AnonD-721388, 09 Dec 2017I bought this phone from USA Amazon.com about 2 years ago. ... moreWhen I have time I shall search to see if it is safe to root my Moto G3rd Gen, XT1541, UK to the 7th version of the Android operating system & if possible the 8th version.
I would start by asking Motorola UK & Europe because they supply support for the UK:
I don't think that the Moto G3 gen is being sold anymore at least in the UK.
Moto G4 or G5 may be better value for money but they may not be water resistant to one metre (UK) for half an hour I think it is.
I think that you have made a mistake with the specifications:
Purchase: 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM instead of 1 GB RAM & 8GB ROM:
https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_(3rd_gen)-7247.php
Back in 2015, I purchased the one GB RAM because I didn't like being overcharged.
The Indian's package had 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM with free earplugs etcetera and it was cheaper than the UK's 1 GB RAM, which is one reason why I won't be buying another Motorola or Lenovo product again.

Carlito, 12 Jan 2018I learnt the 3rd gen is good, but can it be compared to moto x?Yes, it can.
Before I purchased my Moto G3rd Gen 2015 in 2015, UK I carried out a lot of research.
I have just checked for you:
www.YouTube.co.uk or www.YouTube.com and search for,
Compare Moto G3rd gen versus Moto X.
But an easier method is to just copy and paste the following link into a search engine, I use Google's Chrome, Moto X, < Compare Moto G3rd gen versus Moto X > without the brackets . Despite being rusty methods used in the past are coming back to me.

AnonD-721388, 12 Jan 2018Think before you buy. Think of how you are planning to use ... moreI would never tell any person to root their phone because it could damage it and if under guarantee would breach its warranty.
I have upgraded my Moto G 3rd Gen, UK, XT1541 to Marshmallow 6.0.1, which is the highest operating system that it can be legally upgraded to and it has a feature to make the battery last much longer without routing. Automatically using the feature that automatically shuts down apps when not in use besides other features in Marshmallow at least significantly saves battery life. Making the phone sleep if not used for 2 mins (Settings (6 pointed wheel when stroke the display from top to bottom > Press on the 6 pointed wheel > Display, and reducing the light (stroke the display from top to bottom may have to do it at least twice > to reduce the light move the 8 pointed wheel to the left) beside numerous other things is safer than rooting.
< YouTube.co.uk > or < YouTube.com >. - Within the YouTube's search box insert,
< Moto G3rd gen save battery > copy and paste if you like without the brackets .
Copy and paste this link into your browser (I used Google's Chrome Browser)
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Moto+G3rd+gen+save+battery
I use Ravpower portable battery pack RP-PB19 with a capacity of 1670mAh with 2 charging outputs; 2.4A & 2.1Amps it adjusts the voltage safely to whatever USB 5V USB device connected to it and automatically switches off when the limit is reached.
I also use Ravpower's 6 Port RP-UC10, which means also I don't have to worry about saving battery.
This reminds me using wireless wifi also reduces the battery. Therefore wherever possible don't connect to weak wifi because the weaker it is the more battery it will use. never download or update apps unless you are connected to the mains or have a portable battery pack that can automatically switch off when the limit is reached or a charger that can properly fully charge your phone or device without damaging it.
When I am at home I always keep my USB devices fully charged up.

Kostas, 25 Jan 2018Great review many thanksThe person who said that the Moto G3rd Gen is useless is probably actually talking nonsense: Which apps did he or she use? Where did the person download the apps from? Does the person use security software, and if so was it set up correctly? Does the person use a cleaner? Does the person unnecessarily have numerous apps running in the background, etcetera? What are the settings on the person's phone?
The person hasn't given any information that can be independently verified.
I have had mine since 2015 and it isn't that bad.
You can verify for yourself by going to YouTube and searching for Moto G3rd Gen.
You can also search for the following also, Moto G3rd Gen games, Moto G3rd Gen speed testing and Moto G3rd Gen Tutorials, Moto G3rd Gen Apps.
I have just verified that the examples that I have given actually works properly because it has probably been years since I researched Moto G3rd Gen, UK, XT1541.

The above YouTube links should be more than enough to verify that Kostas is talking nonsense (balderdash)

Kyle J, 27 Feb 2018This phone is awful. It is really really bad. though it may... moreComplete nonsense.
Go to YouTube to independently verify.
You should list which apps you used, which apps are running in the background, state which security software and cleaner you are using.
where did you download the apps from, because you may have a virus because it isn't that bad because I have had mine since 2015?
What are your settings also?

This phone is awful. It is really really bad. though it may perform well in the first few months of owning it, it quickly deteriorates. Many apps begin to bug out, often the Motorolla G3 wont even be able to run the apps. The phone sometimes crashes and when it does if you have a micro SD card it will wipe the card as well. I have had to factory reset this phone just to get it to work again. it is so poorly put together that it cannot handle having a micro SD card without currupting all your files. Of course you need an sd card because the small amount of internal storage is taken up by system apps and files.
Do not buy this phone unless you only intend to use it to call and text people, the benefits of this phone are nothing compared to the massive inconvenicence this terrible device is.

Think before you buy. Think of how you are planning to use the smartphone. If you want to run many app's at the same time, want WiFi 802.11ac (5.4mHz), fingerprint security, NFC, run Android 8.0 (Oreo), an extremely fast processor, have much memory and storage space (4gb/32+gb); DON'T buy this smartphone. If you want a smartphone that will do many of the things listed above; go ahead and spend $500+ for a much more powerful phone. However, if you just want to use this smartphone to do light to moderate things (phone/text/internet) the 2gb/16gb model is a perfect one. Go ahead and spend the extra 20 bucks for the 2gb/16gb model and avoid the 1gb/8gb one. Now I do know my stuff having worked in the industry for many years. Here's a few tips:
If you have a overheating problem; I run an app called Cooler Master, it's free and could be found in the Google Store. Also, shut down any app's you are not using. I have friends here in Costa Rica who have had this problem and examining their phone I have found that don't exit their app's once finished. They still have 20+ app's running in the background causing the heating problem. Close these app's by pulling down on notifications (upper left on your screen) then swiping to the right or left each app or press the CLEAR ALL button. Also, you can limit the number of active app's by going into the Developer Options. You can access Developer Options by going to Settings, then at the bottom of the screen tap About, then tap on the Build Number 5 times, then back out to the Setting screen, then scroll down to the bottom you should see Developer Options. Just select it and scroll down to Background Process Limit. I got my set to 2 processes.
Try to root your phone. There are many websites that you give you instructions on how to root your Moto G3, also there are many YouTube videos on how to root your phone. Just Google "How to root a moto g3".
Rooting your phone will allow you to install many extra things on your phone like custom ROM's and app's that require root access. One app that uses root access is Greenify. Greenify with root access allow you to place your phone in Sleep and Hibernate (your running app's) while you don't use the phone. Sleep and Hibernate still allow you to make and receive calls. I get 2 or 3 days on my battery and I moderately use my phone which I have had for 2 and a half years.
I am retired in Costa Rica for over 10 years and I hope this information is useful. Take care and good luck.

Also, get the 2GB Ram/16GB Storage model and not the 1GB/8GB model. A few more tips: Get WiFi Transfer Pro to transfer files from phone to computer via your WiFi no cable needed. Also, try to root the phone for many extras like extended battery life etc. Got a friend here in CR wanting a new cell phone to call his family in the States. Since he only need it to make local calls, use facebook, email, skype etc. I recommended the smaller model. If you want to do a lot with the smartphone, the lesser G3 will not be able to handle it. One more thing, get an SD chip to extend your storage.

I bought this phone from USA Amazon.com about 2 years ago. I did root it, and I am running Android 7.1.2 with Linage 14.1 ROM. I must say that this is the best cell phone I have ever had and I have own cell phones for many years. My first smartphone was the Nexus 1. For the price and what it does, it is the best. BTW, rooting is not extremely difficult. If you can follow directions, it can be done. Just GOOGLE "How to root a Moto G3". I do recommenced getting the 2GB/4GB phone and not the 1GB/2GB.

This is a great phone particularly the 16gb version, why would anybody spend $800 for a phone when this Moto G 3rd gen does it all. Well for the most part.

I love this phone. Miss it. Was using it for two years but decide to change it for Huawei p9 lite and give it to my mom. To be honest... Moto is much more better than Huawei. Battery life, camera, os, everything is better. hope when the moment to take a new phone comes, to have some good moto device.. G3 is supreme midranger for its time. Hands down. Hell of a phone. Good old Motorola devices wad just amazing. Moto X, Moto G's, bfor Lenovo. Moto X Style. Nexus 6. I've miss that phones. Lenovo sucks.

I have had this phone for over a year and I like it. It has some space issues at it only has 8gb internal memory but you need to move all your apps to SD card if possible otherwise you can "force stop" the apps you dont use
