upgrade to 2.1 for backflip (this has support for multitouch and ext4 too)

The 2.1 upgrade should of been on the phone back in March. That being said; I would have saved my money and got the Milestone2 outright. the phone is too slow; battery life is horrible

Hiall, grreat phone wid great features. Undoubtedly people always want all in one and this phone has all major thing in it.I,ve one question to ask. Please let me know I want to use my backflip with the wifi where proxy authentication take place. My firmware is ANdroid 1.5 (cupcake) but there is no option to configure proxy settings in wifi configuration. Is there any app to install for proxy settings?

you need to download a free app called bluetooth file transfer. then you can transfer,for some reason there is no native app. i will also advise android manager app for tethering wifi to your PC. 2 more very interesting app - google skymap-it takes u through night sky, giving hazar funda on stars. uber cool. second, talk to me - must have - u speak in english a phrase, it speaks out in all languages. very handy. i tried 'f**k' to hindi...it said 'bhad me jao' :) ...
i am also very curious about bad performance reviews. honestly i haven't found any major faults, except one. sometimes some app, specially email app, crashes saying android process failed. but its rare and not really a nuisance.
i am also devastated that 2.1 isnt coming to india. so started some research to figure if putting custom rom is worth trouble & warranty loss. whats i found can be summarized as this (i am not a tech geek, just a business user, so may not be fully comprehensive) -
- 2.1 claims to be far zippier. but didnt found any significant difference on my colleagues wildfire
- it has good voice control. lots of things can be done on voice. cool feature.
- 1 more home screens than backflips...no big deal!!!
- google earth is available on 2.1. will check this on monday to see if this is cool.
- multiple gmail accounts consolidation...no big deal
- more app on market...true. however there are enough that run on 1.5
- will check more.

Hi All Backflip users, I am planning to buy this mobile, so I need some advice from you guys on below points:
1) How is the signal reception?
2) How is the audio quality while speaking in a call? and can we record our conversation?
3) How is the music player, on both speakers and on headset?
4) What about multimedia player for watching videos, like movies or video songs etc..
5) How is the camera for pics and video recording?
6) Any problems in using Bluetooth, Wifi or browser?
7) what about the keypad? is it safe, as it is exposed outside all the time?
8) How is the keypad to use?
I have seen many people complaining about no Update for this mobile, but I am least bothered about that if above things work fine..But it would be helpfull if someone lets me know what is the benefit of upgrading the android version? and so what are we loosing by not having any upgrade on this mobile?
I am planning to buy BACKFLIP or NOKIA C6...plz guys help me decide which one is better according to my questions above. :-)

because here 80% users are thinking this is bad phone & then also u have bought it
& asking when ill it be update
there is no adnroid update for indian users, because motorola think that indian users are doesnt exist :)

There are so many things wrong now I'm not even going to begin to list them. STAY AWAY!!! I just bought an older phone off e-bay until my contract is up.

Motorola announced that the Android 2.1 update for the Backflip is now available . Backflip owners can head to
http://www.moto.ly/BACKFLIP21
for instruction on how to update their phones.
Motorola says thr upate should take about 40 minutes.

I am Vincent, and I am from INDIA as well, mor... moreThe phone looks different & stylish. its not a typical candybar. it also has a good heft & size is right. e.g. galaxy s / milestone xt / desire look & feel is too big & showy(personal opinion).
display is quite good, certainly better than wildfire (my colleague has one). sunlight visibility is not great but that you cant do anything, unless you have superamoled.
it doesnt have blur but UI is clean. sound quality is good with headphone. for even better sound, invest in some good headphone. player UI is basic, i.e. no equaliser. but you can download a player from market. i found 3, 1 free. video havent checked yet.
keyboard is quite useful. i am already addicted to it. but be warned, it is not for sms fiends. it comes with a motonav built in. this has 650 indian city map. very useful.i found backtrack also very useful while surfing in landscape mode.
i am a business user. so found corporate emailset up very easy. quickoffice is quite good for viewing attachments. it opens everything.
camera is quite good. video capture is ok, no HD and all. box contains standard stuff, charger, USB cable & 2 Gb card.
cons is of course android 1.5. battery lasts for about 1.5 day with heavy usage. i out the battery in power saver mode. performance sometime becomes slow because android automatically opens hazar apps. so u have to download advanced task killer first thing & periodically kill the apps. it also saves battery
i bought it for 16800 in mobile store. i actually wanted to buy quench but liked the design very much, so bought this. if it had 2.1 i would close my eyes & recommend.

I'm from brazil, I have this phone, my battery run for five days, for me it's a perfect phone to talk, browser on internet, send messages, take pictures, and a lots of another things, I don't know why, but I see much people saying that the battery is not so good, but for me it's very good, maybe it's just a lucky question.

advantages: beautiful looks, sound is good in headfone...keypad is beautiful..backtrack is good for show off but hardly it make any sense...camera is very good...user friendly...
disadvantages: battery drains very fastly if ur uskin net...internal memory is very less (150mb approx)...means u can install android applications till 150mb...un-upgradable OS (most of the places)...bluetooth transfering system is not so good...video callin supported but via software...
ranking according to me 7/10...

1)its music, video (audio and video quality in speakers and headset)
2)camera (pics and Video),
3)Office documents(word, pdf, ppt, excell docs), does it show docs like Nokia E63 or E71 or E72??
4)signal reception
5)What do we get in the box
6)Battery backup
