this is not practical.
- wats wrong with unlocking a phone by just pressing 2 buttons?
- it cant be applied to a touchscreen
- no matter wat material its made of, it will be easy to break or bend cos its so thin and long
- the more durable the material, the more expensive the phone
- more mechanisms r needed inside the phone to understand what to do wen the hook is flipped or slides. this means a phone has to be made thicker
- the hook and the mechanism behind it is another part of the phone which can go wrong and if it goes wrong u cant do anything at all with ur phone
- according to the article one of its purposes is to make the phone smaller. how can a prodcuer make a phone smaller by adding another part to the phone? also even if the phone was made smaller, there comes a time wen the buttons become too small. and what is wrong with a phone which fits in ur pocket easily and has bigger buttons? also look at neonode n2. it was a tiny phone smaller than most phones. it was smaller cos it was only a touchscreen and no keypad. if a phone is gna get any smaller and still remain as practical, it has to lose the keypad. in this case the hook wont apply.

so there is no advantage in hving the hook.

I do not see the intrigue about this at all. I don't think I'd like to have this on my phone.

it's interesting, but useless. i'm sure not many people mind unlocking their phones by the press of two buttons, which just isn't that awkward to justify the hook. actually, people should find the hook inconvenient, especially if you want to use the camera. i can't see how placing the microphone in the hook will make the phone smaller, since the microphone will still exist, even if it's placed somewhere else. you also have the swivel mechanisem which will take some space. on top of that, the future belongs to touchscreen phones.

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea... I mean it looks ugly and can be easily breakable... I want a good looking phone, so no HOOK!!

I think this is a test article launched by the big telecom sharks like nokia, samsung, to see how the world takes it. If we yell "this is awesom" they will go 4 it. It not, they will drop it.

I dont advise an electro mechanical solution. Sony failed with a similar mo0del (side drawn mic). I would still prefer a fool proof software approach. a clam shell and even candy bat type is more sturdy. My two cents

Probably it can has a use in all terrain, shock proof, water proof phones that can be used by mountaineers.
The hook can be useful to attach the phone to their body.
And yeah why not get a Swiss army knife at the back. Must be cherished by the handful buyers.

I suppose there are still a lot more better ways to improve the ergonomics of key-locking, and as for me, it isn't one of those better ways..

So if I want to play games on this I have to flip the hook down first?
it's a really nice idea for cheap talk&text phones but for future hi-tech (touch screen etc) I don't think this will work.

If it was all like the flip style, I'd rather just press the original buttons. Makes it so much easier.

I think its quite practical but agree that it would brake easily if some precautionary steps isn't taken.Like when you bend it too far it clicks off automatically to avoid damage..almost like Sony Ericsson headphones. But it's an excellent idea especially in the development of small cellphones. For example a mini touchscreen phone that works like a clamshell but instead uses the hook
