Anonymous, 26 Feb 2019oh no, you sure showed me. ok ok I'll make a new deal an... moreBut we'll miss you! :-P You've been here trolling the V20 since 2017! Besides, you need to stay here until 2021 or 2022 as it's the only way to know for sure if V20 users are still using their V20s for the multitude of features they bought it for, which you call 'lowly' and 'outdated' technology in 2017: FM radio, IR blaster, removable battery, dual sim with dedicated micro sd storage expansion, 3.5mm jack, etc.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2019I've never twisted the rules. The features that the V20 has... moreLet me get this straight. The V50 Thinq has got almost everything the V20 has except the IR blaster and removable battery. In exchange, it has 4000mAh battery and a faster processor plus other improved specs. However, I want an IR blaster in my phone and at least 5000mAh in exchange for a sealed battery (currently spoiled by my 6500mAh PowerBear battery in my V20) so no, I WON'T upgrade. Besides, 4000mAh is so common nowadays so I'm sure, 5000mAh will easily become available in flagships a few years from now.

The Mate 20 also has got almost everything the V20 has except a dedicated micro sd card slot and a removable battery. Like the V50, has 4000mAh battery and higher processor speed and other improved specs in exchange for absence of removable battery. However, I always use dual SIM and the nano card is still not widely available (and no huge 400GB storage) so no, won't upgrade. Also, I want no less than 5000mAh if the battery is sealed as I'm spoiled by my 6500mAh PowerBear battery so no, I won't upgrade to any of the two despite them being close enough to the V20 in feature set.

I'd buy any of them though if I didn't have the V20 in the first place. But since I have the V20, both should have 2 more improvements for me to dump my V20: 1. At least 5000mAh sealed battery in exchange for the V20's removable battery, and 2. An IR blaster for the V50 or a dedicated card slot (with at least 400gb storage option) for the Mate 20. Maybe their successors will have them in a few years. Until then, I'm sticking with my V20. See you in 2022.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2019Change the rules all you want I will be super disappointed ... moreI've never twisted the rules. The features that the V20 has are that aren't available in current flagships are the reason I'm not upgrading. See you in 2022 then. Don't worry, we'll still enjoy our V20's in as much as you will still be envying them here.

Chances are quite a number of V20s might very well last up to 5 years.
Someone who does not even own the device but is keen to check in to have his hopes dismissed in 2021, while putting a twisted smile on his face, can hardly be called successful, can he ? ;)

It's only been a little over 2 years and looks like cracks are appearing and you're only almost at the half way point of a 5 year usage cycle. Some of you I think even got your V20 in 2017 which technically means you need to go until 2022.

Trust me, it will be much easier for a non-V20 user like myself to come here and check in on you than it will be for you guys to actually use a V20 for 5 years hahaha :-P

              Good luck!

                1. It's dead.
                2. Android Nougat/Oreo can no longer access and install apps from the Playstore (like gingerbread, ice cream sandwich), or
                3. Some technological change renders majority of its features unusable or non-operational. (Ex. micro sd format becomes obsolete, FM radio broadcasts are shut down, IR blased remotes and ir based appliances are no longer produced, LTE is phased out, dual sim use becomes irrelevant, 5000mAh and larger battery capacities become available in flagship phones, etc. or
                4. A true successor comes along that has everything the V20 has except for the removable battery (in exchange, it has to have at least 5000mAh battery).

There won't be a Pie for the V20. LG wants V20 users to upgrade instead to the V50 Thinq 5G which already has Pie. I doubt though if the V50 will have regular software updates. LG is dying as a mobile phone brand so software updates for the V50 will be a lot worse.

The V50 has dual sim with dedicated micro sd card support, a headphone jack, FM radio and a 4000mAh battery so it's basically an acceptable enough successor to the V20 but still, it's got no IR blaster. Hopefully future versions (V60 or V70) will have it or it's Huawei's future Mate and P flagships for me as they always had IR blasters, headphone jacks, FM radios, excellent cameras and huge 4000mAh+ batteries. And much better software updates too! (Not like LG's horrendous software update support).

For the record, my other V20, the -ESA-xx variant, is still on Nougat 7.0, the software it launched with in 2016. And it's not alone. Many other V20 regional variants were also NEVER upgraded to Oreo.

So be warned if you ever buy an LG phone especially one as expensive as the V50 Thinq 5G. Better yet, get the regular Mate 20 for less and more software update reliability (plus an IR blaster too!)

I have serious doubts about the Pie update to the V20. I think that if their launch was at 2.016, September, mean be more 'updatable' than others aged same.

Here's how an untampered BCK-5200 battery charging kit looks like. Note the translucent plastic and the paper seal used to pack the battery and the plastic battery case:
                              https://youtu.be/3eiNKhQeNO8
Right now, even battery charging kits have tampered/fake batteries that are not in their official plastic packaging and paper seal.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2019You mean it costs twice more than a fake oem battery. Yo... moreNo. I actually based my pricing on my purchase of the official external battery charging accessory [BCK 5200] which used to be available on ebay a year ago for $25, and comes with the official slow external charger and a sealed, genuine LG V20 OEM battery in the pack.

I bought 3 of those for the battery mainly, and so I got 3 additional OEM batteries for my V20 (and 3 external chargers). I bought the Powerbear 6500mAh for the V20 for $80 in a local seller (not Amazon.com). That makes it more than twice the price I paid for my OEM V20 batteries.

The OEM batteries have a different manufacturer: 'Donghwa Tocad Electronics' while the fake ones are manufactured by 'Yantai Bonsung Electronics'. Bought one of those fake ones for $7 each so I know how they differ from the genuine ones in terms of manufacturer's name, and most especially in terms of performance. The fake ones shut down the phone during peak or high processor loads even with 20-25% battery remaining and last only half as long from a full charge (battery percentage drops twice as fast). They look like real genuine, OEM batteries but don't perform as well. I don't know why others say they perdorm as well as OEM's but from my experience, they really don't and aren't worth it. Maybe others haven't tested these fake batteries under load (online gaming on LTE data which will cause unexpected shutdowns even at 20-25% battery remaining).

You think LG is still making fresh batteries for the V20? Not a chance. I'd reckon a large % out there for sale now are in fact fake. Reviews of disappointing performance/not holding a charge would suggest so, too. When LG stocked batteries on their website (guaranteed legit) they were $39.

It'... moreI actually returned one PowerBear extended battery for 'invalid battery' defect. It actually costs more than twice the OEM battery and has excellent return and refund policy. The build quality is actually the best among extended batteries (better than Zerolemon). Just because I purchased a defective product doesn't mean I have poor taste. In fact, I don't recommend purchase if there is no good return policy. Amazon has excellent return policy.

Your LOGIC is like that reviewers and websites that positively reviewed the FEW SAMSUNG Note 7 units that didn't have EXPLODING battery problem and all the users that chose to buy the exploding Note7 ALL HAD POOR TASTE. The PowerBear is far from an exploding battery but yes, it does have quality issues so buy only if you have an excellent return policy. Otherwise, buy another extended battery brand (hyperion, perfine, etc.) I bought it over the others because it was the only one that had 2 year warranty and excellent return policy in my area. I would be at greater loss if I bought an extended battery I can't return and that doesn't have warranty.

It's just not that 25% of reviews are 1-star, if you tally it up 40% of reviews are 3 stars or less, and only 46% gave it 5 full stars. That's a terrible track record. I'm starting to get the vibe you have poor taste for well designed products, or a good taste for poorly designed products! You even support this powerbear garbage.

But if you get a good one that doesn't give you an 'invalid battery' error, you'll be rewarded. As an alternative, buy an extended battery case only (with no extended battery) like the Hyperion case, and place your spare OEM battery there so it will always be with you and you don't need to remember bringing it with the V20 always for marathon sessions.
