RishiGuru, 03 Jun 2021My DAP days are long gone. The last one I had was FiiO X5 (... moreWow, Thats was cool device. My friend bought that, I think Gen was 3rd back in 2017. It was a master piece. I was so impressed by the device that played Trance that good. But, just asking if you have listen to Tab S7 sound. I guess, you ignored rest of conversations :D .. It is okey. I was hoping if you can light the samsung AKG tuned mobiles and tabs audio abilities and which is better. I know, I will not have any option but to purchase a new device. Thanks in advance.

But since 2015, I got hold of Vivo X5Max smartphone and my interest on bulky DAPs slowly faded away. The X5Max was sublime as it arrived with ESS ES9018K2M (DAC) with custom ESS ES9601K (I/V Converter). On the final stage it had a Texas Instruments OPA1612 op-amp as headphone amplifier. The same company (ESS) was responsible for LG's QuadDAC two years later. X5Max immediately soared to heights in terms of sound quality over headphones which I previously thought was impossible to attain in a phone.
So now I had a smartphone, a multipurpose device which I can carry anywhere, take calls, send SMS, do all kind of stuffs over WiFi & mobile data, download unlimited apps, watch movies and then played music over headphones which is 99% there in terms of sound quality to my beloved FiiO X5.
Hence my DAP sat idle accumulating dust, and my job which requires frequent travelling did not help the situation either. The Vivo X5Max became my new friend. A trusty old friend which lives to this day and provides audio nirvana when ever required.

RishiGuru, 27 May 2021First, thanks for such detailed battery performance test un... moreYa, G7+ feels a bit narrow but for me it serves my requirements. I do a lot of quick mails on the go. It gives me more screen to read the text in single scroll like playlists, mails, attachments, files etc.
As we discussed earlier about the sound signatures of different models. Your in-depth knowledge about sound cards is outstanding. Before our discussion, I just had basic knowledge only. I was not that good in Terminology and hardware name. Now, I think I have idea about different brand sound hardware and customisations. If i had to change my taste which happens very rare, I have Sony Hi-Res audo player A105 which has best class output. In some instances, better then G7+ but that player's battery life is very low. I can listen 4 hrs max at full charge. All Audio signatures like B&O, meridian, Marshall, Shure etc have their own quality but can be replaced or ignored by this player (I didn't mean to hurt you).
Let me tell you a secret, ...... I am planning to buy upcoming S21 FE. It is looking quite promising and support AKG sound signatures. I hope they implement same sound as Tab S7. I like the dolby Atmos on top of it. They are very good in speaker and earphones. I didn't expect that Tab S7 sounds this good but yes, they are very good with original Samsung dongle. Just a few points above Velvet and a few points below to G7+. And yes, that dongle makes a huge difference. Other brand dongle didn't come close. Let me know if you have tried any dedicated audio player. Thanks for your support and information. Always enjoyed your presentation.

Muzik, 27 May 2021I agree on LG price drop part. They drop the price like a z... moreFirst, thanks for such detailed battery performance test under different scenarios. I appreciate your effort of writing in such detail. Makes every use case scenarios very clear.
It's true prices of LG flagships fall like stone. The LG G7+ was maybe launched at INR 40K in India but Flipkart were selling them brand new for just INR 15.5K during Mar, 2020 sale. I bought one, brand new sealed pack with accessories like braided cabled headphones, wall charger & USB cable. No accessory was missing in the box. However by that time I already had two LG V30+ and I liked that phone more than G7+. You may call it my personal preference. A week after sold the G7+ to one of my friends. Anyway I was quite impressed with G7+, the LCD display was awesome, even though a bit narrow for my liking.
The Sabre ES9218P audio chip better know as LG's Quad DAC was a custom design made by ESS for LG. The QuadDAC was designed & built by ESS in accordance to LG's requirement in having the option to tweak at hardware level to attain desired sound signature by sound tuning houses. Different types a digital filters can be applied and custom discrete circuitry can be implemented along the input stage of QuadDAC.
This is where famous audio houses like Bang & Olufsen (B&O) and Meridian Audio comes into picture. LG then made partnership with these famous tuning houses so as to custom tune QuadDAC in the phone's hardware level and attain their signature sound. This led the same QuadDAC to have drastically different sound signatures depending upon who tuned it. Look no further than B&O tuned LG V30+ & Meridian tuned LG G8X. Same high fidelity sound with sound signatures that are poles apart. So V30+ and G8X have a certain flavor in the sound, which are distinct and I love both. G7+ was tuned by LG, so it had different sound signature, though very close to B&O.
The LG V60 had ES9219, which is knocked down version of the legendary ES9218P, with no custom tuning option and reduced BOM cost. ES9218P was the real QuadDAC powering G6, V30, G7, V35, V40, G8, V50, V50S, G8X devices.
Regarding the deal between LG India & Walmart backed Flipkart and how insane low prices they can offer on LG devices, its all down to money. It is of no secret LG India's annual sales were very poor if Flipkart does not comes to rescue. Now coming down to core business, from Flipkart side they want a sell a INR 70K flagship mobile for INR 20K during sale period which will garner huge media attention and pull a lot of prospective buyers. But any healthy and profit making mobile phone manufacturer will not do this as it will devalue its brand image. So Samsung, Apple and even Chinese manufacturers like Vivo, Oppo will not do it.
So Flipkart targets LG, as it a very good manufacturer with product quality as good as Samsung but in eternal loss making cycles. During the Oct, 2020 Diwali sale Flipkart wrote cheques of crores of rupees to LG India to start LG G8X production on full scale in their Vietnam factory. On the 1st sale of Flipkart Big Billion Days on 16th Oct, 2020 Flipkart sold whopping 1.50 lakhs units of G8X at insane INR 20K and made business of INR 350 crores within the 12 hrs of sale. Provided G8X sale was such a huge hit and was available in Flipkart till this month, I will not be surprised if that that model only did some INR 2000 crore business in India. In the end both parties made healthy profit and created a very special relationship.
Off topic, recently I got hold of a budget LG K42 @ INR 7200. I am so impressed. If you judge a phone by user experience & in hand feel rather than just raw performance, the K42 delivers. This is where similarly priced budget Chinese phones falls behind.

RishiGuru, 26 May 2021I don't know... LG prices drop like hell.
In Jan 2... moreI agree on LG price drop part. They drop the price like a zero value. Same happened with me also. I brought LG G7+ Thinq at the price on 40K during launch. Later, it dropped to 28K after 8-9 months. To be very true, I didn't mind price dropping and never regret the purchase. I got what i wanted at that time. I dont know whats the deal between Flipkart and LG regarding price but one thing is sure that they remove many things when price down. Like 28K G7+ didn't came with Headphone and 7/10 people who had purchased later were facing screen bleeding or low battery issues. I think they sold returned products after repacking.
3.5 mm jack wont make any difference as it lacks on hardware part (Quad DAC) is well. It has just average sound. Even Velvet have better sound than this.
Battery part is also count as just average. I experienced some positive and negative points.
+ve:
1. I continuously opened the camera app for almost 4 hours as i was trying to capture bird movements. It was earlier 98% after shoot it was 41% which is good according to me.
2. I got 4-5 hours of Freefire in mid graphics.
3. I watched continues movies while doing multitasking (Gmail/yahoo etc) for 6 hrs almost and battery status was 81% to 9% which is good.
4. I tried to run back up from G-Drive which took almost 5 hrs and battery drains from 66% to 12%.
-Ve:
1. While watching movies from Netflix with Bluetooth, It drains from 91% to 9% in just one movie.
2. Call time is not great. I noticed after a multiple calls that on an average of 1 hr talk, It consumes 15% of the battery.
3. Google maps (Navigation) consumes most battery 2.5 hrs and it went down from 99% to 32%.
4. Dual screen consumes much more battery than I expected. Didn't have data but I just realised that.
After 5 days, My bro came and collected his gift. :D I dont have this mobile anymore.
But still, I am quite satisfied for 30K price.

Muzik, 25 May 2021250$?? You mean INR 20000 ... Man.. this mobile is not that... moreI don't know... LG prices drop like hell.
In Jan 2019, I bought a brand new LG V30+ @ INR 11.7K ($156) from Flipkart without exchange. That phone was launched in Jan, 2018 for INR 45K ($600).
In Oct 2020, I bought a brand new LG G8X with Dual Screen case slapped in for INR 18K ($245) from the same online retailer. This phone was launched in India, Jan 2020 for INR 50K ($640). In both above cases I received 10% flat instant discount with card offers.
LG Wing was launched in Oct, 2020 (India) for INR 70K. The price was set higher due to innovative design concept, which never got to masses until recent monumental price drop to INR 30K. But the actual BOM cost of the device is maybe around INR 15K max. So they can sell Wing for INR 25K and still retain a healthy INR 10K profit, 50:50 distributed between LG & Flipkart. I am not considering and development cost of the device, as LG mobile division is closing down. LG just want to clear the hardware stockpile with a little profit margin.
But I don't think this phone will ever drop below the INR 25K price point. That's why I said if it gets an insane price drop of INR 20K, I am going to break my mental barrier of having a phone without audio jack and buy one instead. :)
By the way ... how is the battery backup of the LG Wing? Does it take you through a day with normal use? Or do you need to charge twice a day? Finding a lot of negative comments regarding battery backup on Youtube. Thanks in advance!!!

Muzik, 27 Apr 2021Hi Arnold, Thanks for the suggestion. I also want to purcha... moreI don't think we will have the LG V60 available in India with the company shutting down the smartphone business. LG is just clearing the stock they have now.
I would have gone for LG Wing, but this is their 1st Gen concept available for the masses. Lot of rough edges like the LG V50 with the first implementation of Dual Screen. The 2nd generation Dual Screen's like in LG G8X is so much improved with tonnes of user feedback from the 1st Gen V50. Same goes for Wing concept, but alas we will never see it.
Lack of proper audio jack also compounds this issue, however if the price in India falls down to an insane $250 I may get one.

RishiGuru, 23 Apr 2021You are most welcome. If you don't like Chinese pho... moreYes, I mentioned in my previous comments thay may be I will go for Asus Rog 5. There is no doubt that it will be a true upgrade with G7+. I still have doubts about sound quality compare to LG because LG DAC used 32bit/192k harware system and Rog 5 used 24bit. It will take time and hard efforts to beat LG in sound department. But sure, once 256GB variant available in India, i will go for it. And rumors says ZenFone 8 will be packed with 32bit audio chip. Lets see what will come in future. I can wait because if this info is ture, it is worth waiting for. Addiing to that, Rog 5 is beast in every expect.

Muzik, 21 Apr 2021I totally agree with your points. Yes, Velvet can slay all ... moreYou are most welcome.
If you don't like Chinese phones, you may have a look at Asus ROG Phone 5. It has got real fire power when it comes to headphone audio with a proper 3.5mm audio jack. This is what GSMArena has to say:
"Fans rejoice, after a hiatus on the ROG Phone 3, the on-board 3.5mm jack has made a triumphant return to the ROG Phone 5! And what a return indeed - it is hooked up to an ESS SABRE ES9280AC Pro DAC with HyperStream II QUAD DAC™ technology and a built-in Class G ESS Sabre Headphone amplifier.
The Class G Headphone amplifier automatically detects load impedance between 8 to 1000 Ohms. Enabling lower THD and 2Vrms in output for headphones with higher impedance than 50 Ohm. You can refer to the table for a breakdown.
The Class G ESS Sabre Headphone amplifier promises best-in-class signal-to-noise performance of 130db. And is backed-up by a patented Time Domain Jitter Eliminator that can reach a dynamic range of 122dB.
The ROG Phone 5 is also Hi-Res Audio (HRA) certified and when paired with a High-Res Audio certified output device can play back audio files rated at 24-bit/96kHz or 24-bit/192kH."
