This phone is the worst phone I've gotten so far. The battery is terrible. One day i took my phone off the charger at 11:00AM the phone died on me by 4:00PM. The phone died after 5 hours. Very inconvenient. I'm changing it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, guess i can't expect it to last forever considering it has 2 large screens. I think I'll manage. I'll just get a car charger. :D
Thanks a lot for your help!

I see that some are comp... moreRegarding the battery power, I educated my mom to simply re-charge her phone "everyday", even though the batteries on her phones (now using Moto W510 & V3maxx) can last at least 2 days...so to ensure she always has power on her phones. (being reachable by us in any case)
If you charge the phone at home everyday, and have the USB cable as charger in the office, I'm sure you can survive with V8 in most situation. Probably no need to carry any extra battery with you.
For build quality, I never have any concern with Moto's mid/high end phones....which have been well built. I used to sleep on the "upper deck" of a bed and dropped several of my Moto phones to the ground...absolutely no problem.
Somebody conducted a "crash test" on Zn5. For the link, you can go to the Zn5 forum.

So how long does the battery last? I see that some are complaining about this, and i really don't want to walk around with a phone charger in my back pocket.
And do you think the phone is built well? I mean that if i happen to drop it once (hope it won't happen) will I be able to keep using it? :D
All in all, would you recommend this phone to someone who might drop it once or twice, and who gets tired of charging the phone once every two days? :)
Thank you for your time!

As for reception signal strength and voice quality, I fully agrees with 100 Moto, V8's among the best I've ever used in these 2 factors. My current E8 loses out to V8 in terms of Voice quality for sure. Even for signal reception, I'm putting my E8 roughly about 5% (or maybe slightly more) less strong and stable than V8. That's how good I felt V8 can be even though the E8's reception is also quite good too.
V8's winning points are on design, really good reception and excellent voice quality. As long as the user can accept that V8 is a good phone with basic features, I don't see there're any further issues.

No problem with the alarm on my V9 either. Suggest you either take the phone back to where you buy from...or dig out your old phone solely as the alarm clock!

I have this phone about one month.
Today, for second time, the wake-up alarm did not ring.
I searched on the net and found another 2 people have the same problem. Their V8's alarm does not ring the morning, so they are late to go to work or school.
I don't know what to do, this is a big problem for me because I used to have my mobile phone to wake me up.

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2009As with any motorola, the user experience isn't the greates... more"Initially" I wasn't interested to get an V8 either.
Though after a network service provider in my area offers unlimited GPRS for about US$12, I decided to get a V8 soley for that purpose, then I discovered it (and V9) offers the best reception among over 10 active Moto phones I'm currently using so far.
Voice quality is also among the best...only V9 and K3 are on par with V8.
Of course I've so many other Moto phones with external memory, though my wife's iphone doesn't have external memory either, and she still loves her iphone....and her K3.

As with any motorola, the user experience isn't the greatest. The biggest drawback is that it doesn't have expandable memory, which to some users may stop them from buying the phone.

moto_curious, 18 Jan 2009hi there.
i find this opinions section really helpful, and... moreChoosing between V8 & V9 depends if you need 3G or not.
Between V6 and V8/V9, if V8/V9 consumes battery like an SUV with V8 engine, V6 is probably a "midsize" car running on V6 engine (sorry not sure if you're familiar with cars)
V8/V9 are great phone for voice quality and reception, though the drawback is they consume battery power like SUV for cars with its "dual" super size monitors.
I recommend for those with battery power concern for V8/V9, they should put the charger at home and the micro-USB cable at the office connecting to a computer, plus a car charger if you drive. Then you should never run out of power.

Stuart, 17 Jan 2009Hi Zybex,
I've owned a V8 before and found it to be the ... moreHere is my experience with V8/E2 (old!)
My office is actually across the border of HK...where I'm "supposed" to be on roaming. However, certain "mainland" operator is nice enough to shoot enough 2G signal from HK side, so I actually don't have to roam at all! (maybe that's how it attracts customers...being the only operator without 3G in HK)
Anyway, the same SIM card on E2 proved to be rather unstable. On the other hand, at the exact same location (my desk), my V8 gets the best signal out of all of my phones currently with me. (more than 10 now with my latest A3100) Indeed, signal is extremely stable on my V8 that I start to think about dumping my Z8 running on unstable 3G thru another operator.

No, I ain... moreYou might need to check out whether your V8's software is the latest version and since this is probably the easiest way out for your problem, get it updated first and see if that solves your problem. If not, further diagnosis is required. I remembered my previous V8 performed better with more stable reception after the update.

Hey Stuart,

No, I aint dropped my V8 neither I kept it near any electromagnetic Field..
My problem is bit weird, Only near my apartment my V8 tends to loose signal 3 or 4 times a day.I found my V8 working perfectly in other areas.Though I've a Samsung and a nokia with me too always nd they r perfect.

ZYBEX, 16 Jan 2009guys need help....
My V8 looses the network atleast 3-4 ti... moreHi Zybex,
I've owned a V8 before and found it to be the best in terms of reception strength compared to my other previous phones including my current E8. Got the V8's software updated once last year, a few months before I sold it off for E8. The signal strength was very stable and always stays around full bar majority of the time. At that time, I thought it was normal and I actually expected the signal to be that good, to me, anything from Motorola should be that good anyway - until, when I changed to E8. For the first month, I noticed my current E8's signal bar was fluctuating, from 3 to 4 bars when my previous V8 was full steadily at the same location. To cut the story short, I got my E8 back on track after a warranty claim and now it seems to be "similar" to my previous V8 in terms of reception, or maybe very slight difference, that V8's better.
If your V8 has this problem on reception strength, try sending it back for diagnosis. Have you dropped your phone recently? Or have you put your phone near to an electronic equipment that has strong electromagnetic field without realizing it? Another strong Motorola user/believer here, 100 Moto too has the same feedback, V8 / V9 have better signal reception as compared to many other phones he has tried. I agreed with that too.
