i havent had had any problem whatsoever with the phone in 7 months of use. Battery life is 4 days without listening to mp3's and 2 days with listening 1-2 hour of mp3's per day.

hmm i would like to buy this phone but seems a lot of ppl complain about this phone .. so buy it or not to buy .. but this phone is not very expensive and has a lot of features.. hmm plz tell me wat i am going to do ... help

Err, juz where & how do I get this 96R software? Can it be downloaded from the internet?

Upgrade to 96R software with USB mass storage profile. After this, you won't need to use MPT for putting stuff on to t-flash card as the card appears as a removable drive when the phone is connected to the PC. You can later copy thinsg that you want from the card to the phone memory. I never had a problem after moving to 96R.

I think the Moto E398 is a great phone! But there are some ups & downs to it. I have been using this phone for about 5 months now & within that 5 months I have encountered many problems with it. Such problems is when I try connecting my Moto E398 to my pc with the USB cable. At first everything was alright. I could upload songs into my phone with ease. Soon afterthat, things became out of hand. The USB modem couldn't detect my phone and I couldn't upload mp3's even with the USB modem working! And error sometimes apears saying that the connection between the phone & pc has been disconnected when the USB cable is plugged into the pc & phone itself! Not only that, I have to create multiple profiles in my Mobile Phone Tools(MPT) in order to get it working.
Is there any other phone tools that I can use besides Mobile Phone Tools(MPT) ? Which can be downloaded from the internet? TQ

1st of all i can't deny that e398 is a very gd phone.. but i encounter several problems after using it for 6months, which is the reason why i'm changing my phone now.
i had problems with the pc suit, on most occasions it says 'device could not be found' and when its finally connected, it will lose its connection after awhile. the transferring of photos and mp3s is also almost impossible, i spent hours on it and nothing can be completed in de end. the program is simply not responding.
there are also problems with my speaker, it starts to produce irritating sounds whenever i on my mp3 or when my phone is ringing etc.
the phone also hangs when i'm making a call, sometimes when i have a call on hold, the phone will hang with the timer running, even the 'off' button doesn't help. i have to remove the battery and on the phone again. this is really a big problem for me as sometiems i have to make important calls, and when someone calls me on de 2nd line, i have to consider whether or not to ans, because theres 60% chance both calls will be cut off. and the phone will hang, making the other party not able to call back.. =(
i had problems charging the phone, (THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM) most of the time(90%) it shows up 'unable to charge' and sometimes it doesn't show anything at all.. and sometimes when its 'charging' or 'unable to charge', the backlight will not turn off. it stays lit for hours! this problem had caused me spending hours trying to charge it, if i dont do so, i cant use the phone! at 1st i suspect something was wrong with my charger, so i bought a new one.. but the same problem occurs.. it always shows up 'unable to charge' which i have no idea why its happening..
these problems may not happen to everyone, i'm just sharing my experience with e398, it really gives me some headach throughout this 6mths. but its really a great phone if these problems are non-existence. =)

Shane, thanks for clarifying. I hope Motorola read these postings abt video recording demand fr e398 users worldwide. Unlike that MP3/MP4 player which are Java s/w based, Camera (& video rec)isn't Java apps, it might be in h/w coded firmware and I guess video rec will require revising that firmware....

hey smudge,
relax, the trans flash card adaptor is used when you use card reader.( when you want to directly dload music /pics directly to the trans card) you place the trans flash card inside the adaptor.

my friend got sony K700i and man, he regretted it. it hangs a lot and i mean big time. I never regretted i got E 398. even without video recording, its still a great phone considering its price. will have to wait though for video recording upgrade

the design,features and performance are usually very excellent!!!!! but I found out that the connectivity of e398 does not have infrared..I'm very interested to buy it before, but now I'm not really sure...

I havnt got 97R firmware. but i know it doesnt have video recording. To get video recording on this phone you have to use the V620's firmware. (This will make the phone unable to reconize the trans flash).

I like the look of the e398 better then the k700i. Head to head this phone wins. Better price, more memory, better looking, comes with usb cable and software. The only things k700i has on the e398 is Infra Red (BT better then IR) and video. You can buy a radio head set for the e398 so they both have fm radio. So realy is it worth paying more for video recording?

I was transfering mp3 files to my card the other day and I think I over did it because the phone wouldn't boot up. I erased all the files but the phone still will not start. When I clicked on the drive properties(btw, I am using a card reader), I reformatted the card and defragmented it. After that, the card worked fine. Any of you guys tried doing this yourself? At least you dont have to go to the service center everytime something is wrong. Is there a way of defragmenting the phone?

Hi, Im just about to fork out for a new mobile but really can not decide between this E398 or the SE K700i. I like the fact K700i has video recorder & I have had quite a few people tell me not to go for a Motorola but Im really drawn to this E398 at the moment! Any advice on which to choose? I want a decent MP3 player (I understand this doesnt have FM Radio?) and a good quality camera. I'm only a poor student so can't afford to wait for the brand new nokias/sony ericssons that look fab that are gonna be released soon so any info or recommendations would be great. Im a bit pushed to decide now as have put my present phone on eBay and it will be sold tomorrow so need a replacement quick! Many thanks.

mallick go to setting ,intial set up and put yr vibe sync to off and your phone will not vibrate anymore but that feature is to make you feel the bass

I've read >>80% positive review from various site before decided to buy one. A bit laggy but quite satisfied with feature vs price comparison. Is there anybody who has upgraded to 097R? I heard it faster and able to record video?
