Re headphone jack: I'm not sure why, but when I wrote the above the headphone Jack was wonky as noted, Later, since this is a scoring studio we have lots of 3.5 dudes, lots, going all the way back into the 1980s. So I spent most of the day jacking..... Good side is I canned the oldest ones. On the way to the trash they visited the V60 and some of the newer ones with the pointed ends actually did work. But some didn't actually pop home, not even a hint of detent, but there was audio plus a DAC setup pop-up. These ones I wouldn't trust in a jiggling pocket, but some I would.

Bottom line: I suggest purchasing from an ATT factory store if at all possible. W hen the paperwork is ready for you to sign, don't, until you get them to try your phones in that unit. Let them do the work, but then you ask for some hands and ears on time to see what you think. Good luck!..

Now the Qs:

1) has anyone lived with the LG GS8? What's the screen clarity like and, if possible, has any non-journalistic person spent significant time with the Galaxy S10+ and compared it to the V60 or other larger-size LG?

This V60 will probably go back and I'll wait for the S10+ to flow again.

Maybe someday there'll be a competitive Pixel again, Motorola will hook up with AT&T, skins and bloat will become user-friendly, Amazon will sell affordable iZoom transporters, Samsung will package vBiots (virus killers) in every kitchen appliance and social distancing will.... Stay healthy folks!

yakattack, 02 May 2020OH-OH!!!! Just received the new LG V60 thinq 5g ATT. Yes i... moreWell that sucks...dealbreaker for sure

      OH-OH!!!!
Just received the new LG V60 thinq 5g ATT. Yes it does indeed have a headphone jack BUT (big Butt)
Headphone jack will not accept the plug for every 3.5 mm earbuds or headphones in this sound studio.

BIG BUMMER and please be aware that, until I uncover the true reason why, if you're planning on buying the LG v360 thinq 5G (hereafter referred to as the V60) you may want to be sure to check this schmozzle out for yourself.

Here is what I know or think at this moment:
      1) This V360 was assembled with an older (and not used much anymore in the USA), jack that requires a rounded, male connector on the headphones.

Given LG's spotty LG's spotty record for quality in all their products)

      2) For some reason LG has decided to use a connector that requires a 3.5mm male plug with a rounded tip, not the pointed ones which are more prevalent today in less expensive earbuds and headsets. The result is that a Tip/Sleeve (TS: 2 black banded insulators) or Tip/Ring/Sleeve (TRS: 3 black banded insulators), IF it has a more common pointed tip will not achieve a connection in the V60. You will immediately notice this because the male connector will not firmly seat (usually felt in your fingers) into the female connector on the phone.

********CAUTION:L Do not force the insertion (:)) cuz there's a good chance you'll compromise the connector inside the chassis, thus invalidting any warranty claim, much less other possible damages to circuitry or software.

Bottom line??? This is a deal-breaker for me and the unit is being returned. We cannot/don't want to use BT headsets or earbuds in this studio for various reasons. At convenient store like Target, Walmart, BestBuy, etc, I have not been able to find headsets or buds anymore with the rounded tip.

Am wondering if LG divided the production run into global zones where the older tip is still prevalent and another where the newer pointed tip rules. In any case CAVEAT EMPTOR. Too bad as there's a lot to like about the V60, PROVIDED LG has dealt with the heat sink issues of the V10. There's a hulk lot of power coursing around inside the V60.

Other thoughts about it: As has been stated many times by many people, the LG skin and other software leaves a lot to be desired. Its just plain cumbersome, adolescent, and just plain from tghe early days of Android. It needs to be reborn, or better yet offered as an option for the user to select or assasinate.

I don't care about the comparison between v40 and v60, I only care about comparing the V60 against the other flagships, and the lack of telephoto camera in V60 is wrong choice from LG.

Phones fan, 01 May 20202x optical zoom can only make 1 meter closer to your object... more On my tests for indoor lighting V60 to V40 I was able to rich the V40 to using the actual zoom lens by spot lighting the subject with a 2000 lumen flashlight to mimic outdoor lighting. Seeing as how the zoom lens does not have Amy kind of stabilization optical or otherwise it was extremely difficult to get good focus on V40 without being smeared by small movements. Even at it's best with no smearing though it was still substantially worse than the V60. I even tried giving it an advantage by putting the v60 in 64MP mode which truly needs lots of light to look good but given the use of my spotlighting the V60 won handily on both 64MP mode bright light & 16MP zoomed in.

LG choice of not including a telephoto in the V60 is a mistake, if you like LG don't defend wrong choices, that is what destroyed nokia, htc and will soon destroy LG.

Phones fan, 01 May 2020Me: No telephoto... Ok LG tell me more about the phone LG:... moreTelephoto is over rated. Crop zoom on V60 better than most optical zoom sensors due to the others lower resolution even at the minimum zoom. Juan Bagnell has you tube video addressing this very issue. My own tests between the V40 which has 12MP zoom camera & V60 which uses crop zoom show that the crop zoom of the V60 is far superior in normal room lighting to the optical zoom sensor in the V40.

Found that in really low light auto focus does not focus properly. Fortunately when you do the focus lock trick it open the option for manual focus even though you are in auto mode. The focus is a stepped focus with limited steps so best focus my be between 2 focus stop points but better that than being 2-3 steps out of focus which happens on really low light even with focus lock. Focus lock works great though in normal room lighting.

The specs for the LG V60 says sensor size is 1/1.72 indicating likely Samsung sensor unless spec is wrong for LG V60.

Would really love the v60 if it didn't keep telling me camera is in use by another website. I cleared all open browser tabs and closed all running apps, what will fix this?

Found a way to stop the focus hunting on auto 16MP 2X zoom. All you need to do is touch & hold the spot you want to focus on for about 2 seconds & the focus will lock on & you will start to get extremely consistent great pictures with lots of detail. This OS only needed at normal room light or dimmer. Bright environments it works ok without pressing & holding.

                                  Very sad case.

Audio quality is subjective hence I will will reserve my opinion which one sounds best on MY ears, V30 with B&O tuning or V40 with Meridian tuning. Big phones are not a problem for me but I hate the dreaded notch. It seems V40 is a good phone which does not last a day. I will wait some more time a may pick one if it reaches $150 here.

Correction 10X is more detailed in auto mode 16MP setting. It is actually most detailed but difficult to get good picture. Other attempts I did at 10X must have been manual mode.

This site tells about the characteristics of the Samsung 64MP sensor as well their 48MP & 108MP sensor.

                                      https://www.androidauthority.com/100mp-cameras-1016587/

Been doing some more research & experimentation on the rear main camera for this LG V60.

The sensor for main camera is a Samsung made device. It has 64 MP worth of light sensing ability but only 16 MP of color filtering.

Consequently pictures taken in average room light on the 64 MP setting can appear slightly hazy as well as when you blow the image up there are small blotchy color aberrations. This is interesting because when you use the sensor as a 16 MP unit & do 2X zoom you end up exactly same resolution as you would be with 2X zoom on the 64MP setting but the image is much clearer looking with more detail but noisier. Using the HEIF format reduces the noise & is even a little clearer than .jpg format.

The processing is obviously different even though the actual resolution is the same. The answer I believe lies in the software that in 2X zoom mode on 16 MP setting compensates for the quasi Bayer color filtering which the 64MP Samsung sensor uses but appearently the 64MP setting does not use. This may be due to the processing power required to do the computation is more than the 865 image precessor can handle at full 64 MP resolution but is more than capable at 16 MP.

Pictures taken outdoors in bright sun on the 64MP setting look great even blown up but indoors 2X zoom with 16MP setting look best as there is more detail in spite of noise.

HEIF format should only be used if viewing on a compatable device such as an Apple computer. Windows 10 there is issues with programs used to view HEIF format files.

In also finding that the color accuracy is a little hit & miss between the different sensors & settings for the main sensor. The ultra wide angle 13MP in normal room light seems to have best color accuracy. The main sensor in 64 MP mode can tend to turn blue green into a pure blue. This is also true in 16MP mode as well. Also in 16MP mode 2X zoom both focus & color temperature is constantly hunting in auto mode. This makes it hard to get a truely great photo. Sometimes you have to take several to get a really good photo. This may be due to the 865 image processor being strained as it is trying to compensate for aberrations that would be caused by the quasi Bayer color filters which at times it actually does great at. Note, this hunting does not occur 16MP 1X zoom mode nor does it occur in the 64MP mode at any zoom level. Some of the color temperature hunting may be due to my LED lighting in my room but the focus hunting needs to be fixed in software. Even with all this jankyness of the auto 16MP 2X zoom mode it still provides the most detailed photos of all.

Going to manual mode actually does not help get a more detailed photo, if fact it is generally worse in detail but at least you can control many aspects that can result in a better overall picture provided you don't try pixel peeping. Going to 10X zoom in any resolution makes less detailed pictures that 2X auto 16MP mode in normal room light. A 2X picture blown up to 10X after the fact has way more detail than a 10X picture on the V60.
