as always, the mp will increase but not the quality
hopefully this will break the curse and no only record actual non glitching HD but play back mkv's and stuff smooth weather outputting or just on the cell

ok, this is stupid
20 mpx = medium format and 5d mk II realms (witch cost thens of thousands of dolers (for body + lens) and they berly scratch that pixel count ...)
a mobile phone dosn't touch more than 1-2 mpx max(optical resolution ) let alone 12-20 ...
normal 19 inch monitor = 1280x1024 a 1.2 mpx photo whould look crystal clear on such a monitor (if it whoul be a good quality picture)
wide screen 22 inch = 1600x900 a 1.5 mpx photo whould look cristal clear on such a monitor
wide screen 24 inc = 1920x1200 a 2 mpx photo whould look cristal clear on such a monitor
with a mobile phone you don't get more than 1-2 mpx (even if it has a 12 mpx sensor) because it is based on interpolation and the lens can't resolve more than this amount of detail (even if the sensor is smaller and the lens may be smaller... it just dosn't have the place to fit the lens or the price would be to big in order to put a good quality optics)
now that's in good light... imagine if there is less light - the sensor has to increase the gain (iso) and the quality drops even further (and considering the sensor size and quality... nothing more than iso 200 is acceptable :( )
so in short :
1.with 20 mpx you get worse quality (because the processing power goes to the interpolation and creating of detail, when it could actually go to wb ... )
2.very big file size
3.slower operating (hence nr.2)
4.slower burst (henge nr.2)
5.slower browsing on phone and on computer(hence nr.2)
6.slower sending to friends (hence nr.2)
7.have to get much bigger card (get the point i presume )
8.worse iso performance (denser pixels on sensor = less light is actually getting by = increase in iso for same result )
9.10.... you get the point
good points:
1080p recording - if it can capture an acceptable 2 mpx (1920x1080) picture it will be able to capture an acceptable 1920x1080 video (if the codec is good and it hase the processing power )
1080p output (on mobile is useless but on tv... great )
i am all for advances in tech... but i need advances in quality in the same time, and 20mpx on such a small sensor and such a small and cheap lens is more of a downfall :(
this chip is great for video, but if they implement it with a 20 mpx camera it's a waste
if a xxxx$ camera system can barely achieve that rez (and even then in just some cases) how could a much smaller an muuuuuch cheaper gadget could !!??

My 5MP Nikon can still take better pics than any phone. 20MP is nothing without a good lens

It is awesome to have a phone to take picture at 10MP or higher, and 1080p video to show on tv. It should come out in 2010!!!

in 2005 we were at about 2MP and 3.2MP. 4 years later in 2009 now, we're at 12MP. If in another 2 years in 2011 we're gonna be 16-20MP, then 10 years after that, we could very well be in the 40 or 50MP range...man this is getting ridiculous...i do appreciate the 1080p component though.

o m g↲this is amazing. the future is here. 128 mb of graphic m. wow but not enough. nvidia will release more. wow all o that in one tiny device. phone, gaming m, video player/ rec, wifi, pda, camera, m storage, m touch, projector, whats next. i think that developers will put more energy in vr. because there is nothing left to put in a pc, nothing. and i dont mean lte or 3.0 usb. next step of it evolution is vr. but as in surrogates it doesnt look that good.

Broadcom is the king! Stop thinking about phone. You should be thinking about buying Broadcom stock:)
It is not about do U need 20MP or not. When they give U 20MP with the same price, people will buy it. Maybe 16MP is good but it is not good if every other phone is 20MP.

Good Image quality doesnt mean high Megapixels!
The ocular optics, processor and the camera software together needs improvements not the megapixels.
5 Megapixels with all good implements of these 3 points ive listened can do better videos or pictures than one with 8 or 12 megapixels!
CAMERA SOFTWARE + PROCESSOR+ OPTICS = Good QUality

ya 20 mps, but how about the quality? In a phone? really doubting. Cheap, brand less, low quality cameras that can record hd videos/images can be found anywhere these days. It's not just in the pixel count. Number of pixels can surely amaze but it can surely fool too.

20 Megapixels? Try 530, then I might start getting aroused, then I might start pondering where it could all end. Until then, this news has the distinct reek of pish to me

Sounds like some really amazing technology! I want the video and photo quality to be top notch on my cameraphone so dont have to carry round 2 gadgets! Cant wait to see this chip in action, only downer is have to wait to 2011!!! Give this to Samsung and see what they can do! Give it to Sony and wait til 2013 lol
