Sgho, 23 Feb 2010hi everyone,in first place i think as endusers we all benef... moreMy observation is (based on where I live), the almighty brand was able to capture such market share due to:

      - x years ago it subsidized many network operators with $0 handsets to lure customers to get used to their phones

      - it provides extra "incentive/commission" to the frontline sales, who help to "promote" the almighty brand's products over other competitors

      - it "claims" it has the largest share of the smartphone market by putting the so called "smart OS" into almost every phones (except 1 or 2 series), yet in reality most Symbian users I know only make / receive calls / SMS...while "not" utilizing the so called "smart" functions

I always wonder why people always say the almighty brand offers good voice quality when I often have difficulty hearing my friend's N97 in noisy environment, while my other friend's Moto U9 offers much much better voice quality but people seldom talk about it.

apple and rim, impressive...but it's too much the luxury market. can't see you ever threatening number 1. UNLESS apple release a brilliant iPhone nano which is way cheaper and still a great phone. that could change everything...

I bought my first Iphone at Xmas and I love it to death BUT out the box it is rubbish compared to my old Nokia N95 8Gb.

You take a lot of the standard things for granted with Nokia like
                  Call reception ;-)
Photos & photo gallery (Iphone is rubbish)

The Iphone is all about the apps and I now have about 60 installed most can be accessed via an internet browser ie Ebay, facebook but the Iphone interface is great.

If Nokia sort out the apps they would blow the Iphone away but I can't see it happening.

That does not show that which one is more effective. iPhone is for ordinary people who hardly know the difference between their phones and their pets.

hi everyone,in first place i think as endusers we all benefit from the competition between all mobile manufactorers to make better mobile devices and Oss with better prices because they need to gain our trust and satisfy our needs to take the money out of our pockets!
i think according to the offecial results the reason wich keeps nokia on top is they make good phones in first place in terms of most people refer to as a good phone.simplicty of symbian os wich is able of handeling most of a upper midrange user tasks and also the good costumer support that nokia gives (like free lifetime navigation and constant updates they release) and also reliability of calls (wich is the basic and most important function of a mobile phone) gives them advantage over the other companies. i also think the other reason for their sucess is they are a technology reasercher and inventor/developer! they have invented and licensed alot of technologies wich we see on different brands and they have now own a good os like Meego wich i think has a good future.samsung and lg are gainig on top because they have advantage in making display/ram/cpu for themselves and other brands devices.for example a good populare phone like iphone uses samsung cpu and ram.i think iphone has advantage on os and it has a good but going to be outdated design and it also offers a good user experience but if they are not going to do something about competittores like snapdragon cpu they soon going to loose their hype and market share.i think winmo is a good os in terms of someone who does not need good graphics and entertainment but only considers business and if microsoft does not make a progress in entertainment field they are going to loose enduser's interest. i think htc shoulde consider developing an os other than user interface sence UI.
afterall i think this new year we are going to see alot from different brands and competition is going to be more interesting for us to watch and enjoy

Why are people proud of Nokia :S This was always expected as they have had the market share since the dawn of phones. And remember Symbian in the smart phone category it's an unfair comparison. Nokia's results include phone such as the 6500, as they run on S60, which is a smart phone. If you compared high end touch phones etc. iPhone OS would be clearly ahead followed by more WM then Android. The scary thing for Nokia is the decline in their own sales year to year, with the increase of Samsung and LG year to year (who have similar philosophies) and the domination of the high end by Apple. I think because Apple only targets one market they will never be a true to threat to Nokia's overall market share, but I think Samsung might just catch them in the next 5 years.

"Look, the launch of the N97 was a disaster. Nobody is denying that, and luckily Nokia knows this as well.

As for the N97 in it's current incarnation with the latest firmware 2.1 and/or the N97Mini - it is ACTUALLY quite a DECENT device!

I'd much rather stick with my N97 than buy a HTC Hero, or iPhone 3G, for approx. the same price for numerous reasons, among those are:

                            - 32 GB storage, which is freakin' genius.
                            - FM Transmitter - use that a LOT, when driving back and forth to work.
                            - Free Navigation (which I use occasionally)
                            - Browser is perhaps a little slow or clumiser compared to iPhone, BUT VASTLY better in terms things it does.
                            - AND I also installed SkyFire browser, which is even more amazing, since it support both Flash AND Silverlight, meaning that I can net-radios and stuff from PC sites. Give me ONE Android or Apple device that can do that? Guess not, huh?
                            - Screen is bigger and has better resolution.
                            - Podcasting fucking rocks on the N97. Work flawlessly.
                            - Gravity is propably the best Twitter app there is, period.
                            - The camera is freakin' AEONS ahead of ANYTHING HTC or Apple, fact (so cut the crap..).
                            - The C: drive space issue on the N97-classic is a non-issue, once you figure it out that the E: drive is the way to go. Otherwise go for the N97Mini, and everything is fine.

Actually the ONLY thing that I miss from time to time is more RAM and a slightly faster CPU (most prominent when it comes to games), which is EXACTLY what will be addressed in the coming devices from Nokia et.al.. Symbian Foundation's minimum reference platform is actually a Cortex A8 CPU with OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics based piece of hardware....so, again...cut the crap."

Sym^3 are the new warcry and Meego comes after that.Q3 2010 into 2011 should be exciting times. Not a WinMo fan but I welcome WinPho 7.We need more choices.Let's see what's gonna happen with Samsung's Bada. And Google might have aces after N1 and we'll be seeing more affordable Android phones from other manufacturers.RIM can and should learn fast from SE Aspen,Palm Pixi Plus and the rumored HTC Trophy phys designs for their messenger phones. They should do something about Storm 2's follow-up.

The iPhone is a serious of phones, so when your beloved Apple releases another iPhone this year, is that still going to be a single phone, no but a new part of the series.

FYI, the meaning of series: similar things placed in order or happening one after another

Apple will remain a market follower and will never become a market leader.

The iPhone is a single phone, and can't thus be compared to a bunch of (single) phones. The E Series is a series, as its name implies. So I repeat, the iPhone is the most popular smartphone right now. I am not talking about cell phone brands, series or operating systems. Just the phone itself, the very same that ignorants like would like to see "killed". So stick to your voice enabled pager, and be polite.
