Sony Ericsson summarizes Q2 financially, loses more ground

16 July, 2009
It seems that last night was a restless one for a lot of accountants - Sony Ericsson put out their Q2 financial report. The tough year just keeps getting tougher for them it seems, the number of units...

also may i remind u that s.e. released a few phone models last time which turns out to be a big failure . this is when everyone started to hate s.e. / but i better tell u the 5mp cam of my k850i was rocking / but later on after 2 to 3 weeks my k850i started to give trouble with sudden restarts crashes (too much trouble than symbian os - and crashups are ok with the symbian since its a operating system not a firmware / s.e. uses a firmware like lg and samsung but still gives big trouble it is not acceptable i havent expirienced such stuff even with lg or samsung firmwares not even with symbian) then later on the most hated phone of all the time is w580 which is a big mistake done by s.e.

one more thing, if sony don't improve their handset quality, they may as well forget about releasing new phones and just wind-up their business. I'm all along using SE phones since K700i till now C905, the absolute failure model, and I use to hate nokia when their N70 failure hit sky high, and their service center were always flooded with people waiting to sent-in their phones, but recently I realized that the number of people in the service center reduced tremendously. So I gave it a try and i'm happily using Nokia 5800 few months ago till now.

Of course they're running a loss. Look at the type of services their service center provide, it sucks. Especially C905, it's a real failure!
3 months sent in to service center 3 times. What the hack!

boblex, 16 Jul 2009you are right. the w995 is the only se phone so far i have... more  I am also a SE fan. The P1i and w960i uiq phones are the best symbian phones. Nokia symbian phones are always hangs. I dont know why XSE stops the symbian uiq platform. I hope SE will be back with Satio and Xperia Series. After k810, there camera phones are not good.

I think they should come with some modification like 3.5 mm AV jack instead of so called SE Headset cable and Use Os like Symbian, Android instead of Java.

well obviously their sales and what not will drop seeing as how their phones don't even come with a standard 3.55mm jack. Like really... would you want a phone where you can use any headphones or want to carry bundles of wiring to listen to your music? Oh and how about their phones becoming slower as you use them?! Anyone noticed that???

the secret to success in mobile market is to build phone models with good camera (not 12mp cams like in s.e. satio) / 3g / symbian / touch screen (if needed) / performance / functionality / the look / good display / good battery life / matching prize tag - thats why the nokia 5800 got sold in millions world wide .

i think nokia have realized these and have grown up . but what s.e. fails in is there less symbian os supported phone models / too basic designs / unmatching prize tags with unmatched high camera mega pixels or let me say too much is getting too much and adds too much prize .

do u really think that ppl will actually buy so many 12mp camera equipped phones just to show off for a very unreasonable prize tag . i know that s.e. satio havent been released yet but i know that its prize tag will be not what we think it is when it gets released . cuz everytime s.e. releases a symbian product the prize goes too high . and they are good enough to stay with there own s.e. firmware but nowadays ppl are getting bored with it .

and lg / samsung still affected with limited battery life they are not doing anything to increase and fix this problem . fix it they will rock . and lg / samsung got very very reasoanable prize tags for there products no furthur questions asked about it .

motorolas still fails to bring up a good amount of mobile products to the market . i dont know when they gonna do that . they fail than everyone else .

what SE lacks are proper way of marketing and diversity of selection..
they have many good units, but not everyone can afford it..

I currently Work in a telecommunications store, the amount of Sony Ericsson models we have available to choose from 4, the amount of Nokia we have available 12. I have been a massive fan of SE for the past 6 Years but without a greater diversity in their mobile market laws of odds just prove that things wont work out well for them.
Look to other companies who have gone down a similar path, Motorola having only about 5 models of the same original V series available, they are now battling bankruptcy as well.
Please SE just release a larger range soon as well as the Satio ASAP Thats all thats needed

I used to be a SE fan, loved the S710a (S700i in other parts of the world). After I got the K850i, that killed it. My love for SE has shattered. I can't believe a company would actually make a phone so faulty and act that there's no problem with it AND don't do anything to try to solve it.

Looking at SE's product lineup, they definitely need more BETTER smartphones. As the trend for mobile phones are shifting to the smartphone side, SE should focus on that instead of some crappy W995. I hope their new Yari, Aino, and Idou will save their butts, otherwise they will probably go out of business.

I know my next phone won't be from SE. It will probably be an iphone, or samsung, or LG.

I think SE really needs to learn strategies from other vendors. I am a fan of SE. SE products such as w995 is a great phone. But why the price is higher than N86 (nearer competitor). IMO the phone would be hot sales if it put in mid range price. Look at 5800 xpress music. Ok, first time it launched, it was buggy phone but because of good strategy in price today it achieved more than 6 million sale (if i am not wrong). I hope people from SE read this comment. Viva SE...!

sad but hardly surprising. their last innovative phone was the W900... after that it all started going downhill (selling the same old tired hardware with just different looks) after that. no wonder they're losing money...

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2009Not just the paint but their name also! Many W995 owners... moreSE doesn't have their own production means for making their phones so they order those from other companies. And those companies charge a higher price if SE orders less phones. And SE orders less phones because people don't buy their higher priced phones so well during world economy crisis. Which leads to SE decreasing ordered phone amounts, and they don't agree to pay premium, so actual phone makers start saving money on everything.

Basically: SE quality will keep dropping with prices rising unless a miracle happens.

                                    Or so I heard...

Many W995 owners, including self, have seen the SE name on the top front faceplate just PEEL off.

How pathetic that SE used stickers instead of stamping their iconic name onto the metal faceplate!!

Why do we, the consumers, have to pay a high price for this Bullsh*t?!

SE is cutting corners on their quality and this latest act just PROVES that the company deserves to sink!! Too damn greedy and arrogant!!
