11 September, 2009
Motorola finally officially revealed their first device that runs on the latest Android OS dubbed Motorola DEXT internationally, except for the USA where it will be sold as CLIQ. This smartphone is the first high...

          This is getting nowhere.

Do not force us to believe that the Maemo is "teh best OS evvar", just based on the features, performance and support. If we think it's good, then it is. But if we think otherwise, don't come running and shout at us.

I can already imagine Maemo being the next Symbian, with more popularity than the Beatles and more features than a Swiss Army Knife. But do all people care? Obviously not. Will you get angry if we prefer Android and other systems?

Before this is happening many people praise Motorola as having a solid OS like the Android MotoBLUR. Then somebody comes along and spews off the Maemo bomb and all hell breaks loose. What's up with that?

The OHA was established on 5 November 2007, led by Google with 47 members including mobile handset makers, application developers, some mobile carriers and chip makers. Nokia, AT&T and Verizon Wireless are not members of the alliance. However, Verizon recently expressed a change of heart and a desire to use Android in the future, indicating that it may soon seek to join the Open Handset Alliance.[3] Android, the flagship software of the alliance, is based on an open source license and will compete against other mobile platforms from Apple, Microsoft, Nokia, Palm, Research In Motion, and Symbian., Audience,Broadcom Corporation,Intel Corporation,Marvell Technology Group…..

Or, 13 Sep 2009Lol! OWNED! That's pretty much the sum basic performance o... moreI know, it's kinda annoying. He's talking like Android market is sizzling with apps cause all of them companies that are so called working on the Android. There are like 34 apps in total on Android market, of whish 2 are actually usable, my brother has HTC Hero, so i know exactly what Android is all about. And it's been awhile since Android phones has been out, and yet the Android market is the poorest app center i have ever seen, there goes your 50 company exclusive club that doesn't actually care about Android.

Maemo 5 is gonna be huge, just wait, it's Nokia we are talking about, there is reason why they are on top of the food chain, they know exactly what they ar doing. Nokia made a hit out of a semi-good OS like Symbian, they will crush opposition with Maemo 5, which is 10 times better then Symbian.

And after awhile Samsung will come sniffing around the Maemo 5 as well, as usual, then it will unstoppable. I think N900 is just a test phone, Nokia will probably start putting Maemo in the E-series and other N-series devices by next year.

Funny me saying this, cause i use Windows Mobile and my HTC Touch HD.

Anonymous, 13 Sep 2009Hi; isn't this this going a bit off track here. We're suppo... moreYou are right the news was derailed. Anonymous from nbuy is either hired by Nokia to brainwash people or sleeps in Nokia pajamas.

But it is tiresome to see in every non-nokia news to see a reference about the N900. Should Nokia stop making any other phone and only make N900s? That I would like to know.

The Motorola DEXT looks good. It has good features. The only thing I need convincing about is Android as an OS. I have owned these OSes:

                            Mac Mobile OS
                            Symbian UIQ
                            Windows Mobile 6.1

I kind of gave up on WinMo so I am curious about 6.5.

If they want to make Maemo popular, then there is virtually nothing that can stop them. If the N900 software works good, than no one can stop Nokia from puttin the Maemo in their more commonly popular line ups. Whoever said symbian ha no 3rd party applications must be drunk. There is no OS that has as many 3rd party apps like Symbian, as it takes both Symbian and Java apps. If Nokia put the Maemo next year in most of their devices than Samsung will follow, which is a given, and then Maemo will the all cansuming monster that Nokia probably wants to make into. Motorola really need this, not to compete with Nokia, which is virtually impossible, but Moto need this to keep going. It would be a shame such a previously innovative pioneer would go under.

Anyway, I think that this phone is great, and will hopefully be getting one, especially if the price is low enough.

Well what exactly is Maemo? It is an OS based on Debian Linux for Nokia's Tablet devices. In order for the OS to be successful it needs to have three components:

                                        1. Stability
                                        2. Ease of Use
                                        3. Useful and plenty 3rd party applications

Symbian S60 5th Edition is already under scrutiny for a perceived lack of 3rd party applications. The N900 is an expensive device (rumoured 500 euros) and will not be commonly owned. This is not the iPhone.

We will see what happens. But I wouldn't break the bank to buy stock in Maemo. You cannot look at acceptance of technology from a "which one is more advanced" standpoint. HD DVD had many advantages over Blu Ray but lost the battle relatively quickly. Maemo will be great if many people own Maemo devices and there is plenty of support. Otherwise it will just be a great idea that did not pan out.
