E2's speaker actually is not as superb and loud as E1. But it is enough to hear ringtones. However you will be pleased with headphone music.

The shortcut key is the joystick only. how about if i would like to customize shortcut key for key #1-9? Yup, the voice command is very cool. But it can't recognized what i say most of the time.
Compare to older version of C series, where it allow us to do voice recording for voice dailing. It would be much better. Plus, the older C series also can create shortcus key by press .

yeah you can use the voice command function to dial a number.
to change the shortcuts, just click on options on the main screen and customize home.
yes the e2 only has 1 speaker, it doesnt mean that the sound is bad though. e2 is made for the purpose of it being your mobile media player, so they focused on the 3.5mm jack. the speaker is still loud on fmradio but not on mp3(which means its not a speaker problem), but this can be easily fixed by flashing your phone.

I just got my ROKR E2. Not really get use to the function/ navigation yet. I've try the voice command. Very frustrating. Can E2 do voice recording for dailing? Can we create our own shortcut key to function what we want?

@drew
hmmm... not really sure why you're not able to edit your gprs settings... 43p and 40p comes w/ 2 preloaded settings on it, i dont know what their names are since its in chinese. but I just went to data connections, removed both of them and made my own settings using cingular's settings =]
i can now happily browse the web and send MMS w/o any issues =]
as for the speed, again not really sure why you have a slow speed, since i never really experienced any slowness in my phone.
only thing w/ 43p and 40p is that they're branded, but that shouldn't be a problem soon since we are already able to telnet to the phone and soon enough we should be able to remove preloaded stuffs in there.

No, my motorola E2 is not faulty. I tried both my friend'd and mine.
First, the firmware i had is the official 38p which is still currently the latest in singapore.
The firmware I upgraded through the internet is 43p (with increase volume) As mentioned, it' a china unofficial version and i can't edit GPRS setting with that. Thus can't received or sent MMS not to talk about surfing.
Menu speed is still slow, in fact speed of menu, applications, togglering from music player to messaging does not have any difference in firmware from 38p to 43p.. yes, i heard that it's faster than firmware 33p and under but my 7610 (one of the older symbian phone) with personalise theme is still faster. Now that's ridicluous! And i'm now staring to imagine how previous user like u can bear with those old firmware..
As for battery life, This is a music phone made in 2006, screen is turn off, there's power saver mode that turn off keypad light in bright environment and i remembered setting the brightness to 2, and backlight time to 10sec and standby time still fell shorter than my good old 7610 by half a day! Imagine most sony walkman series as well as k750i till my w850i can beat it with similar usage capacity by an extra 1.5 days!!
Just as u mentioned not using itap for smsing.. imagine for someone like me who does.. it's just a pain.
Enough said.

it seems that your e2 is bad drew.
my e2 never hangs up on me.
i got my e2 w/ 33p firmware on it, and it doesnt have any problems except of course the mp3 playback using loud speaker.
but easily fixed the problem by flashing to 36p, 43p or the new official firmware 40p.
and i can still use my gprs as well as my mms, just need to setup the settings the properly. the settings should be available in your provider's website or if not, you can always call them.
battery life on my e2 is good as well, before i bought my e2 i was actually thinking about getting an extra battery, but it doesnt seem to be necessary as the battery life stays good even though i always play mp3, fm radio and do some calls and txt messages once in a while.
i dont have a comment w/ the dictionary since i never use iTap.
but for the speed, the software speed is decent on my 33p firmware but went zzzoooommmmm... when i flashed to 43p.
couldn't agree more about the sleep mode clock! when the screen light is off, the screen light is really off!
i guess its just really a matter of preference, i really love my e2! way better than my previous phones, way cheaper too! has an awesome screen (i found a movie converter software, and the quality is killer!!! damn nice!)

Ok. Had sold away this phone.
Here is my honest opinion.
Phone's software regardless of even the latest one is buggy and problematic.
1. Phone's dictionary is vary limited. U can't even find simple daily words.
2. Phone could not remember save word, sometimes even on the same day, i had to go to the normal editing (non predictive) to input similar word 'save" earlier.
3. Phone's software is a tag slower even to my good old 7610.
4. Poor battery life. Standby time is not as good as my other phones such as 6233 or my current w850i, it loses out to almost a day which in my point of view is really bad.
5. No option to turn on sleep mode clock. When screen's light goes off, screen is completely blank.
6. Low mp3 playback on external speaker. I don't usually use it to play mp3 but when phone rang, i could hardly hear it when kept in pocket even in quiet place.
Yes, there's forum that appears on WWW with firmware to mod E2 and increase external ringtone etc.. but it's not useful.
First, ringtone did not significantly get louder, second upon upgrading, u will lose the ability to use GPRS and u can't even MMS. Why cos these firmware are made only for china market thus no settings for u to configure to your country and u can't even accept OTA settings from your service provider.
Second, some of these firmware allows you to change ithe themes of your E2. But what's the point, since using nokia 6600, i had being editing of making my own themes. Even now when switch of sony, their theme editor is much more sophisticated and it's a official sony software.
As much as this phone do have some plus points like a very screen and quality of mp3 played through earphone. It doesn't serve well in basci features of what a phone really needs.. which is the primary purpose of communication.

I got a problem that it cant play music through the speaker with 3.5mm jack. Although it can play through a headphone (3.5mm) very good.

I am posting opinion using my rokr
e2. Got mine 2 mnths now and got
to vouch for this as screen and
internet cnection rivals my hp
laptop! I can multitask with text,
music, internet at same time and
thoroughly enjoy it for hours . I
have sony ericson w900 but use e2
more. For less than half the price
the value is the same. Good bang
for the buck...
