SMS Delivery Report is either enabled via operator flex (your operator might have choosen to disable this function for whatever reason) or can be enabled via hack. Another option for you is to go to the next Motorola service center and ask the guys to activate the feature for you...

Just bought this phone last weekend. the display and its speakers are excellent. however, i realise 1 problem which is i cannot download java applications from the my PC to the phone. The manual mentions that under the Java Settings, there is a Java App Loader path which allows java download from pc to phone but this path is missing in my E398. Could be a operator's issue, blocking this feature. this phone will be perfect if I can load Java games from the PC.

          Want It-
I dunno about synching with Outlook, since I dont use it. BUT... it synched perfectly with my PocketPC, and since both are Microsoft, i would assume that Outlook would work.

iTap varies in speed. If doing simple words, its very quick -- practically instantaneous. If you have a looong word (like "instantaneous" or a web adress) it might take about 0.5 to 1 second if you are at the end of the word. I can't compare it to the E365 since I've never used that phone.

          Canderous-
I happen to like the look of the phone's display/interface very much. Keep in mind, if you dont like the interface look, its COMPLETELY SKINNABLE, and comes with 3 built-in skins. As the phone gets more popular, more skills will probably become available. You can check out some interface screenshots here:

I dont think you can change the font, at least not without a hack. Perhaps see the white papers...?

          Leon-
I would not use the E398 simply as a speaker MP3 player. They do sound great, but battery life goes down a LOT when using the speakers. I listened to 1 full album (about 13-15 songs) on full volume and my battery was almost dead. Headphones will last you fine though. If you already have an iPod (aka iFad;) and your current phone is working fine, you may want to rethink getting the E398. Get it for a phone first, MP3 player/video games/instant messaging second. ;)

actually I just thought about something: NO RADIO!!!! I think that has changed my mind now, cos what are these transflash cards really? I'll have to fork out more money for another card when I have 256mb mmc for my gx30.

                DOES ANYONE THINK I'M CRAZY?????
I have a sharp gx30 and I'm thinking of selling it for this phone.
Although poorer camera and screen, I would buy this phone simply cos its smaller and I like the idea of it being a decent portable music player.
Are the speakers really worth it? I already have an ipod so I would only really use the speakers not headphones (gx30 is not so loud).

Hi, Canderous. The display is the best on the market. The fonts are very clear and nice to read. This phone is really impressive. And it is more beautiful in your hands than you see on pictures. In the snapshot, it looks bigger than its real size. Other great thing is that if you are at a noise place, you don't need to use the vibration, because you can feel the bass of ringtones sounds. Thanks Moto for E398!

hi i would like to know about the display of the phone...what i mean is whether the user interface is pleasing to the eye...The only thing i like about nokia is the font of the text.It is at least nice to read, unlike my C550 whose text is an eyesore.

i feel without a proper mpeg playback device, this phone just crippled itself... it may be good on sounds, but, a lot of future phones coming out with integrated windows media player running on win smartphone 2003. so motorola shouldn't cripple this phone to add value for it's buyers.

The price in Malaysia around RM1599 the most but if you subscribe with any postpaid line it will be around RM14++.

...like on all new Motorola phones SMS delivery report is controlled via flex. My E398 supports SMS Delivery Report.

MP4 files should be lower 64Kbps (Video + Audio) SQCIF (128x96) 7fps to GUARANTEE playback. A maximum of 15 fps is available at a bit rate of 48Kbps when the maximum size is 128x96. Also bare in mind that the E398 is a MUSIC device and you will not find any better GSM phone in the market place with embedded MP3 player. If I want to see a video I have my flat screen TV - it's not fun watching a video on a mobile device yet simply to the display dimensions ;)

Typical MPEG4 frame speeds are 5-10. 7fps is a resoanbly good speed for a mobile phone.

ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! the multimedia PDF guide stated that E398 can only display a maximum of 7 frames per second !!!!!!! That is like, totally crap fps!! So it's proven... the video player is nothing but a novelty item... This really brings down the grade of this phone.

Any one has any idea how smooth is the video playback? if the mpeg4 video playback is jerky on all videos we upload, then the video player is nothing but a novelty... anyone can verify this? If it's smooth, then it'll be kick ass!!
