Zono, 05 Feb 2013Hey buddy, don't ruin your first experience with smart phon... more@Zono, I will forgive you this once for your ignorance. I do know after reading everything on the net on Optimus 4x HD that it is not getting timely updates. However, I also do understand that it will get the update 1st quarter of this year, and the bootloader will be unlocked as well. So I am good with those facts and figures.

As for the rest, I am only concerned about camera and audio through earphones. I am really not interested in a 'mine is b****r that yours' game. S3's AMOLED display sucks, so does HTC OneX's battery. This phone has both, a good display and battery with all the updates. So if I get a genuine word on the camera and audio quality, than I place an order tonight.

it's funny that some people here claim their LG 4X HD's batteries are strong by disabling almost everything.

I've been using this phone for barely 2 weeks now since I bought it last 01/26/2013 and I have no problems with the phone so far since it has almost the same features(some are better) than the s3 and the htc one x and its less pricey than the 2 phones.Web browsing is really fast, color is crisp,no lag at all while playing games, sound quality is crystal clear, the only cons I have is the battery life which easily drains but that's expected for a powerful baby like this and no JB Update yet but regardless of it having an update or not,I'm super happy with this phone.Just want to know when it will have an update since the LG customer care rep said they don't have any update when I called yesterday.Anybody know when JB update will be available for this phone??Please let me know...thanks

pino, 04 Feb 2013om thanks for the update. and yeah you can ofc backup if... moreHi Pino,

I am about to buy this phone but there are a few things that are holding me back (or else, in India, sometimes it is coming out to be 33% cheaper than OneX or S3, which is just superb)

              1. Camera quality - I saw the Neowin Review and it is the most honest review I've seen of this phone. Camera isn't its forte, but is a critical factor for me. With some 3rd party softwares, can it be any better, especially in darker settings?

              2. Video - How good is the video with 3rd party softwares after updating the phone with 10h firmware update.?

              3. I reckon that the battery issues are also taken care of with 10f/g or something like that?

              4. How good is the music player with or without PowerAmp?

              5. White or Black?

              6. Jelly bean is rumored to be out in Q1,13 with unlocked bootloader as well. Will that mean that CM and others will port their android version to 4x HD as well?

Anything else I should know before I make the purchase. This is my first time for a smart phone, so just trying to play safe.

              Thanks in advance.

pino, 04 Feb 2013om thanks for the update. and yeah you can ofc backup if... moreDang, I forgot to mention- I don't use 3G- I keep it off all the time. I even keep 2G data off. I only browse the net via wifi and only when I need it- else it's off too. I have never used the stock browser- I like Chrome on the O4X. Ads eat up a lot of battery life. I remember reading a long while back that ads were the main culprit of draining battery with the Angry Birds game- not the actual game itself.

OT, Google Play sucks with the payment options. Wish they had more payment options. Not everybody has a credit card in my country. Such folks have no other option but to go with free ad supported software or worse, go down the other less legal route of getting ad-free apps as you said.

and yeah you can ofc backup if you have root sadly without root thats impossible:(

i also did some more reading arround to save battery while actaly using the phone as overnight drainage with 3g off is less then 1% for me now.

and some sites have reports that apps with adds use up to 50% of the total power used by the apps !

so if you have the money get the payed version of apps.
if you are unluckt and dont have a creditcard (shame on you google for having such poor payment options) there are other less legal ways of getting apps without adds.
also disabling the stock browser and getting another like chrome or opera really helps.
it got me 30 minutes extra use time yesterday.

anyway ill updateif i found more ways to save bettery on use.
as people should be near no use on idle with wifi on and 3g off.

AnonD-12580, 29 Jan 2013Further updates: Audio quality: I decided to check out... moreAudio quality contd-

I take back what I said about the O4X sounding terrible with my Westone 4 in-ears. Following pino's suggestion, I used the full version of Poweramp to listen to music instead of the stock player. I didn't use any eq-s or mods to sound quality except for direct volume control.

Boy, the sound quality is nothing like what it had sounded earlier on the stock player. It's brilliant- all the flaws I had mentioned earlier are gone now. The relatively uncolored sound signature and good presentation of details are particular favorites.

The only thing I can nitpick about would be the lackluster and probably a bit rolled off highs. High notes are recognizable, but without the sheer shimmer and sparkle of dedicated audio player with an unfiltered dac like the Clip. However, with bright iems like the Panasonic HJE900, this problem is also resolved. Absolutely nothing to be worried about- 99% of the folks won't ever notice this.

In short, the O4X handles audio perfectly fine. Just ditch the stock player and use a good third party one. Thanks to pino for suggesting me to give the O4X another chance and try out this method.

Sorry for not replying earlier- it's been quite busy at my workplace lately.

I rooted my O4X and flashed europe open v10H firmware the very next day I bought it. I haven't disabled any apps- I uninstalled them altogether with system app remover (which requires root access of course). I followed the list on xda which is titled something like 'Big battery save! apps that can be removed safely...' My phone is almost bare bones stock- there's nothing extra that I don't need.

I backup apps which I need with mybackup root and in case something goes wrong, I would just reflash the firmware kdz file with the LGMobile Support tool.

also i have done some research to shut the jely bean whiners up.

first of jelly beanwasnt released till 27th of july so saying that after a year theres still nog JB is just wrong as its barely 6 months old.

secondly the one x (lg's direct competition) was released on 5th of april and got the JB update on 5th of december.

the lg was released more then 2 months later on mid june.
so if lg takes the same time to make the update as HTC did they are not even behind HTC in the timeline so far.
they would have to the end of february.

so lg is doing fine with this phones major update.
and done forget LG made 5 small updates to increase safety and fix the one and only issue (camera) while they could have left us hanging and work on JB directly.
what would you have liked more?
and what has HTC done i that time to fix its sluggish ui and memory hogging rom?
the one x has barely 380 mb ram free stock on my lg i have 550 mb ram free for me to use and its smoother.

so people stop complaining as lg is still on time so far.
its coming and when its there they atleast make sure its working as they do take more time to test it.

they can be atleast 20% cheaper then the competition and therefore blow them away as after all were still in a crisis here and theres more and more cuts to salarys and higher expences.
lets hope they see the light and start shipping their products to europe.

hunny, 04 Feb 2013hy bro i used once quad gear box and defintly it make quad ... morei dont know why it shouldnt be save but i do know that sometimes its getting stuck on dual core and you cannot get it back to quad core.
this only happens if you use more cpu power then your companion core can handle from what ive tested or if you have a cpu managing app open like cpu spy.
best thing to do is disable apps like whatsapp that use notifications then reboot the phone and you can add the 2 cores again.

as for removing apps some of the apps can be uninstalled normaly but some of them arent in the play store so you need to flash a .kdz rom (your phone will be completely stock after that) to get them back may you need them in the future.

some apps are build in and to remove them you need root acces to uninstall them.
if you can disable it rather then uninstall id chose that option as its saver and only takes a few mb of your space anyway.

With regards to smartphones coming out this year, I would advise not to go for one of these silly 5" 1080p phones because it's not worth it, it will be too sharp ad it will drain the battery so much. At the moment my choices are listed as the Huawei Ascend Mate as my no.1 choice as it is 6.1" at 720p resolution and an IPS+ display which will be a perfect combination, whether the phone will perform as it should is a totally different matter, but Huawei are a big company and they will definitely do well this year. Also later this year Samsung and Sony are coming out with their 6"+ smartphones with the note 3 expected to be 6.3" and the sony togari being an unbelievable 6.44", although sony may not release this for europe, but lets hope so. It's all looking very exciting for this year and I am sure LG will also excite us with a sucessor to this 4x hd.

so after messing about a few days i found a setup that works wonders for me.
last night i lost 0% battery over 9 hours.

my phone is UNrooted and wifi always ON and i have quad gearbox installed and enabled (disables 2 cores but the remaining 2 stay at 1500 mhz.)

i had the following apps active

-Gtalk (its under google services process).
                                      -Whatsapp
                                      -LG keyboard
-missed message flasher (makes a sound every 10 min after i got a message)
-weather app for the widged on a 3h refresh.

now for the apps i had disabled.

                                      -application manager
                                      -calendar widget
                                      -cell broadcast
                                      -DRM service
                                      -DRM protected storage
                                      -e-mail widged
                                      -favorite contacts widget
                                      -financial app
                                      -gmail app
                                      -google partner setup
                                      -google search
                                      -google+
-internet (thats the browser i disabled it as it sends data to google and that uses up to 16% inapp battery according to some study)
-Maps (this is a big drain but with unchecking some boxes in the app settings you can reduce that if you need the app.
-news! app as it doesnt support my country anyway
-remote call service (as its useless untill you have a issue they can solve remotely).
-social+ (as it seemed to do nothing).
                                      -street view

theres a LOT more that can be disabled but sadly only by removing the apps all together and im not yet ready to commit to that as i have no way of getting them back for now.

as you can see i dont have facebook app inthere this is because i have it installed but i shut it down before i went to bed because of testing purposes and i now knoe that thatapp alone is good for 2% battery usage over 9 hours.
which is acceptable but 0% sounds better as i dont read it when i sleep anyway.
when i start up the app all works fine again so thats a nice middleway solution there.
before you go to bed go to settings>applications>active apps and stop the facebook process.

thats this update post from me so far when i figired out more in the near future ill let you know.
if you have questions feel free to ask.

halo, 02 Feb 2013@Pino,thank Pino for your active comment here. First, I wan... morePino is LG fanboy and i am also used to have 4x and I don't recommend u to buy this phone ..
I am previous owner of LG 4X and now i am usin my note 2 and I tried to sell my 4x but no one in phone stores want to buy it since lg isn't popular in my country and resale value of LG used phone are disaster because I bought it for around 650 $ when it came out and if someone want now he will pay 100-200 $ for it so. I gave my phone present to my young brother as for his birthday gift ..

I will tell u why I am so mad about my 4x ..

                                        1) No update, it's been almost one year and version is still 4.0.3 and even in future there will be no update and LG 2x is good example of what I am talking ..

                                        2) there is lag on some HD games like real football and other race game from gameloft , HOW COME quad core phone lag even my old s2 doesn't lag on that games ??
                                        (Sadly I sold my s2 to buy 4x )

                                        3) the battery is 2100 amp but it's drain so fast during net browsing , I think because of nivada chip but still it's annoying ..

                                        4) no accessories for this phone even LG dealers doesn't have accessories like back cover and screen protector unlike Samsung products , you can find accessories everywhere ..

                                        5) the quality of the camera is SUCK , it looks almost dark and it doesn't feel like it's 8 mp beside the sound of audio isn't that good .. its ok .

Still I must admit this phone looks better than s3 but since it
Remains ICS 4.0.3 forever then why u want to buy it ..
There are so many phones are better that lg 4x on the stores
and if u like LG then try LG nexus 4 , it least u will get update so fast from Google and good luck :)
