EMS06, 28 Dec 2008Sorry to hear about your warranty issues. The battery pack ... moreApparently the V8 seems to be riddled by issues, as does the V9. If I could deconstruct the V8 I can show you the numerous flaws that start to compromise the phone after months of use. I mean the phone feels robust and well made. It never looks like the phone is going to fall apart, and the phone has superior sound, reception and clarity, there is no doubt it is a superior "phone" to anything Samsung or LG makes. But the V8 feels as if the engineering department did not test the dynamics of their design. I think with several adjustments and tweaks this could have been an amazing phone. The form and feel is unmatched by any other phone I have attempted to use or used. Having said that, I do not recommend this phone to anyone, though I would not say it is a horrible phone, it is just that you have to expect there to be several issues, and if you have a warranty it is really not that big of a deal other than the two weeks it could take before you get another unit or your faulty one repaired. So if you are going to buy this phone, make sure you buy it from your local market and from a authorized retailer that provides for the use of the warranty in your country.

    hy

I'm from Hungary and i need some help about buying a new phone.
I have a Motorola v3x now and it's getting old. I like the V8 style and features, but i've read the phone comments here and it isn't reliable,it has so many problems. My second choice is a nokia 6300...
I have an ipod touch for multimedia,so i need the phone just calling, and texting.

    What do you suggest?

One more thing I can confirm is the loss of time on my V8, it is exactly as you describe it on your luxury edition. I know of one other user on here that had/has the same problem.

I woul... moreI cannot use the warranty as Motorola USA will not honor a Motorola U.K warranty, and it is a UK market phone. As for the battery and the refitted cover, that would turn a slim and sexy phone into some abomination. I purchased my V8 luxury edition because of it's sleekness, not too mention the rear cover on the luxury edition is paradigm to the overall look of the phone with it's snakeskin pattern. The issues with the keypad and battery has caused T-Mobile to drop the phone completely. My particular unit does not have any branding, the software is the native Motorola software and it's fairly adequate other than the oversight over the lack of ability to check missed calls from the outside screen. Which for any person who has been using cell phones for years, is a BIG deal.

Those are the worst problems you've faced! I would've taken the phone back as soon as I noticed those issues. Anyway, the one problem I have encountered was the charging port cover becoming loose.

Other than that, I really can't complain.

For those with battery issues there's a BX-81 BATTERY AND COVER PACK that gives you way better standby and talk times. For software issues it is likely to be old firmware that needs upgrading unless it is the horrible operator branding which does cause irritating problems.

This phone had great possibilities but they were never realized. I have had my particular v8 luxury edition unit since January and have one problem after another. The worst part about this phone is how it starts to fall apart after about eight months. The glue starts to run into the phone and gets all over the speaker, the speaker cover starts to slip off as it loses the glue, the screw cover with the "M" logo starts to fall apart as well. The glue from the screen starts to leak into the phone as well, a similar issue as with the V3i. The usb port cover will come off fairly quickly and the keypad starts to become glitchy and eventually nearly useless. Sometimes when you open or close the phone it will shut off, freeze and/or reboot. The clock may start to lose minutes over the course of a few weeks. Mine seems to lose two minutes a week. It is what it is. The strangest part about this phone is how you cannot check your missed calls from the front screen as you can with nearly every Motorola phone going back six years. It is a bizarre oversight and shows me that Motorola has no clue what they are doing anymore. The battery does not last a day even with little to no use. I changed the battery but it is no better. Remember Motorola claimed the battery was good for six+ hours of talk time. A complete lie by any stretch of the imagination. I love the form factor of this phone, but it is simply not the refined piece of gadgetry it pretends to be. There is no excuse for a $800 phone to have become junk in less than a years time of careful usage by someone who takes care of his things.
