A new HOOK cellphone design breaks from the bar form factor

05 November, 2009
We stumbled upon a new intriguing mobile form factor concept coming from Brazilian designer Fabio Dabori. The so-called HOOK promises to innovate the keypad locking mechanism and push the future...

Why can't you just press the button to unlock without the slide out mechanism that increases the cost of the phone and makes it fragile.

I think Hook needs some development, because the shown figure is not that much of an attraction, and at least the feel of the device, will be some how odd to me. the slide one shown on nokia sample. is good, if there is a wider hook (which surrounds the numbpad), and specialy slide out, with press of a button. i think that would be great.

I think that touch screen pones are the way forward.
The most that can be improved in design should be the QWERTY keyboard most of which are slide-out so that the screen can be as large as possible.
To design a new form factor for non touch phones looks like going nowhere.
It is a bit too late.

rubbish idea and jesus i wish i was paid the same sort of money to come up with ideas like this .

Innovative but cumbersome design: may take the "secrecy" out the current mode of key input!

why dont put a hook on ur watch?
why dont put a hook on ur computer?
or put a hook on ur printer?
                  a hook on ur modem?
a hook on ur LCD monitor?
                  a hook on ur mouse?
                  a hook on ur keyboard?
                  a hook on ur shirt?
                  a hook on ur underwear?
what else can u think of to hook something on?

smart, but stupid, unless its made with un-breakable materials AND the roots of it is tightly connected to the phone with noway of it being the weak point, only than it might be viable.

either ways its a new idea, and new ideas are always welcomed

                            i like it
but in my experience all phones with moving parts have problems with the joints
bar form factor is solid and unless u give it some serious shocks, ur phone is likely to break because of something else, way before u manage to destroy its "chassis".

I think it's not that useful, because it's too thin and easy to break. And be very disturbing if it was used as a mic, because when someone will receive the call was too much trouble. Keep up the good work guys

Its a new innovation, but it might get headache to lock/unlock the phone everytime. Someday the hook might break and spoil the basic need of locking/unlocking the phone.

A flip-down microphone! That hasnt been done before has it? um...

Handsets like the n96 have had slide cathces to unlock keys and that takes up less space than a silly little hook so that renders its claim to make smaller handsets irrelevant.

Im afraid this 'innovation' is 5 years too late and even then I dont think it would have caught on...why? Cos it looks ridiculous!

jeez that was lame, what a headline for something thats not even innovative. i do not beleive for 1 minute that any of the manufactureres have not come up with this basic design concept already an just chucked it out with the rest of the lame ideas.
