As long as Nokia keeps producing mid range and low end phones like they have been doing, they will be able to experiment with high end devices with as little concern as possible. Don't people see? Nokia is the market leader, and can do what the hell it likes. Apple will never budge it from that position, only MAYBE Samsung.

just shows how Nokia are struggling with there sales nowdays, the others are drawing more people buying there phones instead of Nokia,an this is really a bad idea by Nokia,to boost sales you offer something at a reasonable price, but this really shows how Nokia want to change there strategy very quickly or they will not be successful anymore,

It's one of desperate move from nokia, their handset keeps falling behind in sales compare to the competitors, yet they're still doing the worst trick in marketing : cheating loyal customers & repeating mistakes from their past,so it's clear now what's ahead in 2010 for nokia :

1)The market leader position will have a new winner, unless nokia could come up with a remarkable product like they did in the first launch of N-series.

2)The high end market will be ruled by either HTC,Apple,Blackberry, and even Samsung might have a chance in this position, don't expect too much on N900,that'll be a nasty failure like N97.

3)The middle range market will also be hard for nokia,as Samsung,LG and not to mention the dying SE could make their return to make nokia loose here.

4)As for the low end, various chinese brands and others---same old news,Samsung & LG are also here---already penetrate nokia's market.

The only thing that keep nokia from free fall to the abyss in 2009 is the brand, along with support from loyal fans, but let's just see how long it'd last.

Nokia is old,too tired to fight,it's time for their long hibernation, just give it up to others.

A typical case of "YOU PAY MORE FOR LESS." Personally I would go for the N97 especially with the v.20 software upgrade available now.

                      This is great phone:
                      - (firmware v20) Great Software
                      - Every feature you want
                      - Size that doesn't look like PSP (brick) in your hand and build quality (not N97 plastic on the back).
                      - It's looks (only n900 is better and may be the new droid)
But with that price it woun't come anywhere. Hope that Nokia changes its mind cuz with good price this would be best-seller (not too low, certanly not that high)

in this trying time and with so many phones in the market, selling this phone with that price is stupid. only apple can get away with that kind of price. nokia is not apple. they don't have the fans and steve jobs.

Agree. Mini look good. I prefer mini than n97. But mini pricing positioning will kill to phone. I guess i will stick with 5800. One word love it 5800. I just help my friend update N97 firmware to v20. Nice feel kinetic. Wonder if 5800 will have kinetic or not?

to begin with, n97 did not sell well and now they want to sell this smaller version at a higher price? only the critics and maybe people at nokia wewre the only group of people praising N97 and this phone but in terms of sales i don't think it's doing well. And with samsung and LG so aggresive nowadays , nokia have become just a follower and not the innovator loke they used to be so i think it's just a matter of time before those two korean companies overtake them.
