My newest forced Samsung software update (August 2017) has totally screwed up my phone....many websites now show the product description and information so damn tiny that it cannot be seen...can't zoom in...can't read prices or information. It happens on amazon, walmart, sears, and other sites just to name a few!

About 4 months ago my Samsung s5 battery was draining power out of the ordinary, I took my phone in to my local Telstra shop in Broome I was given a replacement S5 with all my date transfered across using smartswitch the phone went off for repair and a week later they sent me a new phone. Just 5 weeks ago I did the recommended Samsung software upgrade and my phone got very hot and just had the Samsung logo pulsing in and out until it completely died. I am a volunteer for an emergency service and I have been without that phone until today whilst it was sent to Samsung for repair. Meanwhile Telstra loaned me a phone which has been just about useless with no contacts and unable to even send a simple text message. The phone was flat when I picked it up the battery not having been charged whilst it was sitting in the Telstra shop all that time. I brought it home plugged it in and it got hot and the Samsung logo waved in and out for a while before it completely died. I am now completely without a phone and have been on to Telstra complaints. Who suggest I cancel my plan with them and pay for the remainder of my phone and get this they will waive my cancellation fee. I am on a two year plan and they have had over $2000 already and they have the nerve to say this. The Telstra shop have not been very helpful, I have been in to see them over and again, I have rang them, I have been on the phone to Samsung and now this. I am totally disgusted with Telstra trying to sell me another phone and a plan costing more than what I already pay. Telstra complaints tell me that the process has to be followed. I am back to the Telstra store tomorrow no doubt so that they can send it off again for repair. Well I have had enough of pleasantries. Telstra and Samsung shame on you for all the people you have dupped and got more money from when you need to start standing up and being accountable, treating your customers with the service they deserve.

AnonD-674263, 03 Jun 2017I took mine to the Samsung support centre today- they said ... moreSitting at Samsung store in Melbourne Central. Staff were great. Took phone to do a firmware download on my Galaxy s5. Telstra wanted to charge $300 even though it only affects phones with their SIM cards in it.

Firmware reset takes 15 minutes but you do lose everything which doesn't matter as i have factory reset it 3 times.

Got onto Samsung chat line and as I live 3 hours from a Samsung technician I eventually got them to send me a consignment note so I can send my S5 back to Samsung for ässessment'' and repair after frying my S5 because of their negligence. I kept on insisting this would be at their expense. At least they have paid for freight. Will see what happens from here.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2017Easy fix !! Download kies to your computer and do a firmwar... moreNot so easy! And it's not called kies anymore, it's samsung switch. I have this issue & I have tried all of the above except downloading the firmware again because I have a mac & odin doesn't like mac's! Well I haven't done a factory reset because I don't want to lose my info.
Took it to my local Telstra shop - what a joke! I told them the problem & they said that the first thing that the techs do is wipe all the information. Nice. They told me it was a Samsung issue however it seems to affect only Telstra phones! I could be wrong on that though.
So off to samsung store tomorrow.
Good thing I've got a spare phone, but even though I'm certain everything was saved to sim, nothing is there. I hope my sim card wasn't affected too!!

Is Samsung owning up to another Software Upgrade disaster on the S5 in 2017. Like many others on these and other pages, the upgrade has rendered the Phone unusable in any form. Apparently, need to send it to a tech? Bit hard when in a remote part of Australia and if you need your phone for work, home etc.

Makes me wonder what quality control and testingis down before they release these upgrades. This is one is like a Virus of Samsung's own making! Another disaster .

I took mine to the Samsung support centre today- they said they'd had 40 S5 phones back in the last 2 days due to this update problem- apparently, it affects Telstra customers. He said that people should know that they DON'T need to do a factory reset in order to get their phone working again- of course I already had! So he sorted it out, and I was super happy, but after getting home and getting the phone all set up again, it suddenly went to almost 16GB of memory used, and was essentially the same problem all over. Except now my phone has absolutely nothing on it due to the factory reset!! So now I'm heading back to the service centre again...what a joke.

Vic trch, 01 Jun 2017This can be fixed through using samsung kies on your comput... moreThis suggestion doesn't work. I have tried it several times and so did the local telecommunications distributor - without success. I have been in contact with Samsung twice and their only advice is to let a Samsung technician assess my phone although we have no service centres within a 100km radius of our town apparently. Samsung appears unable to give any information about when they may have a patch/fix for this problem so the solution I have had to come to - ditch my S5 and buy a new phone

I have the same issue with my S5 SM-G900I after update.
Shortly after the update I got a message that the system storage is low and after that the phone was restarted and got stuck on Samsung logo.
I did clear the cache, this did not help.
I did factory reset and lost all my data. Again, after not long the system storage was full.

                            I found the following:
                            1. After power off/on my used system storage was about 8Gb.
                            2. The used system storage was increasing all the time, even with Wifi off, about 50Mb every few seconds until you get system storage full.
                            3. You unable to updated the phone directly again. It asks you to use SmartSwitch.
                            4. If you switch the phone off/on before it reaches full used system storage, in most cases the used system storage will be low again, in my case 8Gb.
                            5. If you don’t switch the phone off before it reaches full used system storage the phone will switch off and you will to do factory reset.

So if you want to use you phone you can by switching it for short time before it reaches full used system storage.

This is the best virus by Samsung.

I am sure there are tens of thousands people with this case. Most people might not know that the reason for their phone failure is the update. Many will buy a new phone. I think people should be inform of this issue but not sure how.

I think the fix will need to be by downloading a new software in installing it. Most people might have issue with doing this. So this is a big problem from my point of view.

This can be fixed through using samsung kies on your computer and doing a firmware upgrade and installation . All information will still be lost but will fix issue. Hold power vol down and home button to enter recovery mode

Phone crashed, and then will not boot or even power on normally. I need to leave battery out for half an hour in order to get recovery or download mode.

maybe plug into power as while boot looping or frozen battery will dissipate and expect handset to get hot and Samsung splash screen to stay present during software restoration for around 15-20mins unfortunately all information will be lost

My phone has done the same. It keeps doing a rolling setup and won't let me past the 1st few screens. Lost all my data and photos. I live 3 and a half hours from a service centre so had to buy a new phone as that is all I have. My telstra store also checked my phone and they had already had 3 in this morning.
