Apple developing an in-house GPU

10 December, 2015
Apple maybe working on a proprietary GPU design, which should replace the PowerVR units inside its chips.

Dude. What you meant was the metal API which was inside the cpu. And note that is not a gpu. Which is a very reason why they use powervr as the gpu.

GPU is graphics and CPU is processing. Whats so funny?

Of course it was the GPU inside the A9, SMH.

No they won't develop anything, what they'll do is reverse engineer another already established chip and then rebrand it and patent it.

Then a few years down the line they'll sue the original company for copying them.

So Samsung did use older hardware too, i thought Apple haters say that only Apple did that.

Anonymous, 11 Dec 2015Guaranteed to perform on par with other GPUs, but 100x more expensive. On Par?
the current one on the A9 is the best mobile GPU on the market right now, the current best on Exynos/Snapdragon aren't even near.
and maybe even the next gen GPU on SD820 / Next Exynos aren't better.

flamencoguy, 10 Dec 2015Their basic CPU design is from ARM Holdings like most of the mob... moreCompanies can license just the instruction set and use it to build their own chips with their own designs.

Many other companies who licences arm, licenses the reference design and use it to build the cpu.

On a side note: Intel too has license to use arm

All this absurd hate.

Some here don't understand what the Apple CPUs are and how they relate to ARM (this is directed to the buffoon that said that Apple is using "ARM's design" - you don't really understand what makes a processor, do you?).

Some here think that the only benefit of 64-bit CPUs is more RAM availability.

It really is amusing how all the haters are really wannabe programmers that turn out to know absolutely nothing of computer architecture. Although, I will admit, computer architecture is more relevant to the engineer rather than the programmer.

Probably it follows the powervr design with some modifications to achieve better power efficiency
