4) Mi 5s Plus has a horrible build quality, like all Xiaomi phones
5) The Mate 9 has a better camera than the S7, which doesn't even use USB Type-C

What matter is performance which it has much better then Samsungs which has poor software optimization as always.

IMO i feel ashamed on this device
no IP water resistance rating for a flagship.
battery life not as great as any other even worst than mi5s plus (half of it's pricetag).
no 2k screen(for what having Mali G71 the latest GPU but on 1080p only?)
without any hardkey(softkey onscreen very irritating) (offcoz saving cost for that LOL)
last but not least it's not cheap at all!

GPU is weak especially for the porsche design which cost $1500
samsung is putting mali G71 MP18 and MP20 in their upcoming exynos chips.
while huawei still giving MP8. last year, they did the same with mali by providing MP4 while exynos had the MP12 version

I've been waiting for this phone to release for months. I'm on Sprint in the USA. I'm now finding out none of the international versions will work on CDMA, really bummed me out since the Specs say it has CDMA. Anyone have any idea if the US version will work on CDMA (Sprint/Verizon)?

I have had this phone (model MHA-AL00) for a month and have used it a lot. I have also owned the Mate 8 and Mate 7 and have used most competing phones. I would not recommend this phone and disagree with the review for a few reasons:
- Huawei service is an important part of the experience and in my experience it has been awful and unresponsive. I have been trying constantly to obtain a bootloader unlock code which Huawei requires you to log in for 14 days and then apply. The problem is that after these 14 days they don't give you a code and don't reply. Unlocking a bootloader with a phone like this is critical as there needs to be ability to control some aspects of the phone's security and performance particularly with some of the built-in apps connecting to China. I basically don't think Huawei will deal with any problem that comes up and frankly I don't trust them either. I'd stay away.
- The firmware is still a bit flaky with battery life not that of the Mate 8 yet (either running EMUI 4 or 5) and some things need improvement. It's not completely stable yet either in the camera or otherwise.
I would just get a Google Pixel or even the Nexus 6P instead. If one wants a good Chinese phone that is a phablet, the LeMax 2 is much better or the Nubia Z11 is also a very solid performer with a lot of flexibility. Neither of these have the bootloader issues that the Huawei phone has and are more open systems. In particular, I can run DNScrypt on the LeMax 2 and both DNScrypt and Viper on the Z11.
Unfortunately I really regret purchasing the Huawei Mate 9.
