Apple is selling its $230 ( production hardware costs) iphone 6 in $900 because of just ios software. Samsung has best hardware such as super AMOLED SCREEN and best features. Xiaomi is selling its phones at almost BOM prices , BOM of Xiaomi is almost same as apple , increasing 200% market share every year. So Sony should come with distinct features and strategies to get ahead even though it has very good phones in good prices in the market.

AnonD-60230, 14 Jan 2015from the time I took my first phone in my hands, it was a S... moreI am both an HTC and a Sony user for a long time. Sony and HTC have similar strategy when it comes to Android - minimalistic UI overlay with enough customizations to differentiate from rivals.
As for the hardware, I'd say HTC produces vivid picture quality (at least on their flagship phones) but Sony knows how to balance quality and features.
It's not Sony but the market is saturated with cheaper products. Sony should at least lower their prices a bit more if they want to sell more.

AnonD-87798, 14 Jan 2015First the company sold its PC division to another company &... moreSony is best but I think sony's ceo hiri is on the same mission where Nokia's ceo did with great Nokia from Microsoft. Hiri is a traitor. He wants to sell everything in sony's hand. Last year great VAIO GONE now mobile and tvs of great sony. Then Playstation etc

from the time I took my first phone in my hands, it was a Sony phone and till today, I haven't tried using any other company's product. Sony has always provided world class products..... the durability of their phones were too good (my phone fell countless number of times from my hand but still running like a horse) I loved their UI since they doesn't make too much of useless customization... I love their design as well... well to be true, other than camera (which could have been better) everything else in Sony has definitely been too good!
what I still couldn't figure out is, a pathetic company like HTC are selling more products but Sony is selling less? how could that be? has the consumers lost their mind?
till today, I, in my experience, have never seen a single 100% satisfied HTC customer and never a person using HTC phones for more than 1.5 yrs!

AnonD-278523, 14 Jan 2015I am a long time Sony user.. starting from my Bravia to ps4... moreYou think sony phones are quality?
Their camera is below average.
Their phones heat like a microwave.
And they're overpriced.
Where I live an s5 and a g3 cost lesser than a xperia z1.They look good and last long, i'll give you that but thats about it all.

About time. Xperia Z was great and paved a golden road ahead for Sony but they managed to blow it still, proving that they had none of the skills required to succeed.
Z3 Compact was their last chance to make something great but instead of a compact flagship they cane out with a pixellated midranger at a horrible high price, no wonder it flopped, they didnt even try to make it great. Still its the rest of their midrange that killed them, what a collection of totally underwhelming ugly things with low specs, and the M2 camera competes best with Chinese feature phones under $15.

I don't exactly know what were the terms and conditions during the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft. But is their a possibility that the Left over division of Nokia enters into join venture with Sony. More over now Nokia is open to the thought of making Android phones.(already in the pipeline)
Just a passing thought.

AnonD-87798, 14 Jan 2015First the company sold its PC division to another company &... moreI totally agree. I'm a fan, I use a Sony Xperia phone, I own a Vaio laptop and a Nex camera. It also made me sad. I think, the overhaul shouldn't be done soley on the products but in the management as well. I think polishing has to be done even faster. I believe they can do it. iPhone has the worst camera before but now they are some of the best. And honestly, Sony can pull off the best hardware, but image processing in Xperia phones should be improved a lot. If they're rx series and nex series are astonishing, why not make it in their cam phones? Solid image quality + uncompromised performance + higher IP rating + unique design = Superlative Genius Smartphone.

Well if they could repair their aftersales, maybe people would start consider buying their phones. Here in Indonesia, Sony's aftersales could take more than 4 months to repair your phones.

No wonder at all. Poor camera performance despite sporting 20 mp sensor ugly UI and higher price compared to other brands. About tv buisness well still it suffers from overpricing. For example LG offer very good tv sets with outstanding picture quality at very competitive price.

First the company sold its PC division to another company "to focus on its mobile division" (I exactly remember I read these words on that news!!
Now they are thinking to sell its mobile & TV division too? I mean is there any sort of management/think tank present in the HQ of SONY or they are just a bunch of idiots trying to sink the ship?
Since I got a personal phone, it was a Sony Ericsson and it has been a journey of more than 10 years now that I am still using an Xperia because I like using it also they are best in build quality and UI too.
Today I read this news which made me sad..very sad. I just wish that some miracle happens and they'd retain the mobile division because IT IS IMPROVING. they just need to change their strategy.
