Can any one tell me how to lower the ringer volume? I can't seem to find that option. Under Profiles I found Normal, Vibrate, Silent, Meeting and Sleeping but I could not control the volume. Please advice. Thnx.

        @Stuart

Thanks for the info. Currently I'm not experiencing any problems on my V8, even the battery problem has been sorted since I received my 1380mah battery and cover. The phone lasts a good three and a half to four days in standby time depending on usage of course. I'll be going to the Moto service center on tuesday for my software update and will report back on the changes if any.

          EMS06

Honestly after my V8's software updated sometime in April this year to the latest version by the Motorola tech guy, the only immediate difference I noticed was the signal strength improved and became more stable as compared to before. The reason why I sent in my V8 for software update in the first place was for signal strength improvement because I felt the reception signal was not good enough prior to that. My V8's conversation was cut off at an area where there was only slight interruption using my previous Z3. No doubt fluctuation of signal bar is unavoidable depending on area and network.

One very interesting simple test I did recently was I held both my wife's phone and mine (I bought her an SE K550i brand new last year) to observe the stability and signal strength. Both V8 and the SE have 5 maximum bars for signal indication. Within a couple of minutes, I noticed my V8 has 5 max bars, the SE has 4, after a short while my V8 dropped to 4, that's when it got interesting, the SE dropped to 3 and fluctuated between 2 and 3. I was surprised because I thought phones nowadays are about the same in terms of reception signal ability. Was it the updated software? I'm not sure. Was it because Motorola has stronger signal? I'm not sure. My wife and me share the same phone network provider so there's no question on network issue.
To be fair, I can't exactly conclude that SE phones are not as good in terms of signal reception because some phones perform better with 2 bars signal than other phones with 3 bars. But seeing the difference makes me feel good, at least.

No other differences were observed after the software update, maybe something's different but I just can't feel or see it. As long as everything's running fine, I'm OK with it. Personally I would recommend all V8 users to have their software updated by the authorized local Motorola Service centre, there must be some improvements or patches fixed over the last version.
If you have any interesting encounter, I hope you could let us all know.
          Good luck.

            Hi Stuart.

I'm in the process of updating the software on mine. I just wanted to find out from you precisely what has been enhanced in the functioning of your V8? Thanks.

              @ Priscilla

Have you considered doing a Master Reset on your V8? Don't do it yourself just for the music issue but take this opportunity to get the V8's latest software installed & updated too. I got my V8's software updated (latest version) at NO COST sometime in April this year from the local Motorola Service Centre and did my data back up via Motorola Phone Tool before they executed the update. Since then I noticed my phone performed slightly better, signal strength is more stable & stronger, maybe it's psycological. By doing this I hope you can benefit from better performance and at the same time getting your music issue resolved. NOTE: Please synchronize all your contacts, calendar and tasks with your PC before that so that you won't lose the datas. There will be a slight inconvenience using this method, you'll need to reconfigure your wallpaper, ring tones, alarms and so on. Personally I believe this is a good approach to your problem and the only thing you lose is a bit of time. Good luck.

Tks for the advice re:the music.I've tried all that you mentioned and it still doesnt work.I've even reset the phone so that it went back to original setting and still no luck.Strangely, when I connect to a friend's pc it shows as phone. And another thing, when the tech came over to try and solve the prob, my cell showed as camera and his showed as cell.So cant figure out where the problem stems from as it shows as cell on another pc.Help please. And I did try even using as a storage device. And though it shows from the cell to the pc, that the music is there, we dont find it on the phone. So need some advice. Thanks

                      @ boon

I'm surprised with your V8's talktime. I've mine coming 6 months now and it can last me up to late afternoon, around 4pm before the battery meter drops to 2 bars and that's when I usually charge it for another 30 minutes either in my car if I drive or with the P790. I would consider my phone usage above average or high, about 300 bucks a month and my bluetooth is powered on about 90% of the time, connection to bluetooth headset is estimated to be around 4 hours a day averagely because I use my bluetooth headset even when I'm in the office or at home most of the time. Maybe it's time for you to change your battery? I agreed the BX40 battery size is nothing to shout about. I got my self a car charger, P790 portable charger for both my V8 and H12 bluetooth set, it's very useful.

                        Camera and keypad great
Battery :LOUSY !!! Talktime est at 1hrs plus
If constant use of other functions battery will depleted even faster.

                          @ Priscilla

Just a suggestion on your problem, flip open your V8, press Main Menu, press Setting, Press Connection, choose USB setting, most V8s have Media Synchronization marked as default. Maybe you can try choosing others like Memory Device, and then turn off(switch off) your V8. Switch it on again about 10 seconds later, do the same but choose back Media Synchronization and all this is done without having the USB cable connection between your V8 and your PC, only after you turn on your V8 with all settings like wallpaper, signal, time, date and the 'E'(Edge) appear which means basically the phone is stable after re-setting, connect it to your PC or notebook. I presumed you are using the Motorola Phone Tool software for music download so open your Motorola Phone Tool and download all the songs you want from your PC under Multimedia Icon. If you are using bluetooth connection between the V8 and your PC, try the same method but make sure your V8 is reset and your PC is also reset before connection.
Personally I've encountered similar problem like yours when trying to transfer songs to my V8 and it worked. Hope this would settle your problem.

I've got a V8 which was working fabulously until now. A few months ago I was able to download music on my cell but now whenever I connect the cell to either a pc or laptop, it appears as a camera. I've tried even resetting it but it keeps appearing as a camera and Im unable to download music on it. Strangely enough when I tried it on a friend's pc, it worked as a cell phone. So could someone please advice me on what to do?

                                Sharing with all V8 users,

I would like to share with you guys on Bluetooth headset for V8. Since there are so many Bluetooth sets available in the market today, it's impossible to buy all and experience them. I've surfed, searched and read about lots of reviews from different websites with mixed opinions, some good, some bad. So like most of us, it's difficult for us to decide which one is the best (base on individual's budget)to buy.
My experience, I've tried pairing with many "small" sets before at the phone shops because I like to put them in my pocket when not in use. Most of them does not meet my personal requirements (I'm looking for clarity in both incoming & outgoing, good loud enough volume and preferably less interferences in noisy environment). Many gave acceptable incoming qualities but soft or low volume on outgoing sound quality or vice versa. I read that Jawbone is the best, of course, still there bad reviews from users. After all the time spent, I narrowed down to Jabra BT8040 because of features and Motorola H12 or 680. I can't include Jawbone, Sound ID and Plantronics because they are not available in my country, probably too expensive after tax and shipping.
I've used GG03 (loud volume bluetooth set, relatively stable), Touch BTS 900 (wired bluetooth set with good distance and stability) and I-Lady (I-tech's small wonder, it's actually quite good overall but my wife rejected it as a gift and she took my GG, luckily it's not pink!). Among all, I preferred the I-Tech due to it's good sound volume, average clarity & freedom, no hook and wire. I'm now using Motorola's H12, the reviews from certain websites were not very impressive. I bought it because of the Motorola's good service I experienced before and the Crystal Talk technology, initially I thought it was a bit of gamble, if the set gives me problem, I'm willing to go back & forth to them until I gets it right. In short, it's a very good headset, clear sound quality both incoming and outgoing, very comfortable and nice design, different from the reviews I read from some websites.
Something I experienced before purchasing the H12: I usually test any bluetooth set by pairing and making calls to friends to confirm its quality. The first H12 I tested was a disappointment, my friend could hear me but very soft meanwhile I can hear him very clearly. Then I asked for another brand new set for testing and the second set was excellent, exactly what I wanted. So I took the 2nd set.
Like phones, we get mixed reviews (good & bad) because of again, inconsistencies of manufacturing procedures. So it's best to test out any phones, bluetooth headsets you wanted to purchase before handing over your hard earn money to them.

Hi there mate. Thanks for the thorough guide, it actually works. I swear I went throuh the same proces at some point in time.

Oh well, since it was the first time I tried it I must have missed something along the execution. Thanks once again.

Follow Stuart's instructions and you'll get an option to "copy all to phone" and that should do it.

I'm trying to help but does not guarantee 100% success as I've all my contacts in Microsoft Outlook. Anyhow, there's no harm trying.
Since all your contacts are in your SIM card, try this: Go to CONTACT icon, open it, at the bottom left you'll see "Option", press OPTION and you should see a list (Call, Send Message & so on), scroll down to "Manage Contacts", press right arrow and see if you can find "Copy all to...."(Phone) because personally all my contacts were stored in the phone instead of SIM, I got "Copy all to SIM card". So I hope you could find the opposite, Copy all to Phone in your case. Assuming you manage get it done, proceed to sync your V8 with your computer and sync all your contacts to Microsoft Outlook, in case you change phone or lose your phone in the future, you could still transfer all contacts into your new phone, be it running with Linux, Windows Mobile or even Symbian OS with simple clicks on your computer. I've seen friends of mine lost their phone or accidentally did master reset with all contacts gone, the word pity doesn't mean anything at that time.
For your No.2 question, take a look at my comment @EMS06, two comments below yours. The button you mentioned which is supposedly a camera button is actually a select key, just like the ENTER key on your computer keyboard. It's purposes are for 1)to lock and unlock the external screen and 2)for reading and replying text messages without flip opening the phone. That's where you'll value the haptic technology of Motorola, a very soft vibration response each time you press the button - no other phones have it.

                                        Hi guys,

I finally got my V8 (yay!) but have a few questions about it:
                                        1) How do I import my contacts that are saved on my SIM? I've looked all over and am at a loss. They are there (cause they show in my call list) but just dont appear in contacts. Strange!
                                        2) The third (I think it's sposed to be a camera button) button on the exterior left side wont do anything besides locking/unlocking the phone. Is there anyway to change this to a more.... useful... feature?

                                        Appreciate any help!
