Say, for instance, that new Google Voice Actions that requires Android 2.2, or any number of apps and functions like that.
2.1 will be released officialy by LG in september, 2.2 is not in the works AFAIK. For that, you'd have to do some black magic.

v1.... morethere are some improvements in 2.1 that are important. other are more visual
but its good for games/apps that require 2.1
unfortunately, the biggest problem will be that you wont be able to install apps on sd card... thats a shame

Why is everyone here obsessed with an Android update ?
v1.6 works fine on this phone. WHY do you want an update ? What do you want v2.1 to do that v1.6 can't ?
Do you update the video card in your PC everytime the manufacturer brings out a new one ? Of course you don't; because the one you've got works fine.
Same with your car. Do you rush out and buy the latest model of the one you've got ? NO !
Stop going on about 'When is Android 2.1 coming out'. The phone works fine with the OS it's got.

I got my phone today and I really like it..!
-But everytime I try to download from the market it comes with a notification saying "download unsuccessful"..
Anyone knows whats's wrong?
P.S. It has really been helpful for me to read all the prev posts.

Does this phone have flash,if none, is there a programme for this? How good is the call quality? Is there a way /programme to stop apps from automatically running eating up credit? Also, can you store apps on unto the micro sd card because there doesn't seem to be much storage on the phone itself - if not, is there an app for this?
I would love to hear from anyone who has this phone and tell us what they think of it! Thanks!

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2010That should read: "£16 in less than a week"Your request to go to Text & Web, should be pretty much instant, if you push them hard enough, as in, tell them to change it now, as you were never made aware of the costs otherwise.
What you can do in the meantime, is go into your wireless settings, and switch OFF, "Mobile Network", this will stop all chargable activity so should stop your credit being eaten...the only downside is that you won't get MMS messages, but until they change you, it will save you cash.
Personally i would get back on the phone to them and tell them to change it now, rather than waiting for the anniversary, of your top up date(which i assume they are doing).
Also, it's pretty stupid of companies sticking sims in the box which aren't on the tariff for that phone, like Text & Web, and putting pre set "text anytime" sims in..mental.

theres a photo of 2.1 running on the GT540 on the net already, and 2.1 Will be coming soon.
LG support know nothing, and the screen can take a load of punishment.
It's a sensitive screen alright, IF the front screen protector is removed(which i've seen people not realise there is one on it.
as for not taking 2.2 due to multi touch...utter crap.!
By the way, what are you hoping for with a product with a 2.1 update?...theres virtually no difference to 1.6, it's not the holy grail of phone softwares..the phone works absolutely fine with 1.6 and will with 2.1

I am still undecided if I should buy the Optimus. I had a look at the phone at an O2 store and I wasn't too pleased about a couple things (soft display,responsiveness,Android 1.6- not upgradable to lastest OS), but still packed with features for the price!
