Samath N8 808 owner, 03 Mar 2021Oh yes, I almost forgot about the 3.5mm jack. Reminds me, t... moreWith a budget of around Rs. 5000, it is better to stick with In-Ear headphones. That two names that instantly comes in my mind are SoundMagic E50C & E80C. Both pairs very well with LG QuadDACs. E50C @ 51 ohms and E80C @ 64 ohms. So both triggers high impedance mode on G8X.
Regarding their sound signature, E50C right off the bat sounds more musical, energetic & euphoric of the two. Rich mids and excellent high frequency details. Bass does not over power.
E80C is more about accurate sound reproduction, more of a natural studio quality sound. You get just what the music director intended, nothing more, nothing less. E80C is less entertaining of the two but ranks higher in terms of audio fidelity over E50C. Bass is tight, instrument separation is unheard in its price segment, more details while being less musical and dead accurate.
In my ears G8X & E50C pairs great and sounds more musical & entertaining of the two. I enjoy this sound signature more. But if you want to use something for critical music listening sessions with a flavor for studio sound gun for E80C. In the end I like E50C with G8X and E80C with iQOO3.
They were retailing very cheap during Republic Day Sale, 2021 in TataCliq, so I bought both. I had E80C @ Rs 3,150, E50C @ Rs. 2,137 after card discounts. In my ears they reaped 200% of the their initial cost in terms of sound quality.

RishiGuru, 03 Mar 2021The first requirement of an audio centric smartphone is to ... moreOh yes, I almost forgot about the 3.5mm jack. Reminds me, this was the reason I rejected these 2 phones in the first place..
You're right. As of now, just no reason exists that we bundle ourselves with a dongle compulsorily, we've IP68 ratings in phones with jacks, plus USB audio still works in all phones, for the rarest of cases we might need that exclusively too (for example, to review a dongle for youtube or so).
Thanks for the response.
Lastly, for my G8x, could you please suggest a good quality (high impedance, medium to big driver) headphone for acoustic/jazz/instrumental/classic/balanced (not so much into hiphop/bass) listening, available in India (online, I'm in a small city), around Rs. 5000 (extendable slightly for an awesome deal, if any)?

Samath N8 808 owner, 02 Mar 2021Of course, gaming on LG phones for now can be best describe... moreThe first requirement of an audio centric smartphone is to have an 3.5mm audio jack, so that you can connect your audiophile grade earphones/ headphones to listen to. Sadly iQOO5 & iQOO 7 does not have any. Secondly, these two phones were not launched in India, so have no first hand experience.
iQOO 3 which I own may be the last of the dying breed of flagships that came with an audio jack, a dedicated audio chip (AKM AK4377A) for superlative analog audio, Snapdragon 865, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage and a Samsung E3 Super AMOLED display with HDR 10+ certification. This phone is a multimedia & gaming monster.
Comparing my LG G8X & iQOO 3 in terms of analog audio quality, G8X is superior in every sense. It is unfair to compare an ESS audio chip in G8X with a cheaper AKM audio chip in iQOO. ESS & Cirrus Logic audio chips are at the very top in performance charts.
But still I found AK4377A audio tuning is done very well on iQOO 3 due to decades of experience Vivo has on this field and the sound signature is beautiful. Power wise G8X can pump 2 Vrms through audio jack but iQOO is no slough either at 1.5 Vrms. So earphones with above 60 ohms impedance drive easily on both.
As far as I can remember IQOO 5 Pro had a Cirrus Logic CS43131 chip inside, but without an audio jack it makes no sense to be me as I despise USB audio dongles.

One more thing I wanted to ask you, do the IQOO 5 and IQOO 7 also come with similarly high powered chips? I'm suggesting IQOO to a friend who doesn't like LG for some reason, but wants a good audio setup.

Samath N8 808 owner, 27 Feb 2021Maybe you can reduce graphics settings?
Its a Snapdragon 8... moreLG's are great phones... but they are not properly game optimized to run heavy duty games for sustained period. But LG's like G8X have other strengths where it excels. On the contrary I find my iQOO 3 to be very well game optimized and thermals are always under check even under sustained gaming. To each their own.
In the end both have their own strengths and weaknesses. Analog audio through audio jack is great on both as both comes with dedicated HiFi audio chips. After using the iQOO for two days I have to reconsider the term "blazing fast" as the combination of SD865 + LPDDR5 RAM + UFS 3.1 storage is a true weapon.

For everyone feeling that their LG phones won't perform as how it's expected from their processors... Since LG's ROM packs a lot of bloatware running in the background, they cause extra battery drain, lag, heating and overall make the phone to not perform as how it should. There are a lot of debloating guides in XDA and Reddit and the best part about them is that they don't require root access. Only a PC with ADB Tools installed on. So I would recommend everyone with an LG phone to check them out.

Its a Snapdragon 855 & Adreno 640, it is fast, but adjusting graphics might help a lot.
In PUBG, I keep its framerate on Extreme and Quality on Standard, which is above basic, but below HD...
Although it does maintain 60 fps on HD as well, but it gets hot sooner and occasional micro-freezes are more in number per game...

DineshReddy, 19 Feb 2021Phone's hardware is awesome but the software is a lot ... moreI didn't notice AOD Lock screen issue because I kept AOD off. I would suggest you do the same because this is OLED and its life (wrt colour accuracy) is limited.
Maybe I did get the erratic issue of screen off during calls. I do lock the phone using the key during calls though, so that's one solution.
Scrolling issue is something I didn't face ever.
But I did face some software issues of my own, none too big to spoil the experience. Although, I upgraded from a Redmi 2 Prime so this does feel blazing fast.

DineshReddy, 19 Feb 2021Phone's hardware is awesome but the software is a lot ... moreAs an owner of LG G8X for last 5 months, I admit the software have some niggling issues. But hey for ₹ 18K ($245) brand new in India, ZERO complaints. Actually their is nothing in the $400 bracket in my country that can compete with this phone in terms or raw specs.
I do firmly believe, G8X will receive Android 11 but timing will be late Q4, 2021. This way LG fulfills both 2 Android software upgrades and 3 years of Android security patch upgrades since release.

Phone's hardware is awesome but the software is a lot buggy.. The thing is they don't give updates at all to fix these bugs.
Few I recognised are
Lock screen (AOD) issue where even when AOD is turned on we can't see it on lock screen and we have to press lock button twice to turn screen on and double tap to wake also won't work in this situation and reboot won't fix it. Similar issue with screen turning off during call is also buggy it won't turn off or turn on in some situations.
Other issue is scrolling issue , while scrolling it feels smooth but it mis clicks and open the file while we are scrolling through files.
Hardware wise it shouldn't hang while using but it hangs and screen stops working.
I don't think any of this is hardware issue rather software issue I have bought this almost 5 months back and I haven't received any security or bug fixes update it's security patch is of September 2020 and I think this device may not recieve Android 11 but these bugs have to be fixed these sometimes last so much time.
Finally , the hardware is amazing but software isn't good with hardware should be fixed..
