as we can wee that some people in this forum don't use professional language to convey their thoughts.. please change that attitude.
Sony Ericsson is loosing money again , but this does not mean that they are out from business , we all know that they had set backs for the last 2 years and the new management is working round the clock to fix this .
the only time that we can say that Sony Ericsson is in danger is at the end of 2010.... 2010 will be the time were all the structural changes will occur and only in 2011 Sony Ericsson will be able to stand on its feet again ..
no company is perfect and sometimes companies collapse and re start from beginning ,, i believe that Sony Ericsson will make a new start at the end of 2010 and whatever you see now is the transition period from the mistakes of the past .
we all have to accept that every prestigious mobile company have contributed to the market in innovations and technology , , we cant just come and say bad words to a company ... here we are talking about multi billion dollar companies and businesses ,, and it can not be summoned in couple of words as some people say in this forum .
first we have to have some respect to all then we shall be able to read your comments
I still believe that Sony Ericsson have started their metamorphosis and in 6 months time they will improve their market share by introducing mobiles that suits the crowd but not necessary to everyone .
i understand that Sony Ericsson want to reduce the number of handsets and to concentrate on the high end and very high end phones and couple of mid range too.. they will not have anymore low end phones ...
look at iphone , it has only 1 product or 2 in production and making big profits ,, so we dont need actually many ,many phones to make a company profitable ,, Sony Ericsson needs couple of good phones that can provide all the necessary features that a normal user requires.
on the other hand not many people around us know to use all the features of a phone , 80% of the population they even dont care for all the features that we talk and say ,, most of the people care to have nice looking phone with good calling and messaging capabilities and thats last long .
Finally I come to say that Sony Ericsson has done a good job so far and their mobile phones have echoed in our hearts and still do ,, so let us have the positive competition in hand .

I'm sad because my first ever phone whas a SE. I hope they will recover the loss and makeit on the market, they have a great deal of phones and if the market wasen't coverd by nokia whit all the propaganda SE whood been 1'st place. I think they shouldn't invest from now on in new tehnology because they are far allready and the consumers dosen't need new stuffs to buy a phone. Classic is good, small and easy to use is better! I read meany reviews and they show that allmost 20% like's touchscreens and the rest preffers the old, classic shape and functionality...so if SE want to recover the loss it should go for this kind of market....remeamber..CLASSIC IS GOOD. The advantege of nokia is that they have a big vareity of models and many are at a low cost and pryce's....beacuse the exapansive one's dosen't sell that good...i now beacuse i work in retail selling market of mobile phones....and in my country (Romania) nokia sells a lot of the low pryce phones....for the high pryce's type SE, samsung and HTC sells better...so....make and sell low cost and pryce's modells. I hope i'd been helpfull.

Sony has to do a lot to improve. Getting the 'MASS MARKET' means only one thing 'India' and 'China'. As far as i know, in India 5k to 10k market is very big one. If they roll out a really good phone in this range. They will surely catch the market. Its as simple as this. Remember what samsung did. They introduced Star 5230. The touch screen was the key to the magic. They sold a million phones when Star costing 9k. Now its corby corby all over. definitely samsung has done it. They made a mark. This how you do it. Make the 'MASS COME TO YOU'. This cant be done with a phone which is 30k and 40k.

Gamma Sharma, 24 Jan 2010Things which can save SE: 1) Capture the CDMA market. ... moreI like too the P series, I like the design of the old P series. :) Maybe they will continue those series, about Walkman, I think we will see only mid-end devices not high-end ones. About Cyber-Shot, I think the U series will replace the C series. SE wants to introduce optical zoom to their phones.

Anonymous, 24 Jan 2010Look I'm not saying what you've suggested are generally bad... moreYou are right, I mean how many new phones are added lately into their profile. I honestly lost count but I think they are ENOUGH now. What they need is to have a break from working on new phones, finish working and release their new range to public, sit back, get drunk, look around the world and than gather up to work on 2 flagship masterpieces.
And not to forget they need lots and lots of advertisements, TV commercial, web banners and proper video reviews.

Gamma Sharma, 24 Jan 2010a) Introduce biometric id / security system in your mobile ... moreLook I'm not saying what you've suggested are generally bad but those are best reserved for yet another category of cellphone altogether.Issue here is that SE are bleeding on MASS MARKET and frankly 1 of the reason are due to over-reach.For example this latest Greenheart initiative.I'm all for less polluting and/or resource conserving phones but the timing's just bad.If anything SE seriously needs to trim down their current featurephones' lineup, get lean and underscore clarity for their smartphone strategy OS-wise and above all be very very brutal at making decisions. They can't repeat Nokia's mistake at placing premiums on outdated phone techs (and yet that's what they did and look what happened to that..) but start to crank gears like Samsung.

Gamma Sharma, 24 Jan 2010a) Introduce biometric id / security system in your mobile ... moreYou are asking too much.
Finger-print reader? Geez - think about the size increase that will induce. Face recognition? What, you wanna increase the price of already expensive phones by another US$300? Projector? Add another US$1000 and you'll get it.
Basically, I ain't trying to flame you, but SE can get back on its feet with small baby steps at a time.
I think the Walkman and Cybershot lineup were OK, but their feature-set (hardware wise) was utter crap. No Xenon in the Cyber-shot range is foolish. No DSPs in the Walkman range is too.
And yeah... SE needs an overhaul in the higher-up management; they're too greedy and busy depositing their pay-checks. But what can anyone do when it is the CEO and downwards whose causing the issue...

a) Introduce biometric id / security system in your mobile phones. The front camera can id the user for security or can adjust settings accordingly, and biometric finger print reader on the side for security.
b) With the advent of gesture recognition system, introduce virtual keyboards which can project the full size qwerty keyboard on the table surface and recognize the finger movements.
c) Mobile with projector attachments which can project up to a screen size of 14" HD.
d) Outdoor rugged mobile with solar charger, compass, altimeter Biometry etc.
e) Integration of TrackID with the walkman player for tagging the songs correctly with info, lyrics and album art in all the formats (aac and wma too) via the internet.

Gamma Sharma, 24 Jan 2010Change the management. Period. Then are clueless as to what... moreI am with you in bringing P-series back, specially P5. Actually now a days I am working on a new P5 design, sketch is very much complete. I also like the idea of your smart stylus.
Maybe if you are (or anyone else) interested to see this link I worked on:
http://hedezines.deviantart.com/art/Concept-Sony-Ericsson-Swift-151420030
It's nothing very hifi or futuristic, just practical approach, you can say a babystep before I prepare myself for something little big.

SE is Lame, 24 Jan 2010**** ur memory sticks, its the reason i don't buy your came... moreUh were have you been... SE dropped those already. Now they're onto Unlimited Entertainment, and Xperia phones. No more Walkman and Cyber-Shot already which, FYI, has been really successful. In 2008 Walkman phones alone beat the number of sales of iPods, plus the Cyber-Shot series has been really successful too! Sony Ericsson was even known to have the best imaging experience. Now they merged it and made Entertainment Unlimited. Also they're dropping the fastport and M2 cards already. Where the hell have you been?

Things which can save SE:
1) Capture the CDMA market.
2) Capture the low-end market of monochrome touchscreen and qwerty phones, low end walkman players( the under Rs.5k Market).
3) Capture the Rs.5000/- to Rs. 10,000/- market.
4) PSP: Introduce low (NGageQD Form factor with 2MP AF cam with LED Flash and Shake control), mid (slider, accln meter, touch screen and 3.2MP AF cam wit flash and dual shock) and high end(touch screen and gesture control and 5MP/8MP AF with LED Flash) gaming phones with PSP-GO or Nokia NGageQD form factor with 240x320 and 320x240 resolution.
5) CyberShot: Reserve Xenon for only CyberShot models, introduce Optical zoom (atleast 3X optical), touch screen.
6) Walkman: Introduce more low end with 320x240 resolution with good AF cameras but with LED flash only. Ship them with blue tooth stereo headsets which can be docked with the mobile for charging like a smart stylus.
7) P Series: The UIQ might be dead but please continue the P-Series (my personal favorite). Please launch the p5i with acceln meter and ROCK-QWERTY sliders.
8) Smart Stylus: Introduce smart stylus the proximity to which the phone can detect. This can be used for interacting with the mobile in zooming and scrolling.
9) Smart Screen: Better than touch screens, incorporate gesture control for navigating the menu, maps and photos.
10) Lastly, dont be stingy on the feature front where you remove features for the name sake.
