nicksti, 15 Aug 2010Droids turn into a brick if you try to hack them is a misle... moreGee...I hope I didn't ruffle your feathers....Galaxy phones have progressed from release to release, can the same be said with the Razors, and what will prob be the same with the Droid? -- answer nope. Had a Razor, and it was by far the worst phone I ever had other than the cool aluminum shell, and I had 3 motorolas going back to the original Motorola Razor predecessor in 2000... Droid 1 is basically the same as Droid 2 except for the 1G chip, Android 2.2, a lil better camera, and a redesign of the original droid.....however, it's still the same. This Galaxy version is a huge leap from the prior versions, Super Amoled, 4 variations -- each different from the other, improved CPU, improved touch screen, better download speed, better call clarity, and to be honest the menus and functions were a lot more user friendly and logical to navigate than the Droids. Spent 20 mins in the store playing with Droid X and 2 and it was like a confused video game. And, this is suppose to be a business phone?

Yes you are correct, I was referring the the Droid X, with Droid 1 and 2, it's even less screen space than 3.7. So it's more like a 3.3 screen....no?

I've owned many cell phones and returned many. My preference is Samsung, HTC, Nokia, and LG. I've owned Motorolas and the fore mentioned, and not every Samsung or HTC was a winner, as there were problems and lemons in the mix. However, the key factors that keep me coming back to Samsung, HTC, and Nokia, are their cutting edge technology, many great phone variations for all lifestyles and usage, and their willingness to take chances with technologies that really bring out the best in phones. Sorty, but Motorola plays it too safe, and this is probably why their company didn't grow within the last 5 years before the Android and Droid sales. They even played it safe with their Droids. Really no reason to release Droid 2 if they didn't make marked improvements. They could have used Amoled screen tech but didn't. Could've made the screen 4 inches, or improved on their menus and that MotoBlur...they didn't.

The Bricking of Motorolas is not inaccurate, they have a program installed that will brick the phone if you make what they consider advanced alterations. If you purchase the phone and you own it, then i guess you really should be able to do anything that you want with it, unless your are stealing bandwidth and services which is wrong...otherwise why do this..am i right? So if I own the phone, I should be able to improve on it as long as I'm not stealing.... no?

Bottomline, you like Motorola, I'm not wild about them and their conservative approach with their cells. I will always consider all phones, but if I think the technology or advancement is not up to par i will pass. If I see product and marketing practices which can be deemed monopolistic, or against consumer rights to own and to decide freely, I will also pass.

I loved the Iphone when it came out, but refused to buy one because of the marketing practices of Apple. So I passed. I won't buy a phone that prevents me from enjoying my adult toy. Why should i have to buy a whole new phone just to double my GBs? Droids turning into bricks is another example of what's not right with technology.

Sorry, but Galaxy S phones are the face of cell phones future for the next 12-18 months. Verizon even signed up, but they're probably delaying release until they move their Droid phones first, and for a little fine tuning of the S. Probably installing 4g, and Android 2.2. Maybe a little fine tuning of the GPS as well.

Again, as least with the Samsung Galaxy franchise, each model seems to have significant technological and physical differences from their prior models. Keeps consumers on their toes and their interest alive.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2010Droids that turn into bricks if you try to hack them....thi... moreDroids turn into a brick if you try to hack them is a misleading statement. The bootloader is encrypted so you cannot use custom roms but any device can be bricked if you hack it incorrectly.

The screen on the Droid and Droid 2 is 3.7 but if you were talking about the Droid X 4.3" screen feeling like a 4 because of buttons underneath then you are just a hater. Your same Galaxy S has a huge D pad under the screen and I do not hear you criticizing that. There are a bunch of Galaxy phones by Samsung and I do not here you knocking Samsung for that like you did with the RAZR comment.

Motorola is finally in the pack with technology. You also do not have to wait as long as some other manufacturers for the Android updates.

Droids that turn into bricks if you try to hack them....this in addition to Verizon's pinch every penny from their customers policy where you have to pay for everything...and Motorola is still a really subpar cell phone maker in terms of cutting edge technology...always behind the curve...how many variations are we going to see of the Droids...hope not as many as the Razors which means we'll see about 20...at least Samsung manufactors the Amoled technology which is far superior to TFT...what is Mototola waiting for, Super LED to come out?....4.3 inch screen, but it's so crowded that in reality, it really is a 4 inch screen, the extra butttons take up the space...EVOs truly have the biggetst screens, not Droid X.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2010For this price you have galaxy S (samsung) is better in to ... moreSamsung Galaxy S phones just like every other Samsung phone is poorly built. They all feel cheap and plasticky. So The Galaxy line could never be better than this in many ways. Also Samsung touch wiz interface is poor also. Moto did nothing but add its own widgets to this phone yet people complain about it when you can just hide or remove the widgets. Samsung's menu looks like an iphone knock off.

It doesn't support GPS. It doesn't have GSM support. With a blackberry storm phone, it can support both type of network. Man, i wish company can make phones that support either or.

With the Motorola Droid X having
already been launched on Verizon in
the US, and the Droid 2 also round
the corner, a FrAndroid report has
revealed that the Droid X will likely
                                        hit France in November or
                                        December.
                                        The report also adds that,
subsequent to the Droid X release in
France, the Droid 2 will also be
introduced as Motorola Milestone 2 –
                                        with the name change apparently
falling in line with the fact that the
first QWERTY Droid was launched as
                                        Milestone in Europe.
In addition to Motorola’s launch of
the Droid X and Droid 2 handsets in
France, the release of the two
                                        handsets in other European markets
                                        – including UK, Germany, and Italy –
will also clearly be on the cards soon
                                        after.
It is also being speculated that in
case the Droid X and Milestone 2
mark their Europe debut in a few
months from now, the devices will
                                        most likely feature the newest
Android version – the Android 2.2
                                        Froyo.
In fact, with the ever since the build
                                        FRF84B was leaked with Root
                                        available, there have been
                                        indications that the much-awaited
                                        Android Froyo update will soon
                                        arrive on the Motorola Droid
                                        phones.
Going by an unofficial Verizon Tech
                                        Support site, which confirmed the
arrival of the Froyo update some
days back, the Classic Droid may
probably get Android Froyo as early
                                        as next week
