hi everyone,
i've had this phone for 1 week now and i was wondering wat is the maximuum space that a t-flash memory card can hold in the motorola e398.

    This phone is excellent, the best phone I've ever had by far. MP3 Im listening to right now, with my new 256 flash card. Stereo quality for a phone, who would of thought! I have 32 songs on the flash and still plenty of memory. Yes there is some popping noise from the speakers sometimes but only when the menu is loading. What do you expect for a cell phone? There is nothing to complain about this phone! When they come out with the 512mb or 1g flash im investing! And the lights you can adjust when someone calls is a neat feature you can't get here in the states yet. Att or any of those carriers don't have these phones. Overall I give the phone a 10 for gizmo's and 9 for opperational things such as camera and menu loading. My phone works perfectly, MP3 works perfectly. I have No complaints, One of the best phones I've seen yet.

      Since you're expert in E398, could you please answer my questions ? :
      1. I get "error copying" message when transferring files to e398, then I must reformat T-Flash, how can I avoid this ?

      2. I'm able to put & play 40 mins 3gp video file in e398, but for mp4, it shows "file corrupted, delete?" msg.
      I've read from other posting that mp4 supported was 64kbps bitrate, 7 fps which isn't true since sample included in s/w are 183kbps bitrate and 24.39 fps. I've created similar mp4 but still, error msg shows up.

      3. Where should I put java apps? Is it .jar or .jad ? I put both in kjava folder but doesn't show up...

      4. I think this is a stupid question, is there any converter from .sis to .jar/jad? Or do you have jad/jar camcorder apps?

        i can't save all my mp3 files to sounds file some of them go to unfiled file so i cannot make my playlist.it needs longger time to charge the battery compare to other phones but it is still the best fone i have. is it okay if i upgrade the tfcard to 128mb?

            how do i get the removable drive in my computer? i have windows 98 and when i plug in the usb and connect it to the phone my computer can't detect it. what do i do? yes my settings is set to memory card in the phone in the usb settings under default connections. help me. please.

              Seeing the same questions over and over again on this forun gets very annoying sometimes...
              So, cause i got like 2 minutes lack of ocupation, im going to write this.
              The phone can only do video PLAYBACK !!! Video formats for video playback are .mp4 and .3gp, not all video files u got on your computer !!!! u cant play a mpeg3 with high frame rate on a phone, jeez.
              For those who have a problem with MPT, install motorola modem driver with add new hardware, search for more info on www.howardforums.com - i think this is the website...
              i really pray that the guys who have so much trouble with this phone will never buy a series 60 phone, thinks could get so complicated for them... hehe

                To yihtyng and niki

                Replying is somewhat stupid as you can't read. If you could read you would have seen the "SEARCH FIELD" and thought I wonder if anyone has had this problem. THE PHONE CAN ONLY PLAY MPEG4 AND 3GP VIDEO FORMAT FILES. If you think this is harsh you’re probably right. But I answer this question all the time so use search its there for a reason.

                Just plug it in and windows (XP, server 2003 and maybe 2000) should detect it automatically. Make sure yours truly have the USB setting set to memory card. If you don’t have this setting, use the search option and look for upgrading firmware.

                  to put mp3 in the phone do i need to plug the usb cable in to the pc and first go to add new hardware in the control panel? then see if the removable drive is in my computer?

                        i'm having problem with E398..... i could transfer video to phone... but when i check. it's not in there.... i transferred to the video folder.... mpeg and .wmv i tried.. can't see it.... help pls

                          to DK: you can transfer mp3's to your phone memory either from the computer or from your tflash, but that is if you erase all stored ringtones and pictures from the phone memory since the shared memory is only 4mb, you can store only 1 song. Another way is to use the MPT to edit the song so it is short enough to use as a tone.

                            What about creating folders like for Mp3's or Misc. folders ? just folders in general on the phone or the card ... is this possible ?

                              You can copy MP3 from pc to phone. You can also transfer MP3 from trans to phone. It is true onl mp3's on phone can be used as tones. To move from Tflash to phone click on move> phone.

                              They will be the same after firemware upgrade. only dif is the cover colour.

                              This phone doesn't come standard with video record only play back (unless flash to v620 firmware). I suggest you get a easyer phone to use as you couldn't work out that there is a search field that would have answered this question. It also doesnt list video in camera features in the specs page for this phone.

                              When you have the phones USB function set to memory card and pluged into the computer via USB cable it will show up in My Computer as removable disk (next to floppy drive, cd drives). Not the mobile phone tools folder.

                              You can make albums (same thing as folders)to store photos in. This is the best phone for price going around by far.

                                    To any E398 user : can u create folders or customize folders on this phone ? are there any Major but Basic features missing in the E398 as compared to Nokia's or SE's (interface wise)?
                                    ur help n opinion is appreciated. planning on buying it in the next few dayz.
