In fact, most of the specs in today's flagships are purely pointless gimmickry for 95% of the people 95% of the time; octacore processor, 20MP camera, 4GB of RAM. The vast majority of users don't really need this stuff, but the phone companies do, to fool people into buying a new phone every year ;)

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2015You do realize that the S6's screen is significantly dimmer... moreWhat a stupid comment s5 has 2800 mah which is higher than s6 battery u sud pat sammy on there back that inspite having a lower powered battery on s6 they were able to get a very good endurence.
and i know 4k on s6 screen is too much and not everyone will buy the gear vr for s6 but that does not mean s6 screen is bad the brightness level differs a lot on settings if u keep it auto brightness or manual
even for no microsd card and nonremoveable battery there is a valid reason they have which apple never had with there iphones... but ur comment just shows the limit of blind hate...lol..get a life dude..

Samsung is cheating by using less bright screens with more pixels and thus they can use a similar battery capacity as the S5 with less pixels but a brighter screen.
One thing compensates the other and stupid people don't even realize this?

there is so much more to display than just pixel density, like wider range of color space, wider contrast and brightness, any 720p display with wider gummut would trash gazilion ppi any time :) but world is broken....

Back then probably you complained about 1080P also and now this. You probably don't know what GearVR is.

This is more a concept product to show Sharp's ability and one possible in the future. Come on guys, Sharp never said they are selling a phone with this dislay right now, and I doubt there is any soc could drive 4K resolution smooth yet

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2015Its just another dumb trend. Anything above 720p is overkil... moreI second you, bud. Let's stop the nonsense, people.
1080p should only be used by 5.5" and over. People sacrifice important, tangible things like battery endurance, processor efficiency, and real-world performance for vanity such as ppi and synthetic benchmarks. I won't be getting any phones with over 720p anyways b/c I won't get anything over 5.5"!!!
Geeks don't measure their man-parts anymore - they measure their antutu scores. Processor efficiency? Ha! That's why the current 64-bit phones have worse real-world performance AND battery life than their previous generation 32-bit flags! Don't make me laugh! The only reason the S6 has good performance/battery life is because of the way that AMOLED subpixel consumption works.

I think its not about human eyes distunguishing or not...
Its more about battery life, processing power, etc... I'm still on 720p. I would be very happy on a 1080p, but that's the end of it.
I know that once we were saying that we don't need 1080p, but there's a limit, right?
I know GalaxyS6 is performing solid and giving good battery too... But still, 1440p is 3.7 megapixels, while 4K is 8 Megapixels.
Its possible, but are we sure we want to do it? do we need it?

Ahmedinoh, 13 Apr 2015Let's see what battey (MAH) can handle that screen ! same battery. lamp size won't change and transistor will consume less power, than the big one.

wow how awesome. seriously? 4k on a 5.5 in display panel , how geeky!!! wonder what marketing gimmicks are gonna be sold with devices with this kind of panel cos dear old uncle sammy pushes the galaxy line with the false hope of makin the gear VR available to as many ppl as posible and they are doped into buying the notes and now the s6 has a similar VR contraption lined up for fellas like us to lap up the s6 mates. good luck to dev teams creating socs and power sources to keep the future devices lasting half a day coz so far as seen the SD810 has heating issues and the others will follow with so much data to work with honestly i dont see this as a need its a fatal draw back in real life 1080p on any device at 5.5 in or below is enough. this sort of stuff will make more sense on 8, 9 or 10in+ tabs.
chears mates

While it is impressive if they actually create a 806ppi display, it's pretty useless since the human eye cannot differentiate from 700ppi and up.
The only way you could differentiate betweeen a 700ppi display and a 806+ppi display is if you basically smash your face against the phone's screen.
Do you look at your phone from 2 inches of distance?
If you do, then get the 806ppi display! (im being sarcastic of course).
The average distance for viewing a cell phone is aounr 18", so it is quite ridiculous to start producing screens with such high PPI's.
Since they will be undetectable to the human eye.

It was worth waiting, now just wait for device.
4k device will be top until 6k/8k/?k comes, and it will not so soon.
Now just add a Gear and watch...play...

Its just another dumb trend. Anything above 720p is overkill in phones. (1080p is good for monitors, tablets.) Only brain washed people support this pointless gimmicky trend that phones have unnecessarily high screen resolution. Manufacturers manipulate people so people think that they need it. (Manufacturers can sell junks thanks to marketing hype.)
At least they should add an option (as PCs have) to reduce the system's resolution. Or make a variant of the same phone that has the same hardware, but has lower resolution.
The improvements in GPU/CPU efficiency and battery capacity will be wasted on the higher screen resolution. What a pointless waste. Just imagine what that hardware could give you with lower screen resolution!
