Since batteries degrade a lot over that period of time, you could just take out, and replace the battery of the G5, since its battery is removable, where other phones have their batteries sealed in

AnonD-646777, 22 Feb 2017If I buy this phone now, could it last for 3-4 years? I mea... morePhones with user-replaceable batteries can always help prolong a phone's life since the most likely component to give out is the battery.
If you want a Samsung or Xiaomi, get a lower end one with removable battery. I have Xiaomi but didn't like how each software update ruined my battery life and Mi PC Suite isn't compatible to my MacBook. That's the balance you get when wanting new features and faster performance. You sacrifice efficiency.
Samsung is known to have laggy phones after awhile thanks to having the poorest software optimization among all Android OEM's. The Snapdragon 820 is actually a pretty powerful chip as seen as how smooth and fast the OnePlus 3, G5, and HTC 10 have shown. Samsung made it look pale in comparison to their Exynos with terrible RAM management.
I am also reluctant getting an iPhone X because OLED will have burn-in and think curved displays and bezel-less are useless, uncomfortable, trendy, cosmetic gimmicks. Go with the G5. It will last and last years. I have owned all kinds of brands from Samsung, Apple, HTC, and so forth. LG is the only brand that knows what I usually want. The rest keep making the same mistakes every year to appeal to the fashionista tech crowd.

lg_g5 (h860), 21 Feb 2017well my phone is ruined in my view after done the "nougat v... moreI always keep it in the original firmware it came with. I just disable Google Services once in awhile unless and block any annoying "software update" notifications. I couldn't root my phone, so I figured out how to block it but would enable Google Services again when I need to use the YouTube app or any other app that needs it enabled.
I read that Nougat is supposed to use more battery life even with the improved Doze feature for standby. Check the tests. The S7 edge gets a minimum of 10% worse battery life although that is a year old battery and naturally would degrade. And I noticed Nougat uses more RAM. Project Svelte V2, I don't think so. Nougat was supposed to be what KitKat was. If KitKat was the most stable in the Holo era, it seems Marshmallow is the best for the Material Design era. Not as problematic as either Android 5 but not quite battery and RAM heavy as Android 7.
For others thinking of updating, stick to Android 6. Nougat is both problematic in both battery life and RAM. My RAM usage on my G5 hits to 59% used at most. I go to check out the V20 with Nougat and it is hitting over 80%. I know unused RAM is wasted RAM but I prefer keeping it up to 30% free after being stuck with phones with only 1 GB RAM for years.
Best -
KitKat
Marshmallow
Nougat
Lollipop
Ice Cream Sandwich
Jelly Bean
Gingerbread
Marshmallow is definitely the best to stick to in this Material Design era.

Anonymous, 21 Feb 2017same here, i am very happy with my phone which is running n... moreExactly! LG thinks different. When they tried doing it last year, they got bashed for it because all these so-called tech reviewers who know nothing about tech who needs a pretty design to boost their low self-esteem. Apple and now Samsung are brainwashing people for flash over substance.
I just never understood the bashing this phone got. Poor build quality? Since when is having glass rears considered better build quality? The metal on the G5 might have been painted on but even the matte iPhone 7/7 Plus is known for scuffing. Mine is silver anyway which is the best neutral color to hide smudges on matte plastic or metal. And another quality that the G5 has - IT RARELY GETS HOT!
I also own a Note 3, Mi 3, Moto E2, Lumia 640, and gold LG G3 Beat. I love having both my LG's next to each other and the G5 perfectly matches with my silver MacBook. The G5 easily surpasses them all my phones. My only qualm isn't the light bleed or screen retention. It is how quite dim it is. I need to put it to 100% brightness to match my Moto at only 60%.
The problem with the critics and blind haters is they were only devoted pointing out the G5's flaws like the gimmicky LG Friends and modular design. They called it a flop or couldn't get over the rear design when it basically looked like the Nexus 6P. But they never pointed out what the G5 did right which were the essentials at making a great phone.
- Decent battery life
- Comfortable to hold
- Great camera on par with S7 edge
- Excellent IPS screen
- Loud external speaker
- Good audio all-around
- Great price value
- MicroSD slot and removable battery for future proofing storage and usage.
The basics. That's what the G5 got right but all the critics lie to us like the liberal media and want SEXY toss away devices. Skip the G6. No removable battery, no thanks! When LG wanted to be different last year, they got criticized. When they want to be the same ol', same ol' like the rest of them with this G6, they will be criticized. D*mn if you do, d*mn if you don't.
Think about it. The smart money is on the G5. I got mine for only $240 which I paid off entirely two days later after I got it. The S7 edge is considered the best of last year but still goes for $700 and Americans get the Snapdragon 820. The SoC isn't the problem because the G5 and OP3 flies. It is Samsung's lame skin and poor optimization on the Qualcomm's. The camera and battery life might be better on it by a little over the G5, but not $460 better. G5 is a better deal than all those Chinese makers. Mi 5, Axon 7, OnePlus 3, it beats them all...
G5 = Most unique, most underrated, most misunderstood, and best all-around flagship of 2016. Ahead of its time. But a flop because it wasn't pretty enough by fashionistas who judges designs from the rear!

So I've had the phone for a month and had to replace it 3 times already!!!! The back button to turn the phone on and off keeps breaking!! I'm very upset about the poor design and sturdyness of the phone. Other than that its a smooth phone, but if it happens again im getting a different phone.

this in one of the best phone i have ever used after 6s plus. i have used samsung flagships like note3,note4,note5 and s7 edge for few days only. the reason i returned s7 edge in overheating other note devices did good for me about 7 months because i never use same phone more than a year. lg g5 in the first phone i'm using longer. i bought it on the same day available in qatar and got extra battery and charging case along with camera module; the camera is far better than s7 edge if you know how to use manual mode otherwise you cant have best image with auto mode. battery is better than note 3 and note 4 and note 5 but s7 edge and 6s plus have better battery life than it but it never matters as i have two batteries i charge one while using other and does for a full day. i swap it in the morning with the charged one and never plug my phone itself till now. its faster than samsung devices but 6s plus is faster than it. image retention in very unnoticeable but app called blue light filter fixes it 100%. sd card slot removable battery ir blaster are awesome features. put a good case to avoid uglier back design anyway you rarely look on back of phone. speaker in far better than s7 edge notes and 6splus. charging also faster than any other devices i have used. dont hesitate to go for it. never lagged in past 8 months and sometimes messenger stopped and just uninstalled and installed it and fixed. best phone after 6s plus for me loved it.

Thanks! The silver one of the G5 is gorgeous. I use grayish wallpapers with an Android logo for the lockscreen. I simply never understood the hate for this phone. It has a great camera, screen, feels comfortable to hold in the hand removable battery, inexpensive, excellent external speaker, charges fast, and doesn't overheat. No bootloops so far.
Ugly design? I don't pay attention to the rear as most of us don't look at that side and we can cover it with a case anyway. The iPhones of the last three gens in any color has an ugly rear too. At least the G5 doesn't attract smudges like the overrated S7 edge. And both the G5's build quality and battery life have been rock solid so far.
I noticed most people who actually OWN this device is very happy with it or simply love it. The haters who bash it just want to troll. With my spare battery tucked away, I know I can use this for at least 3-4 years while my future iPhone X battery should be dying by that point. This phone will be appreciated as time goes by users who actually own it for years...

LG G5 is like webOS. Underrated, underappreciated. Best smartphone of 2016. It describes Android the best. Quirky, fun, customizable, but open to the many possibilities. Such a shame this phone never got its due. Even if I buy an iPhone X later this year, I would still love my G5 more. I love Android and anything with removable battery and microSD slot. I love the G5, I paid it off completely just an hour ago. All $240 ($10x24) for Sprint which sets me up to be eligible for another phone later this year. Best bargain from 2016. Better value than OnePlus 3 and ZTE Axon 7. Love live the G5, baby!
