Freefaller, 20 Aug 2010Something is happening that I DON'T like !
I sometimes get... more@ Freefaller,
Disable "Enable Background Data"..but that's all it does, check for updates, for the likes of google maps, etc, it won't download them, and i doubt you would notice any lowering of your limit due to it.
@Dess,
Any standard micro SD card would do, to be honest, from a reliable manufacturer, like Sandisk or Peak, for example.
But look for class rating..a 4 or 6 would do fine, which most will be.

Carbonize, 15 Aug 2010Except price and available apps you mean? here in UK Wave i... moreI agree on the apps side the LG wins, as far as the price diff goes i think it reflects on how much better the wave is, its worth every penny.

I have not had a single problem or issue with this phone. No crashing or freezing it's fast reliable & of good quality. Even camera is decent outdoors but no flash

One more thing about the possible 2.2 Upgrade:
The Customer Support guy told on the phone that there is definitely going to be an upgrade to 2.2 in September.
Still, true or not, with 1.6 the unit works fine..

@ RottenFoxBreath
Thank you very much.
Manufactures should give a small "Android Operation Manual" to Android's first time users.
Very fast little phone, Android's original Home (by Home selector) is much more responsive than LG's. But Lg's is more eye pleasing and organized for the first use.
About the Micro SD Card question, I Suppose the rule is: the faster the better.. right? Is there any specs (other than speed) about micro SD cards I should care about?

Something is happening that I DON'T like !
I sometimes get a notification in the top bar that an update is available for one of my apps. How does the phone know that? It can only know by going onto the Internet by itself, and that I DON'T like.
Where do I turn that option OFF. I don't want the phone to access the Internet without me knowing.
Help requested with this.

Seriously, turn off things that are not needed, like wifi, or bluetooth, or GPS, but for the battery to last a day or two is really good, most new phones, *cough*HTC, iphone, etc, you have to charge them every day, and some don't even make it through the day.

Greetings!
I own this smart phone 3 days now and I'm excited about it! (smart phone newbie here) There are some things though..
Would you be so kind to help me with the following issues please?
1. I deleted by mistake the calendar application (last left screen from the default five) now all I have is a blanc wallpaper. Can I restore it back or do I have to reset the unit to factory defaults to get it back?
2. I can't access the Micro SD card from windows (both XP and Vista, two different pcs)
Windows can't find a compatible driver and I have to remove manually the card from the phone and
insert it to card reader, which is a pain. (I've tried USB debugging on and off from the phone, doesn't work)
Drivers installed are six:
LGE Android Composite USB Device,
LGE Android USB Modem,
LGE Android Serial Port (Com22),
LGE Android USB NMEA Port (Com23),
USB Mass Storage Device,
LGE Android Platform USB Device
Installed Programs are four:
LG Android Driver
LG SP USB Driver
LG USB Modem Driver
LG USB WML Modem Driver
(I hope the above helps)
Can anyone confirm the above installed drivers and programs, as I think LG Suite is kind of 'weird suite' compared to similar suites of other manufactures (Sony-Erricson, Nokia, Motorola).
3. Does a Class 6 Micro SD card make a difference in unit's speed? (camera and applications, compared to the phone's installed one) (I found on-line a Silicon Memory micro SD 8GB for 22 Euros)
4. Anyone ever used GT540 as a 3G Modem? ( see also: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/06/AR2010050605611.html)
Thank you in advance.

The LG GT540 is a great phone. It's not an iphone but it is a LOT cheaper! I got one from the carphone warehouse for £99 + £10 top-up. They sell it unlocked so it works great with a giffgaff simcard! The phone is fast and the 3 inch screen is great. It is a resistive touchscreen but it is very good and readable in sunlight (just adjust the brightness). Battery last the whole day with GPS and WIFI on and heavy internet use. It has Android version 1.6 which works fine. Camera is okay. I looked at other phones around £100 and this is really the best.
Tips: Install SwiftKey for better keyboard input (search for swiftkey on the Android Market). Other useful free Android apps: K-9 Mail, Jorte, Evernote, Dropbox, Automatic Task Killer, ShopSavvy.
