen is available but companies have not utilised it. When I state adequately power I am talking about a day's work thereby necessitating daily charging. It is incredible that 4pJ$ along with others on this site are hostile toward daily charging when we are talking of a feature packed power sapping device! Most of us are not forest or cave dwellers: electricity is available. Power sources can be found in kinetic chargers, dynamic solar energy, car chargers and indoor sockets. Remember that TyTN II is only a small mobile device. The battery is not supposed to labour forever. Prolonged intensive use of the device whether with QVGA or VGA res is bound to drain the battery quickly.
The HP iPAQ 910c with a capacity of 1840mAh proves that you can place high capacity batteries in small devices. It also proves that a higher rated battery will not necessarily make the device heavier than others with similar form factors. Look iPAQ 910c weighs only 146g which is less than Nokia's E61i and i-mate's JAMA 201 although the latter two have less battery capacities. JAMA 201 has only 1100mAh and yet at 152g is still heavier than the iPAQ. So 4pJ$'s assertion that it is fact that more battery capacity always means more weight is NOT true. It all depends on the skill of the manufacturer. Therefore TyTN II coupled with a 1840mAh battery may even weigh less than it does presently!
On the topic of weight, there are a thousand ways to carry a 200g phone: trouser pocket, jacket pocket, small bag with shoulder strap, small case strapped to one's belt etc. The assumption that everyone wears tight trousers and carry their phone in the trouser pockets is not true.
Technology evolves and improves by manufacturers selling products to consumers who now use the products. Feedback of their experiences now pinpoints weaknesses that can be improved upon. The internal combustion engine as seen in the motor car was improved by consumers buying the cars and through empirical use, any faults were highlighted. The idea that we should wait till battery technology improves is ridiculous. Technology is already adequate to run sub 3 inch VGA screens. What is needed is consumer involvement so that smooth operation can be optimised. I am definitely going to buy one of the forthcoming slide-out QWERTY, VGA devices in addition to TyTN II. Why? Because it satisfies my need. I deal alot with graphs, tables and charts, so clarity is important to me. I am not going to be cheated out of a vivid VGA encounter because of someone's bias propaganda attempting to make everyone shun devices with sub 3 inch VGA screens. I have the faith that manufacturers would not be irresponsible to make a device that dies after one hour's use. So let us buy these devices, enjoy them, test them, discuss them improve them but certainly not ignore them like 4pJ$ is cynically suggesting. The much respected phone arena.com in their professional review stated that the screen of TyTN II really should be VGA res in these contemporary times. That is a profound statement.

You can download one map for free. You have to pay for additional maps.

        HTC TYTYN II
I have had this for approximately 3 weeks, and have had many HTC devices before. This is quite simply amazing! Don't think about it, just get one, you'll love it!

TyTN II-better than the n95,w960 and lg for web browsing. To even compare an alpha numeric input method model in this area is amusing! The TyTN II coupled with netfront or opera is simply a far better web browsing experience.TyTN II has A2DP so no problem here, just don't expect to hear quality through the loudspeaker but who in their right mind wants to use their phone as a gettoblaster!!..yeah kids. Finally watching movies, well tytn II wins here as well, mainly due to the 3rd party software that will enable you to view films in almost any format .note the other models you mentioned cannot play the very popular .wmv

Al You spend a considerable amount of money on a device yet you are unwilling to spend a few hours learning WM6/kaiser!If that's your attitude then WM is not for you.

                    blank screen during the call.
                    too heavy.
poor camera, or in other words they could have done better.
does not support other language extension for web browsing yet(windows 6.0 issue not the device isssue).
mine for some reason did not come with touch flo.
for the above reasons I sent it back after 3 weeks. I will wait for the HP and Eten devices. they are thinner and lighter.

you get one city map for free to test tomtom functionality.
after testing you may decide to get it (and buy more maps) or not...

HTC TYTN II, 2 Things - 1). My application disk did not include TomTom Navigator 6 (taster edition), where can one get a free download off the internet? 2). The phone keypad disappears after 30 seconds into a phone call. This is absolutely frustrating because you can't manage voice mail commands. There is a register solution available but how does a lay-person get this to work (step by step)?

Re: TomTom on TyTN II, the verison that comes with the phone allows you to download one city map from Europe or the US for free. Additonal maps need to be purchase.

As for World Card, it comes pre-installed on the phone and does eveything I need it to. No idea if it a "lite" version of the software or not.

Look compare a n80 with n95-n80's screen is better because it has better resolution.Same applies when comparing m5000 65k colours with VGA resolutin against n95-the m5000 screen is way better because of the HR.If you don't believe that then you have never used or compared the said models

ok guys juz sharing some point of view... well.. actually WHAT we can see in a lcd?

1st, pixel patch - the smaller the pixel the better quality & sharper the picture in the screen will be.

2nd, contrast ratio - the higher the contrast ratio the color tend to be deeper and you could see more difference in the screen lets say a lcd or plasma VS a mega-plasma tv?

3rd color, yeah nowadays we are reaching the point of 16m colors in mostly nokia's phone and also almost same with commercial use destop lcd screen which is slightly higher(16.7m color) the more the color they have means they can produce a graphic more lifely compared to the phone we used to have 1bit = 2colors= black & white.

so basically what we CAN SEE in normal specs is colors & qvga/vga screen not till contrast ratio & pixel patch. a 65k doesnt really can win a 256k color screen yet.so far... the best phone around i think it should be sharp phones...

As in marketing strategy.. what we can know if they produce a perfect phone... then what can they produce next time? its already a perfect phone and even perfect phone? there are nth as perfect...the phone will never perfect if you never satisfy with it...

                                        Hi.
I've a question to TYTN II users. Is it true that TomTom & WorldCard Mobile are trail versions ? If yes, are there any other applications that are trails ?
