Microsoft announces the all new Windows Phone 7 Series platform

15 February, 2010
Well, the wait is over. Microsoft finally let the cat out of the bag and Windows Mobile 7 (or Windows Phone 7 Series) as MS calls it, is now official. The first phones should start selling by this year’s holiday season...

Awesome to see Microsoft shoot themselves in the foot like this. The main reason people bought WM devices was for 1) formal business use and 2) to put on cool looking skins and UIs as shown by phone manufacturers. WM 7 has none of either.

First thought, it's Microsoft's version of the MEphone, optimized for finger control.

Second thought, Bing service instead of Google. If the phone is optimized for Bing, I will switch to Bing as mobile search engine. Map search is also important.

Yet, I am not sure about the Microsoft internet browser, file management program, and etc...

Overall, I have mixed reactions about the phone.

i dont't really see target for this O/S.
WinMo was the O/S for small business orientated users who couln't afford blackberry.
second were the windows fanboys, who thought, wniMo is as open as the desktop version.

the small business is no target for WinMo7.
and the fun and gadget geeks are lost to android and won't ever come back to any WinMo.

motopen1s, 15 Feb 2010So far, I have not seen how is it business/enthusiast orien... moreI agree. To me, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and any other social networking, life updating, privacy destroying services, seem to be the only thing that everyone is doing now a days. Myspace was the biggest thing on the net in 2003, and look at it now. Facebook is the new king, and I promise you, it will fall in a few years as well, because these things are just fads. Yes, they do provide a simple and easy way to keep in contact with your friends and family, but not everyone uses them. I, personally, don't use it, and I keep in contact with my co-workers, girlfriend, friends, and family just fine. I don't update them every 10 minutes telling them what kind of bagel I'm going to buy, when I'm at line at Dunkin Donuts. To see Microsoft center their new Phone OS around this "pattern" is dissapointing. What I love about the current Windows Mobile is the orginization, and customization. That seems to be gone, because Microsoft is simplifying everything.

I applaud Microsoft for Windows 7, for PCs. They simplified, but they didn't dumb it down to the point that you can't customize it. Now with 7 Mobile, it seems that the days of wildly customizing your phone are over, and it's replaced with a bunch of squares on your main screen. I really hope that there's more to what meets the eye here.

they try to make a copy of iphone os, hoping it will be as successful as the iphone. only MS ist forgetting, that they are failing their old customers, and the market where the iphone is on isn't infinitly big. i see no place for winmo next to bada, symbian, maemo (or meego), android etc. besides, they will lose their business customers to apple or blackberry, so MS will never be more successful than they are now, unlike PC business, no one depends on windows in the mobile business...

So far, I have not seen how is it business/enthusiast oriented at all and this what disappoints me most.

Am I the only one who does not need/want to spend my entire time on facebook or other online service? It's not even a question of privacy which is getting out of control with such integration this is just a big upsetting step into turning even larger part of population into addicted geeks. Ok, I agree it is good to include what some customers want to see in the product, but to see the whole OS being build around web services (thats what it looks like) is just upsetting (IMO).

No interface customization support? No multitasking?

Very very mixed feelings so far...

this is going to be a good year for microsoft! although it seems like what others have said... microsoft copying apple (ie changing a ipod into the iphone) i think this would be a really great attempt by microsoft in upgrading their dated mobile OS. can't wait to see how they'll make this OS useable for both work and play. so far, its all about play =]

While I like the Zune, having a phone based on the limitations of the Zune isn't very smart. It's an iPhone all over again.

Always liked the zune because of the UI and the way they handled, and since MS were finally smart enough to bring it to their phones, then i'll end up buying one...

I also feel the ZUNE brand has grown enough for them to maybe bring it to europe...I know people who love them, but just don't have one because of importing is awkward...

it look cool but this definately a step of failure!

People need customize to own suite. More freedom!

Don't follow Apple, change from Zune to Mobile (iPod touch to iPhone)!!!

Noman, 15 Feb 2010Chill out about the no flash support! iPhone browser doe... moreDude you don't get it, it's not only about the you tube. It's about accessing the Internet with full flash support exactly like your laptop. Do you know how much fun is it to see everything with you mobile. The X2 and the Nokia n900 have it by standard. Just try browsing the net with them and see the difference.

Of Course, others can download different browsers that could support full flash. Regarding apple, It's not about fail or not? It's about some users are more advanced and want to have more freedom with what they do.

For me, I never considered buying an iphone and many others share with me this point of view because how apple control their customers. It's true that they have a lot of followers however, there are a lot of people who are against how they control things.

WM used to be an open source and used to be customisable, and one of a sudden its turns like apple! This is fail for me, because you should be creative you should respect your fans! But the problem with wm is that they totally changed the game here. They didn't change a thing or 2, instead they became apple2.

Sorry for my long message its just that, WM has made a big mistake here. And with new OS like Android and the new symbian I really don't wish success for WM.

At Least apple did this from the beginning and were clear with their methods, unlike WM who are jumping and playing and can't be straight forward. Too bad really.

                                        Cheers!
