Phone will play music over 5mb in stereo if you convert it to WMA. Try putting music onto to memory card that also will help although don't bother creating playlists as the phone will corrupt them. Difference between E616 and C616 is E is in English and C is Chinese. Java games in UK can only be downloaded from 3. Battery life does improve with age and in Hong Kong a 2300mah battery is available. Transfer video files to memory card not phone. Phone will not accept files bigger than approx 5mb but will play unlimited video file size on card. Generally the phone should be great but shoddy software and hutchinson greed spoilt it. Get a925

What the hell is it with the MP3 player?? Did the 3 salesman tell me the files can be 5Mb maximum? No!!
Upon asking the fag ass if there are any problems witht the handset, he said there are none.
now, I can play some mp3 files, if I use a program called dBpowerAMP, but then the stereo bit gets converted to fkkin mono. no other way of getting around the problem. I thought optus was bad. I was right. But at least optus didnt supply me with a dud of a handset.

My e616 has a few internal software bugs but If I am a bit patient with the phone it works fine. The 3 network seems to be pretty good.
This phone is way better looking than the LG U8120 because it doesnt have an antenna or a stupid rotating camera.
I hope NEC makes a smaller upgrade to this phone to compete with all the new 3 phones entering the market.

I have one of these phones, and have compared it to the latest LG and earlier NEC's.
How can you complain this much about the phone???
bluetooth:
Doesn't anyone ever read manuals? It states there that you can only link up to a headset with bluetooth.
Software is apparently able to be upgraded through various stores here in england, but elsewere I dont know. This should fix most of the bugs, (such as not recording changes to the caller ID sending.) With the larger battery, I can get just as much runtime as my mate with the LG 8120!
I solved my problem with conection by allowing the phone to roam onto other networks for voice calls. I have not had any problems eith the data cable or software that came with it, and my PC is diabolical for linking to USB devices.
In my opinion, (and I know I'll regret saying this,) the NEC is a great phone, with a few easilly remedied problems. If NEC would adapt the program and make a larger battery for it, I think most people would forgive them.

Can't find any support available for this phone so I'll ask here. I got the drivers to install okay using Win98. But now I've upgraded to XP they refuse to install properly. HELP! I want to get all these videos and photos off the phone and onto my computer.

I searched for E616 websites because I wanted to see if anyone else had the battery and poor reception problems. The 500 free minutes are going to waste in a big way. I have both batteries and they are both rubbish. Connections don't happen despite full signal strength indicated. When battery power is less than full calls seem to fail more. Wife's 5 year old orange phone is ready to make calls in 10-15 seconds, boot-up on this is way longer.
Is there a solution to battery problem?
Is there improvement from software updates? Mine is version 12. Help!

My daughter owns one of these and, despite being a totally cool piece of kit, it's about as reliable as a water-damaged Nokia 5110 :-/ NEC/3's "support" stinks of the worst kind of shite, Bluetooth simply doesn't work, the phone crashes with alarming regularity and the battery life's utterly crap. Such a shame, this phone could be *so* good....

It seems that the 3 network where ever you all are is just poor, here in Australia it is an extremely reliable and great network!

Got a 3 Mobile NEC e616 on Contract in March-04, have had nothing but problems ever since. Get 750 x-network mins anytime, but never get to use them as phone doesnt work. Got sent to Carphone warehouse in reading for an upgrade, 3 days later got the phone back (only supposed to be 3 hours Max, as carphone warehouse were too busy to fit the software upgrade in) got the Phone back on Saturday with no battery charge at all. Got it home, charged it and guess what the phone wont even turn on now. Have called three 6 times over today and yesterday and India keep putting me on hold, Phone was supposed to be collected yesterday or today before 1, Im still waiting on the collection. Its awful as if you cancel your direct debit it goes against your credit raiting, cant downgrade pricplan for 6 months, they wont give you a loan phone. As a result I have been paying £45 a month for a phone and service that dont work. At the weekend I returned faithfully to Vodafone and bought a pay as you go, so that people can contact me while this saga continues. Stay away from NEC e616 phone and please stay away from 3 Mobile.
