T... moreA8 is 20nm and A7 is 28nm, storage speed almost improved, as a reference, iPhone 6's read speed is on par with S6. 6s is double that of the S6. Improved camera module. Brighter display with higher contrast. Etc. iPhone 6 is a true successor. Check the antutu score difference.

You still don't understand how other components affect performance. Look at antutu benchmark of 5s and 6, there is a drastic improvement. Did you know iPhone 6's storage read speed is on par with s6, and 6s' read is almost twice that of the s6. And the camera module in the 6 is bigger and improved over 5s. Other component are improved too. Both 6 and 6s are true successors

But there is also a licences that gives you the rights to develop your own custom design.
Apples Cyclone/Twister, nVidias Denver and Qualcomms Krait are all custom design CPUs (cores), not based on ARMs reference designs.

And Apple without a doubt took the other manufactures by surprise and forced them to speed up development.

Apple used the 64-bit for marketing. There is no advantage to a 64-bit architecture except wider buses to read 4 GB ram or higher.
Nothing would have changed had Apple stayed with 32-bit.

And offscreen benchmarks of S6 was better than iPhone 6.
6s was better than S6.
S7 will be better than 6s :D
It goes and goes...
They release at difference of 5-6 months :D

It does not become slow but hangs for few seconds :(
