Microsoft announces the all new Windows Phone 7 Series platform

15 February, 2010
Well, the wait is over. Microsoft finally let the cat out of the bag and Windows Mobile 7 (or Windows Phone 7 Series) as MS calls it, is now official. The first phones should start selling by this year’s holiday season...

Windows Phone 7 (hitherto referred to by everyone as Windows Mobile 7) is finally out.
I feel its a piece of art. Seriously.... I think if eye candy is what everybody is moving towards than Zune is superb and its great to hear that MS has incorporated Zune and its style in Phone7.
But iPhone has an effect here too. Its unfortunate that MS saw the success of iPhone but not the brilliance of Maemo or Android for that matter and why people love them. I always felt that Android wants to replicate Windows Mobile's success in terms of third party apps and they actually did a great job by making Android open source. Followed by Symbian, Maemo (or what now is Meego) as open source, it was expected of MS to make WinMo 7 / WinPho 7 to be more inclusive of the excellent developer community that it enjoys. But they took a backward step and have got right at the back of the touchscreen race. Now they have to develop Marketplace from scratch and this is going to be a problem. iPhone OS, Android OS, Symbian OS, Maemo are all ahead of Windows now. WTF!!!!

    Fail...
...there is nothing behind the phrase "imagine your ideal phone". They are just empty words.
All I saw in the presentation were blue sqares, some nice nature pictures and few (key)words.

I did not see anything about the features users are so eager to get.
If MS expect that they can pretend to upgrade a deprecated platform only to try boosting their other products (i.e. Bing or Zune) they might have some nasty surprises from the customers.

cant wait to see how this goes ...ofc, in the meantime buy an iPhone :)

    (I'm rly sad actually)

I love Windows, but only on my PC. Windows Mobile is a piece of crap. You can beautify the OS as much as you want, even if it was a 4D widgetsystem that makes the phone wanna fly by remote controll, it still doesn't change the fact the Windows Mobile has horrible integration with audio and video hardware.

Chill out about the no flash support!

iPhone browser doesn't have flash support so iPhone must be a FAIL right? Oh it isnt?

All you need is a Youtube player like in the iPhone and your pretty much sorted. Plus, I can tell you now there will be unofficial apps which will enable flash on WP7.

What I'm worried about is no multi-tasking. Microsoft said to PCMAG 'you can play music in background', well duh we could do that 10 years ago! We want apps in background...

Why don't the headings stay still.

In the U Tube vid The word people scrolls at a different rate to the rest of the screen so you get

          1st screen - People
          2nd Screen - eople
          3rd Screen - ople

I hope that's not what it will look like after release, looks cheap, buggy and unfinished

Most people are very positive about it, check out engadget_com! And so am I... this is just going to be great. What I do see and now I can officialy say:

Most WM users ARE not happy with this. On all the big Windows Mobile site's I see more negative then positive. But hey, MicroSoft is going to another group of people with this. They will make more money with this. WP7S is not just for business, like it was till now. This is for everybody!

Now I just need to know some more things, like:

            -how do notifications work?
            -multitasking in general?
            -more info about the appstore
-Freedom in general? Only the stock browser (which is suposed to be very good) or also Opera, skyfire, firefox? How much can I customize the interface?

Give the people a lot of choice microsoft, and they will be happy.

And why did no one ask if the HD2 is getting WM7? They had 3 questions omg... I started yelling at my computer 'you stupid idiots, ASK ABOUT THE HD2!!' haha.

A great day it has been! Go MS!

Microsoft here seems to be acknowledging Apples simple UI approach which could lead to reduced functionality.I guess if HTC can almost make Windows seem sleek and efficient[sense] than Microsoft might as well try.I think that all of the mobile manufacturers are introducing UI`s or "skins" to make there phones fun and vibrant with the ability to keep connected for social butterflies.Microsoft is trying to move away from its [i`m all business ] reputation and into a more consumer oriented phone. The next year should see some interesting developments on the platform front.

I am extremely disappointed with the new wm7 os. Dudes I used to love wm and I used to be a huge fan of it. You can't imagine how badly they hurt me by turning into losers like the iphone! This is the American greed! This is how they want to get control on everything. Very bad move Microsoft. Although, I'm sure you will have new fans but I promise you that you will lose your true fans! So go ahead and turn into apple! It seems that's the best you can do.

Dudes, the future is for the Symbian^3, it's very gorgeous and it's an open source, it seems very promising and it already support 4G networks. Go and check the videos and believe me you will understand what I really mean. I'm sorry to say that but bye bye wm and welcome symbian!

Imagine folks we can no longer enjoy the xperia panels or the htc sence, because of this unstudied move from wm. Don't forget with the new operating system you can't even customise it.

It's like we are robots and we must follow whatever they choose for us. No offence, but screw the American way! I am a free guy :D

                  Good luck,

Some may think that the UI looks modern but to me, it looks more like a copy cat of other mobile OS. Yes, the good old windows start button may be questionable in usability but it relects the windows soul, the windows feel, and here the so called improved winmo 7? crap
Another big thing is the restriction applied, especially the restriction of custom UI such as sense, touch flo, touchwiz, xperia panels and the apple style app store monopoly simply make me wanna turn my head away ftom this my once long awaited but deeplu disappointed winmo 7

Unfortunately, it seems that the business/corporate user has been forgotten with WM7. The demo has no mention of integration to Exchange (calendar, email, etc.) or Mobile Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Now the welcomed computing BlueScreen feature has been ported to the mobile phones, so the users now enjoy a new world of frustration and anguish ! But don't worry, you're going to upgrade the phone to a newer processor and more memory after less than 6 months ! Enjoy !

Finally, a few days ago Adobe confirmed that there will be no Flash support on Windows Phone 7. There is still no explanation on that decision, but we hope Microsoft will explain that soon.

Honestly Gsmarena do you call this improvement? Do you know how much disappointing it will be if this is true? Windows 7 without flash support? I mean what the hell were they thinking. I prefer sticking with a wm 6.5 or a new Android version if wm 7 will have no flash support!

What is this? I hate the iphone because it's lack of flash support and now wm7 is doing the same thing? I love windows mobile but if this is the case I think it's a huge drawback.

say hello to symbian^3/android.. i have no need for a castrated phone os, I'd rather go proprietary

So its true... Another iphone os.
For now on, there is no real future os with full customisation and real open system. I can bet that, like other iphone/android os, it cant send data over bluetooth it dont have real multitasking, you can install app only from appstore, you can use only specific file for ringtone/wallpaper etc.
Where is real windows mobile? Where is REAL open os?

The waring state period of Smartphone OS has arrived.
We will see Nokia armed with Meego / Symbian
Battle head on with Apple's Iphone OS
then with M$ win Mo aiming for counter attacks for lost grounds
while Google's Android continue to battle uphill to be recon as a force follow by some dark horse wannabe Bada from Samsung..

This device is real and so is 7 Series. Check out this video for it:

Don't know who makes it yet. But is not vaporware. Transitions are real, visuals are real. This is good competition.
