jjsoviet, 14 Sep 2009Why won't we just get along and make a super-duper OS with ... moreOh I wish that could happen. Unfortunately EVERY company is just out for personal gain. They say they form alliances and what-not, but when you look at the situation clearly, it's all about the end result: Making money.

Through this is the success of their product and from there the consumer can let his/her ego go wherever, and determine haphazardly that his/her product is better than everyone else's. It's the same thing over and over again, and we are all victims of it.

Hopefully in the future there will be one "awesome Super phone company" and I'm sure everyone will love it. 'Til then, we'll just have to live with the ever-growing cynicism and child-like behaviour (over phones) =\.

nicksti, 13 Sep 2009You are right the news was derailed. Anonymous from nbuy is... moreNo, but I must admit that I've praised Maemo alot, but that's because it seriously need it. Unfortunately we all know Google will gain 50% of the market share sooner or later, with their influence and money, just look at all their monopolies... Maemo doesn't stand a chance. And that's the reason why I "market" it. The worst thing is that the majority doesn't know very much about Google, but on the other side, they know TOO much about you...

I'm simply an entusiaist, but I want to give EVERYONE a chance, and you know yourself that it's almost impossible to compete with Google, they have secured the monopoly. Maemo might never be considered as a competitor for the mobile OS race by the mainstream, simply because it lacks the funds (money). This is sad, since it's really a very nice OS, and the most open of them all, but I might have been a bit extreme towards it, but once again, why shouldn't all? We all know Maemo is a worthy competitor... and it DOES need publicity! Android gets it because sites with Android-tags get prefered by Google-searchs, and nearly 90% uses Google to search... so that's for my preferance...

...and of course I've seen some N900 hands-on, and it's a beautiful piece of software, but that isn't everything.

On a side note, do you know that Google's behaviour is illegal in some countries, because they do NOT allow any competition at all at some areas. That's kind of unfair, and that's also why I'll ALWAYS bash their software in that point of view, but in this case it's rather easy since Android isn't anywhere near the openess Maemo has.

Also kudos to GSMArena for not using Google Ads, as the most sites use nowadays... it's good to not only allow one player in the game!

[deleted post]Why won't we just get along and make a super-duper OS with all the strengths of other systems? That would be an awesome win-win situation right there.

200 Euros would be pretty amazing. Looks a bit like the palm pre.

Hope Motorola do a better job with it then they have done recently...

Capacitive touchscreen displays rely on the electrical properties of the human body to detect when and where on a display the user touching. Because of this, capacitive displays can be controlled with very light touches of a finger and generally cannot be used with a mechanical stylus or a gloved hand
the capacitive technology offers higher transparency. "It offers more than 90 percent transparency...

If you look at the true smartphone OSes out there you have Symbian, Symbian Touch, WinMo, and Android (exclusions for Rimm, Mac, Palm since they will probably never end up on another brand). Where you do expect Maemo to fall in, David? I suspect it will only be on their Tablet phone and nothing more. The success of Maemo would mean the death of Symbian S60 correct?

It is hard to predict a formula for success. But in Android's case the more phones that are coming on stream the better chance for success. Think about it, dying Motorola appears to have a nice Android phone in the DEXT.

This phone is very high on my list right now. But I do like Motorola (admitted bias).
