Well done Nokia, they've also gone up 41% in the smartphone segment. Yes they are down 71% compared to this time last year, but thats due to the current economic situation, fact is they have gathered back their ground, and are on their way back to untouchable, back up to 38% globaly, and back up to 41% smartphone segment globaly, so whether you love em or hate em, get over it they are on the way up, you cant just compare to last year cause then almost all manufacturers results ths year are lower than last year.

smartphone does not mean all high-end phones and vice-versa.

There are many high-end phone produced by other maker but are not considered as smartphone thus i think it should not be right to say Nokia captures 41% of the high-end market but instead u should say its smartphone market. bare in mind, smartphone market contribute 41m this qtr with nokia selling 17m. 41m of the total market approx 300m thats not even a qtr of the whole market. so u think 86% of the phone sold or 259m are all low end phones?

Since Samsung painted a picture of better sales in Q2 than in Q1. i would be prudent to use Samsung Q1 sales to compare with Nokia Q2 Sales.

Nokia Revenue from Headset Q2, that means excluding Network revenue is approx 6.5 B EUR thats around 9 Billion USD. Samsung Revenue from its mobile division is approx 9.5 Trillion Won or apprx 8 Billion USD in Q1. Isnt it sad that someone who sold twice as much in volume but is mere selling 20% more in terms of value. That means samsung sold more high end phone than Nokia

If Nokia's market share is 38% and is up on Q1 it simply means any gains by Samsung this year have not been at the expense of Nokia but the other players like SE and the like....

FOKIA, 16 Jul 2009take that samsungI'm afraid it might be too happy to think that Nokia is gaining at the expense of all other 5 maker. Lets see all other maker result. By next friday, all top 5 maker would haf released their result.

For you information, last week samsung had estimated their sales to be between $30 to $33 billion, up from prior qtr and last year. and is expecting profit to be between $2 and $2.3 Billion. Another information to note, Samsung Mobile is their cashcow and their other 2 division are not making much infact samsung mobile is covering for its other 2 divisions.

1 fact to note, Nokia ASP has fallen again and it means its selling more low end phone than it sell in the high end phone section.

lets just wait for LG and Samsung to release their result before we see who actually gain the most.

Im working for a mobile phone retailer in Holland, even with this seemingly good results id say nokia is still losing its touch. They keep making ugly (attention: opinion) phones which I find hard to sell and now theyve even turned their backs on durability.. (n96, 5800). That being said, the n97, which is a step back in the right direction, is unbelievable high in price and not that exciting.

zugzug, 16 Jul 2009shouldn't the arrow in the nokia image be pointing downward... moreYou clearly must be living on another planet if you can't acknowledge that there has been a worldwide recession since last year. The effect of this is that operators and distributors will destock and keep stock to minimum levels and consumers will cut back on spending or defer upgrades which ultimately results in lower demand for Nokia's products. Competition has a samll part to play as Q2 2008 market share was 40% and is currently at 38% which isn't a material decline or something to get excited about...

The only reason people seemingly cheer Nokia over it's competitors is because this is a Nokia bashing ground. Any flaw by Nokia is magnified 1000 times by it's haters on here but flaws by it's competitors are overlooked.

How many times have people been predicting the demise of Nokia everytime Samsung or LG has released a product?. It's almost everytime, the only good thing about all this is that the numbers will always speak for themselves and Nokia is still has the greatest market share in both normal and smart phones and actually increased this market share compared to Q1 this year.

I always tell people on here to wait for company financial results before engaging in senseless bashing. Besides with Nokia's figures already out, only a brain dead person would argue to the contrary that Nokia is faring quite well.

Let me break it down for you. Despite Samsung and LG releasing phones almost every week this year, this hasn't been enough to dethrone Nokia at the number one spot as Nokia actually gained market share from Q1 this year.
