Another OS? Really not needed. If each and every manufacturer brings its own OS, then it will be complicated to user. Already WinMo, Andronoide there, and if till Samsung wants some more he should modify OS by his own (Like HTC did with WinMo.)
Developer could develope software better on constant platform and not by to modify each and every time for manufacturer.
Hope Andronoide + Samsung idea is better, as Nokia still has no plan for andronoide.

if this platform is to succeed it will have to be available not just at the top end of the market. the company is certainly capable of designing a good user interface.

It IS (due yesteryear already) time that Samsung should step up its game with its own mobile OS. Winmo is too slow on its feet and others are so dependent for hw specs.

A quick read at the bada homepage seems to suggest an smarphone-system to replace their standard os.
Looking at for example Samsung Jet, you almost got yourself an smartphone, today. But this new BADA system should give you full smarphone capabilities, access to hardware...

Today it seems Nokia will aime to make Symbian S60, the new all-around OS, found in quite basic model, at least up to mid-segment and perhaps lower high-segment.
So BADA should be a competitor for that Symbian S60 not the top of the line smartphone OS it used to be.

That leaves the low-low end segment, propably staying with the same OS samsung Use today. (nokia will propably replace almost all S40 models with S60, but then they might upgrade S30 lineup to S40, if they can keep the price down).
The buisiness line, what nokia will do here lies in the future.
Samsung will probably do this with one of the OS already in their portfolio... Android?

At last, we have the experience line-up. In this line-up you need both a graphic rich UI, lots of third party software, and good performance all over (music, internet, widgets, video, taking stills, recording video... and so on). At this moment WinPhone, Symbian or Andoid doesnt cut it. This might change in the future, and this might be why Samsung is experimenting with all kinds of OS.
The problem here, is that the manufacor wants to deliver an UI experience not found in other segments, it should feel exclusive. With the BADA, in theory Samsung could make a totally redesigned version for this lineup, while keeping compatibility with loads of apps. Using Android, Limo, WinPhone, Symbian, will force them to base the experience on what you find in low segment smartphones, that is the downside of pricedrops in smartphone category.

Its not a bad move from samsung to announce new OS at this point of time but the real challenge is will they be able to compete with the existing OS.I feel that they just want to make their presence in all aspects but i doubt whether they can live upto the expectations...

As I can see it bada will simply replace Samsung proprietary OS on their non-smartphones just like Nokia is using more and more symbian for mid and even low end devices. If they do that that won't be one more OS as it will be a direct replacement of an existing one. If not... yes, one more OS won't be that good. And if Samsung acts the same way as Emodio on their mp3 players... situation will be terrible.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2009unless this "bada" os is ultra amazing, flawless, has a ui ... moreSamsung will still support WIMO, LIMO, And Android of course. All three going to be GREAT operating systems.
What Samsung is trying to do is get recognition for developing software technology. So, Samsung invests $$$ to lure software developers, Create a Samsung OS team and integrate Applications to a new Linux Based Operating system, which will be LAG free and easy to use. I think integration of software is a smart move by Samsung.

Remember, Samsung will always have hardware advantages compared to the rest of the field. Now, they are trying to capitalize on their giant size to create a great OS. If Sammy can create BADA OS to be a hit with EUROPEAN and American consumers, the price of the Samsung phones will drop. Which Price is a big factor in demand.
