Just bought this today from the Carphonewarehouse.
So far this is an amazing handset. screen is super clear and the sensitivity and response of the capacative screen is excellent.
The upgrade to 2.2 Froyo is due for summer in 2011 for Europe (as stated on Motorola's site).
The keyboard in landscape is very accurate and I have not noticed any lag.
Nice too see that psx4droid works well with this.

Help, 23 Jan 2011Hey where is the speaker? I can't see it from the picture. In normal speaker mode the call is heard through the speaker on the top front of the phone just above the Motorola logo, also there is another speaker on the rear of the phone on the bottom just below the sliding catch for the rear cover, when playing music without the headphones then the sound is emitted through both of the speakers on this set that i have mentioned.

Overall very nice, but there is little bug in it, you can't disable vibration of home/menu/search buttons.Battery time is also good.

Motorola Defy Coming to India on Jan 24
Those who were waiting for the arrival of the Motorola Defy to India can breathe with ease as the smartphone is set to be hitting the stores in January 24. Recall that it is already available in US (via T-Mobile), Europe and Australia.
The handset has an amazing durability and is unique in its type. The Motorola DEFY is a wear-resistant, water and dust resistant Android smartphone designed to withstand the harshest conditions.
The phone will be perfect for those who would use it in extreme, or close to the extreme conditions.
As regards to its technical characteristics the smartphone runs Android 2.1 , though Motorola has officially promised to release a Android 2.2 Froyo update for the handset in the second quarter of the year. The Defy is equipped with a 3.7-inch (480h854 pixels) screen, protected by Gorilla Glass , a 800 MHz processor , 5 megapixel camera, 2 GB memory and 512 MB of RAM. Also, note the presence of GPS and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
The Motorola Defy will be having a price of Rs 20,000 ($438) or lower price

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2011Can I install launcher pro to replace moto blur in this phone? You can install launcher pro but the only way to completely remove motoblur is flashing a deblured ROM. You can easily find guides to do that on the XDA-Developers forum.

Today (20 Jan 2011) here in the UK, I we just got prompted for a system upgrade on our Vodafone DEFY. Alas, it wasn't 2.2 (Froyo) but Blur. Not sure what has changed. Great phone either way, although yesterday one of the earpieces on the headset fell apart, so treat yours carefully as it's not as well built at the phone - which has by the way survived two intentional dunkings in a pint of beer! (Best Ale too!)
Cheers!

Pros
- Good battery life, I managed to get 2.5days out of a full charge.*
*You'll need to download apps to toggle energy sapping features like wifi, bluetooth, 3G, screen brightness to squeeze out the batt life.
- Good looking SMART phone that is waterproof, comes with GORILLA glass so no screen protectors required.
- Compact design, it looks smaller in real-life.
- Very good audio quality.
Cons
- Android 2.1 on Defy does seem to be unstable at times. User created folders sometimes get renamed to Folder for apparently no reason.
- UI slows down sometimes even with no active apps running in the background.
- Waterproofing cap on 3.5mm jack will lose water-seal with frequent usage.

I've owned mainly Motorolas in my time, and this one by far has been the best one I've owned.
Very lightweight and comfortable to carry, easy and quick operation, plus how many phones are waterproof? Battery life on it has surprised me, it has lasted far more than my previous android phones, I guess it all depends on knowing what to keep running and what to turn off. The camera I think takes great photos, speaker gives out clean and clear sound.
I originally was going to wait on the Cliq 2, but to be honest, I don't think the Cliq 2 will be as battery efficient as this one (at least in my opinion).
You won't go wrong with this phone!
Pros: durable, 3G, long battery life, music, GPS, fun games, volume level, great screen, touch screen, easy to use, great web browsing, great camera, WiFi, great for texting, useful apps, speakerphone, waterproof

I am very happy with my Defy. I read a ton of reviews, both here and on the techie sites and the overwhelming majority of them were highly positive, and now I see why. This is a great smartphone. The quality of the phone, both functionally and physically is outstanding, which over the years I've come to expect from Motorola anyways, but they hit the nail on the head with this one. The phone is fast, with rarely any lag. Reception has been very good overall. Screen quality is excellent. I like Motoblur and the home screen set up (7 screens) and how you can customize them is great. Once you learn how to navigate (there is a learning curve, as with any smartphone) around the phone, it makes more and more sense and is easy to use. I've read a few reviews saying you can't remove things from the home screens etc., but they are not right. I've been able to move, remove, and add anything I've wanted and have totally tricked out the screens with apps and widgets how I like them... a screen for social networking, a communications screen, a game screen, a news screen etc...the possibilities are endless. Battery life has been good, but if you're looking to play games 24/7 bring the charger. It will easily make it through the day for most people using it for networking, emails, etc. The camera is very good for a mobile phone, takes nice pics if the sun isn't in your face. Too many people expect their mobile's camera to perform like a dedicated camera, which isn't fair, it's a feature on... (read more)

Too many people expect their mobile's camera to perform like a dedicated camera, which isn't fair, it's a feature on your phone, not a digital SLR. lol. For a mobile, it takes very clear high quality pics in most circumstances. It's light, but not so light that it feels cheap. I like the size of it. It's considerably smaller then an IPhone (screen is almost exactly the same size, a bit taller, a bit narrower), and fits in a shirt pocket or side pocket on carpenter pants nicely. I could go on all day about this phone, I'm very impressed with it. (hide)

I have noticed that my Defy feels as cool as a cucumber when on charge so there is no overheating issue here to cause any expansion and possable screen crack with my handset, i mention this because there has been two forum posts here each stating that their Defy screen did crack during charging of the handset.
