I switch between the Velvet 5g (Canadian) and Iphone 11. I also use an A70 for casual browsing and kids videos (for my kids), since android 11, the Velvet 5G lags and minor hiccups. Battery isn't great but its definitely not awful. I use Velvet around the house and when I'm weekending, and media consumption (youtube, netflix) the LG 3D sound engine is no slouch, puts other phones in our house to shame. Sounds good enough for Youtube and Netflixing. Screen brightness is great for out on the deck, listening to music and reading. The Poled screen is nice enough, at 6.8" one handed use doesn't bother my large hands unless I'm tackled by a toddler, then my phone takes a tumble. The Iphone 11 definitely feels more secure for a work phone (handling drops better than a curved screen, both in cases).. Another point is protective cases for the Velvet are sort of lacking. No options for Otterbox defender, lifeproof, or Spigen other than that really slim one off amazon. Ended up using some aluminium one off Amazon. I upgraded from the Lg G6 to this Velvet 5G so its nothing but better. Briefly used the Samsung S10 but it was too small/differenty for someone who used more LG phones than Samsung. The Velvet is decently priced for a MID RANGE PHONE, which it is. Mid range 5g capable phone, priced as such. Its a good phone 7/10 only thing i would change is higher screen refresh rate, and some slight camera adjustments.

Not gonna lie. This phone has given me more issues in 3 months than my Huawei P20 lite did in 2 years.

Firstly - the baterry life is not it. I go to work with phone on 100% and by late afternoon it's below 20%. Battery saver helps but it's still not impressive.

Secondly - I've had issues with my alarm clock app. Within the first week I experienced this glitch where the alarm would go off but I'd have to go INTO THE APP to hit snooze or dismiss. Right now, I'm dealing with a bizarre thing where the timer won't work - I hit stop or resume and nothing happens. I hit +10 mins and it takes 10mins away? Into the NEGATIVE. Like.. what? (don't know if its possible but I have a screen recording of this that I can share so you can see what I mean)

Lastly (for now) - my gallery is SO SLOW to load. I just went and tested and it took EIGHTEEN SECONDS to load all of my albums onto the screen. I have lots of photos, but that cannot be an excuse for a smartphone to have trouble loading everything. I never had the same issues with my Huawei P20 lite.

Don't know if this is everyone's experience, but my mom got the same phone as I did and she also has some gripes.

    Beautiful phone though.

Just bought it yesterday. Great phone, so sleek and beautiful, gorgeous display, excellent battery life - 7-8 hours SoT, rich sound. Maybe camera isn't class leading, but it's okay for me.

Just found this - my perfect phone - seems like flagship at less than half the price. It has everything I want. However, I just discovered that LG have stopped making phones...!
I wonder why , maybe LG thought that if this phone can't beat the competition and dominate the market, then there's nothing more we can do.

My wife and I have had 4 of these LG Velvet 5G phones. 2 originals and 2 replacements and I'll be going for my 5th. All of a sudden, they start to heat up during the charging process and when using and it drains the battery very quickly. T-Mobile has been nice in sending us replacements but now I'm afraid they will start a fire....

I ordered a V50 new unlocked(Korean). Happen to find it on Amazon(Singapore) after a lot of searching and messaging to sellers. Though refurbished ones are available everywhere.

I also use the peaking feature a lot when using manual control. Very helpful in Astrophotography too.
Just to show the power of LG devices(V series/ G series/ Velvet),
I shot this astrophotography and tried to capture meteors from LG V30 via manual mode(Open Camera):

The V50 still retain the focus peaking feature, so it's very useful to see which subject is in focus or not. It can even shoot 4K60fps video from the ultrawide camera, something that even its successor, the V60, can't do. That said, the Xperia 1 ii does have 20fps burst shooting mode. Also, it has a separate Photo Pro app for total manual control.

Juan Bagnell made a video comparing the camera performance between the V50 and the Xperia 1 (https://youtu.be/BXlABW3j-Eg) and also the V60 and the Xperia 1 ii (https://youtu.be/4vQe3ui08sA). Definitely worth checking out.

I checked Sony 1 ii is praised a lot. But still inclined towards V50.
My main requirement is the camera. I'm impressed with LG V30 and as I mostly control manual mode I'm able to shoot better pictures. Since you are using Velvet and V50 both I was wondering if it is okay to go with V50 now or shall I move on to Sony 1 ii or some other brand. Don't mind for asking queries as I'm looking for first hand information instead of relying on reviews. 😊

That said though, the latest gaming phones from ASUS and Xiaomi now returns the headphone jack.

If I care about OS update on a midrange phone, I'd go for Samsung phones. The latest A52 and A72 does look like a good midrange phone.
