Boo Hoo ,all the little babies "wheres my symbian mama" Just because you are poor and dont live in a rich country. If you want to read about Nookia go to a "cellphone market percentage survey" and rejoice.I have an interest in data about market share for high end "smartphones" in the Western world.

Lots Of Interesting Comment.
This survey is very confusing. Seems totally fake or Advertisement for APPLE. But try to understand it.
I think survey is talking about the internet TRAFFIC of "applications download".
Please pay attention. This survey tells about the internet TRAFFIC of "applications download". Read the full report below. After reading that you can understand the News and the Things it actually wants to show.

OOOOOHH a lot af hatred here....
Try READING the underlying report. It's actually quite interesting.
If you look in the later part you will see HUGE regional differences.
In India, Indonesia and Philippines, you can see that Nokia has something close to a monopoly on smartphones generating traffic. And Apple is close to non-existing. In the UK on the contrary Apple is HUGE in generating traffic.
Also note the explosion of smartphone trafic during 2009 (see p7). a factor of around 3 in several regions.

GSMArena i request you to not Present anything like this again in future. This type of survey are going to just harm your image only. This looks like advertisement for Apple.
How can anyone say that " Almost half of the Internet data traffic is generated by smartphones and 50% of that comes from Apples products."
Ok.Almost half of the Internet data traffic is generated by smartphones but 50% of that comes from Apples products???? Really or its a JOKE???????
Can users going to believe that????
This is just unbelievable that, "Android and Symbian generate about 20% of the traffic each and Windows Mobile is at the lowly 2%."
Do the GSMArena want to say that last news about "2009 world handset sales ranked" is fake!!!! Symbian & Nokia market share was highest in that survey. Then How can Almost half of the Internet data traffic is generated comes from Apples products????
Ok. Survey is not from GSMArena team but GSMArena can at least read it before posting.

I can't believe all this hating!! This chart only shows the reallity of the american market. And it's sad... Most of ihpone/ipod users are teens... and they pay for their apps! So apple is doing it for the money, who can blame them?

Another ridiculous apple-oriented survey. Most smartphones (see android & symbian) aren't even identified anymore as "phones" but as fully fledged computers.
iPhone needs custom pages because it has the smallest screen resolution so it is always identified as a toy-phone :))

Once again a poor survey with an aim to market iPhone!
How many times it is to be said that one cannot rely on a survey based only on North America/English speaking countries results.
GSMARENA - please don't pull down your quality and objectiveness.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2010problems with this: 1) iphone is NOT a smartphone. it is j... moreactually iPhone is a smartphone, because smartphone is a phone which allows installing apps. That's why phones like samsung jet and lg arena are not smartphones. so iPhone is a smartphone, albeit a crappy one.

This analytical part of GSMArena is really good for students of Informatics and the general public alike. Perhaps you could include a category for mobile education and make a repository of these links in that?
Just an idea.

this report clearly gives us that apple is just for children who don't know anything about os and just belive the phone they have is best around the world because they have never tried any other os like android nd symbian which really are best os in compariosn to childish and amateaur iphone os which is really expensive and are of no use ....

This is actually very misleading..
The reason for ex Nokia, Samsung and Windows phones are not on the Applist is because most of the apps that Apple and Android users have to buy is already included in the software OS of Symbian, Windows and TouchWiz.
For example, iPhone is like buying a car without wheels, steeringm handbreak and seats etc, while when you buy a Nokia, Windows or Samsung TouchWiz you get all those stuff when you buy it.
Everthing from Office software, to maps and social network apps are already included in other devices, whereas as with iPhone you have to buy them just so Steve Jobs can screw you on top of all the money you already pay for the phone.

This only represents usage of websites made for mobile phones only(mostly Apple or other phones that do not support Flash and therefore requires more simple webpages). For example if you using a Nokia smartphone you will browse on "normal" websites NOT mobile websites. A much more accurate way to measure traffic would be to look what phones are used for normal browsing instead.

problems with this:
1) iphone is NOT a smartphone. it is just a regular phone that apple advertises as a smartphone. just like they advertise the ipad as revolutionary and magical.
2) the people surveyed are most likely american and they dont have phones as good as european or asian phones, so the comparison is unfair. also plans for iphone cud b cheaper than competitors in america.
3) why is ipod touch included? it runs iphone os but does that also mean it was included in the other graphs where it just says apple products?
4) it shows traffic/request by os. some oses prefer to remain connected and have fewer settings to adjust data received and outgoing (or some ppl dont know how to adjust these settings). a survey shud hv been done asking ppl how often they actually browse and their browsing experience (keeping in mind iphone os lacks flash support). also speed shud b tested. one browser cud keep loading and refreshing a page for longer causing more traffic. if u turn on wifi on ipod touch, it automatically refreshes the pages in the safari browser for example.
5) it does not show units for each os sold and percentage growth of units being sold.
6) what gamma said.
